Since I’m not putting money on it, I say we win out.
Let's not go crazy with a risky decision here. Rein it in a bit is my advice.
I guess I got a little carried away. If we win our, I’ll point to my prediction. If not, nobody will remember.

I know a win is a win, but my biggest fear is we finish 8-4 or 9-3 thanks in large part to our offensive production (Out scoring teams in a shoot out), and the defensive problem is ignored next off-season. Not saying I wish we'd tank to see some changes, but I could see how a 8-4 or 9-3 record keeps Dale Jones off the hot seat.

I think he is safe because of the family unless we are giving up 40+ every single game and we don't make it to a bowl game.

I don’t know why folks assume that if we come out Wed and handle GaSt everything is hunky dory. That will be 1 out of 6 but that is far from a reliable metric that we have solved our problems. With all the extreme inconsistency I have seen in the first half of the season, I have a serious trust problem with this team and coaching staff this year. Sorry but burnt as many times as we have been this year and I just need a lot more proof that we have our heads on straight.

I don’t think a win means everything is back on track. As you said, it’s just one game. If we lose to GSU then the problems are still there but a convincing win would be a step in the right direction. I’m cautious with this team for sure. I’m going to predict we win and cover the spread but even if we do I am still not sold to where I will be confident until I see how we do against CCU and Marshall.

My mid-season prediction? Pain. We win out, convincingly at first but have to squeak it out in the end against Southern.

In the other prediction thread....I see Mike87 making an amazing comeback after starting the season in last place to finish in the top 10.

App State's OL is beat up, Harrington is gone for the season, breaking in a new secondary who sometimes shows up in the right spots and angles but most of the time they are out of place. Have a coaching staff who under estimated JMU's front 7, then goes to Texas State without your best RB and shows up with no focus and got mauled. The script has been partially written for this team. Georgia State is going to bring it Wednesday night. They seem to know what they are doing in their secondary. ODU will smash this App State team if the front seven bites on their counters and eye candy and based on how App has been out of place this will be a beat down. Coastal will not be an easy out, and Marshall well we all know how that one could go. As far as Georgia Southern at their place. If they do not figure out how to play man to man coverage and the DL does not figure out how to play like they did at College Station, Georgia Southern will put 800 yards on that zone that Dale Jones likes to hide in. Guys I hate to say it this may be the worst season App State has seen in a while. I so want to be wrong but they are what they are. 6-6 and no bowl. Maybe by a miracle they get a bowl because of the way the fans travel and a good graduation rate. But that may be a challenge.

8-4 preseason (L''s to UNC, A&M, Marshall, Coastal)
7-5 now. (L's to UNC, JMU, TX St, Coastal, Southern) not what I expected lol.

Please get bowl eligible and not against an air raid offense if we do.

A lot of heads better roll if we go 6-6. Could you imagine us not getting in a bowl game? I believe we go 7-5 or 8-4 though. I just can't see this team falling apart completely but I would be shocked if we make it 9-3. If Shawn turns it around and did that then I think we would win the SBC title. If we lose to GSU on Wednesday we then the only thing we can play for is a bowl win.

It is crazy how we had many on here debating us being highest ranked and NY6 possibility but now many on here are worried about even going to a bowl game. I wish the polls would not start until the last week of October and media members would stop with bowl projections so early. It is like someone posting a 2024 Mock Draft this week. That stuff is a huge waste of time so early.
I’m with ya. It’s crazy to even see the 6-6 being discussed and there’s still folks who won’t acknowledge serious changes needed to be made because this team is far too talented for that. The possibility of it alone is an indictment. Satt revoked a certain coordinator’s responsibilities when he was underperforming years ago, and that same coach hasn’t had that accountability under current leadership.

I believe we can rebound but the fact it is even being considered as a real chance to happen is bad. I have wondered what it could be from blame on players, coaches, both of them, or what it could be.

When it comes to the portal it has helped us some but I wonder if it has hurt with culture? When a player comes in out of high school they are taught the App Way, work hard to earn spot, and playing with toughness and grit but many players come in and start from day one so they don't have to earn their stripes the same way. They perhaps don't have the same chip on their shoulder that players we had before brought in because they were snubbed by P5 schools. Has it possibly hurt us? I don't know but it is something I have wondered.
I don't really understand what you guys want - No heads are going to roll at 6-6 because we will finish much better than that - Portal --- it is here, either you ignore it or you work with it - What do you want??? - no, a portal guy isn't coming out of high school so he can't be taught the Culture What do you want? - You don't think we would be a better team without Chase? He is the leader and he is a portal guy - Again, what do you guys want?
All they want is for you to hear what they have to say and agree with them, the problem is they just want to be miserable pulling for the mountaineers. When we win every game of the season and win every game in the FBS Playoffs and are crowned National Champions, those same people will say, "Yeah that was great, but what about next season? I doubt we win a single game."
Ha what a silly comment. Excellent work hyperbolizing legitimate concerns. I’d just take not blowing a 28-3 lead and losing to a terrible TXST team, not a natty. But lord knows we’re looking forward to many more blunders in the SC error era!

Getting bowl eligible for me is more about getting the additional practices, we need as many reps as possible going into next year.

Not sure how I feel about being 3-3 with 70% of our starters being seniors. The JMU (4 score lead) and Tx State losses should never happen with near 100% of our starters being upperclassmen. All the extra COVID years of eligibility have taken a toll on developing our younger guys it seems. COVID, the free portal and now NIL make for a tough consistent roster layout. Glad we have winning tradition, just hope we can sustain it!

According to our own depth chart our starting OL (and other position listed on your post) all have (at least) a year remaining. Doesn't mean they all come back but your source has them listed incorrectly, or appstatesports.com does.

This is NOT a unique problem for App as every other school in FBS has had to deal with every one of those issues. We have to stop using that as an excuse. That is like saying we only have 85 scholarships to give so that is why we don't have enough depth. It's all about managing the process to get the optimal outcome.
