The only issue with this is that it will be 2034 before we get everyone from the west in Boone once.Zeke.Midas007 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 7:14 amEAST

Re: New Conference Schedules
If you really want to play teams from the other division in years you normally wouldn’t do what the ACC has done with UNC and Wake. Schedule App-UL as an OOC game. It’s not a hard concept.

Re: New Conference Schedules
Although I would enjoy having the Cajuns be an annual cross over rivalry, I think having 2 different west teams each year is the best route so the players have the opportunity to face every program in the SBC during their playing career here. From a recruiting standpoint, the coaches would probably prefer having Troy or USA as the cross over rivalry since App recruits the state of AL. If the SBC goes to the cross over rivalry format and App ends up with UL or stAte, I think DG would need to work out a SBC non-conference match-up with Troy/USA every couple of years to keep the presence in AL. Losing Troy from the east is probably this biggest downside to realignment as it pertains to recruiting. Coaches were able to guarantee AL players at least a couple of visits to their state throughout their tenure here at App.

Re: New Conference Schedules
As long as App and Louisiana are consistently appearing in the championship game, there is no reason to try to lock them in as cross division rivals. Frankly, it just complicates things playing the same team twice in a year. Once Arkansas State gets back up to speed and assuming Troy and USA continue to complete for the West, we should have plenty of good inter-divisional games. Personally, I don't see a reason to lock one of them in. I do like playing UL and have tons of respect for them, but I'd rather save the matchup for the CCG.

Re: New Conference Schedules
Not sure. They did it because those schools are in different divisions but geographically so close. In this case it would be choosing to protect a cross division rivalry.

Re: New Conference Schedules
I figured that they did it for proximity. Not sure if it makes sense for us to do it with a western foe.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 4:19 pmNot sure. Proximity and the long tradition of WFU and UNC playing every year. I don't know how they'll continue.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 5:04 pmI figured that they did it for proximity. Re: New Conference Schedules
I get what you're saying. I'm not saying it's absolutely something we SHOULD do given limited OOC scheduling options every year, but you know that saying "familiarity breeds contempt". App and UL have both been major players in raising the Sun Belt's profile. Our head to head match-ups pit top teams from each division against each other. It'd be a shame (competitively) and for the strength of the conference to not play but 2/12 years.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 5:04 pmI figured that they did it for proximity. Re: New Conference Schedules
I’m not against it. My only issue is would we travel that far to see App play an OOC that is a conference foe.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 5:56 pmI get what you're saying. Re: New Conference Schedules
I have said it before and I will say it again....this is in our best interest. Play ooc then play division play. Instead of a championship game line up 1 east vs 1 west, 2 east vs 2 west and on down. Each team will get 8 conference games. rotate yearly if it is home vs away or better yet meet at a neutral site for a day of football. Three games in one day at the Georgia Dome and three games in one day at the Superdome (New Orleans) 7:00 game 1 vs 1 and 7:00 game 2 vs 2.
It allows more time for OOC and it increases schedule and it should make the most teams Bowl Eligible. It may be in the best interest of the conference to have 3 play 7 and 4 play 6 and 5 play 5 to get the most teams bowl eligible.

Re: New Conference Schedules
Use the previous year’s final standings to divide each division into top 3 and bottom 4. You play 1 team in each category. That way we would avoid playing two clunkers from the other division.

Re: New Conference Schedules
I think today's game of UNC/Wake is one of the non-conference games scheduled. I could be wrong but I think it was 2019 and 2021.
