Re: App -12 vs ECU
The left tackle position performance is going to determine how our fans feel about Chase Brice. I’ve been shitting on the O-line since early last season and I feel bad about it but I’m still nervous about depth and coaching at that position.
It boggles my mind that the number one source of my optimism about our offense aside from the obvious skill position talent is the fact that Illinois bailed us out by hiring Tony Peterson and clearing a spot for Ponce. Talk about serendipity. As long as the line is healthy the sky is the limit. I think we’re NY6 quality with healthy OL1s. Disappointment if we have to shuffle them around all year.
If we make history and go all the way to NY6 we should all buy Illinois T-shirts.

I’ve got a PFF subscription, the App o-line graded out significantly better with Hardy than Garrison. Garrison was assigned a significant amount of sacks last year. I had the NY6 hopes as well, my optimism is quickly waning after learning about guys already missing camp for Covid issues. And what’s worse they’re on Twitter bitching about it.Gonzo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 5:23 pmThe left tackle position performance is going to determine how our fans feel about Chase Brice. There are going to be covid issues this whole season even if vaccinated. Keep your chin up, better to have them in August.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
Here is another question related to our performance against ECU. How big of a win/margin do we need against ECU to vault us into top 25?
4-5 TDs
56-21
49-14
????

We’re 31st in coaches poll. Can’t make it all up in the first week, but we can dig a huge hole. Just win and move on to Miami.

And it’s the two players you would expect it to be based on their Twitter history.beav910 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 7:07 pmJesus Christ that sucks to hearYosef10 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 5:41 pmI’ve got a PFF subscription, the App o-line graded out significantly better with Hardy than Garrison. QB1 needs to be there too though. Looks like he may already be sitting out with contact tracingGonzo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 5:23 pmThe left tackle position performance is going to determine how our fans feel about Chase Brice. Re: App -12 vs ECU
I beg to differ that it can’t be done. Our big question mark is our QB. If Chase starts and comes out of the gate on fire and leads a public thrashing of ECU on ESPNU that may be all that’s needed to show we have a gunslinger at the helm and put App back in the national spotlight again.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
It’s still just ECU. Beating what voters perceive as a bottom half G5 team by 30 isn’t going to catapult anyone into the top 25 in week one.
For the record I think Houston is a great coach and week one is a tough one, I fully understand expect this one to be within the current spread hopefully in our favor.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
When has App St ever been known as a "gun-slinging" school other than the mascot...and political incorrectness got his taken away..
We have had some great QBs, however, have we ever had one to throw for like 3,000 yards om a consistent basis. .AE once... gun-slinging schools are throwing it around 4,000 plus yatds a season.
I hope Brice is all that and a box of chocolates, however I do not see us changing our identity to where sports writers and fans call us a gun-slinging school. I hope he completes at least 70% of his passes (with very few of those to the opposition) and is more accurate in giving us opportunities due to his arm strength than what we had in the past.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
I don't know if we win but imo the line is high. should be a TD max. We were a bit Jeckyl/Hyde last year bu6t did play better later in the season. The Georgia St game our OL was all out of sorts. We were 3- but literally had Tulsa beaten 3 times on the final drive.
Additionally we lost to Navy, but our QB was out due to a false positive Covid test, nail biter game and we only threw for 104 yards, a low for as long as I can remember.
So it can easily be argued we were closer to a 5-4 team than 3-6. We improved down the stretch and beat a very good SMU team to close the year. We have enough skill on O to move the ball consistently imo. Turnovers are the key for us, Holton has often turned it over in critical moments.

Can't wait for the game. Lots to see about both teams.

Wish that could be controlled, but that's immaturity from that age group.

Hardy was way better than Garrison and shocked me that Garrison made All-SBC because he was hurt and you could tell it. He gave up a lot of sacks.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 5:41 pmI’ve got a PFF subscription, the App o-line graded out significantly better with Hardy than Garrison. I can understand why our players are upset. AHC may be our toughest opponent this year.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
It should me noted that Garrison played most of last year with a bad back, which ultimately led to him sitting out the last few games.

Re: App -12 vs ECU
I don't see it happening unless we win say 40-0. The Miami game is the game that voters will likely wait on before we see a ton of voters put us in their ballot. If we go 2-0 then we will definitely be ranked but that still won't matter unless we get a lot of revenge this year after Miami.

Yes I mentioned he was hurt but regardless he struggled and gave up a lot of sacks so I was still surprised he got any postseason honors.

ECU HASN'T been good. Our ex AD, chancellor and HFC nuked our program from 2015-2019. I think we'll make a bowl this year. Expect a dogfight on the 2nd.

Houston is a good coach and if it ECU is within 7 after 3 they could pull it out.
