APP STATE Hockey
I know this is not football but thought it would catch the most eyes. Does anyone know if we are still playing at Liberty on FEB 25 & 26. I would like to go see them play.

Re: APP STATE Hockey
That is my guess. I know they have a DIV1 team, not sure about team 2, and I believe team 3 is club. All assumptions except team 1. Never have seen us play so I am going to go over and watch. I have been to their arena and it is first class. Our minor league team played there for a playoff game a few years ago when our home rink at the civic center was booked.

Re: APP STATE Hockey
Is this a club team or NCAA sponsored team. Where do we practice and play home games?

Club team... I think they practice in W-S... not sure about that... They do have a game again UNCC this Saturday night (Feb. 11) at 10:15pm here in the Charlotte area (Extreme Ice, Indian Trail). I'll probably go check them out since it's only 5 minutes from me.

W-S Annex has nice banners for some of the schools in the ACCHL such as JMU and ECU, but I am not sure of the complete school list. The ACCHL website is not the easiest to jump around and glean info.festus105 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:58 pmClub team... I think they practice in W-S... not sure about that... Liberty’s D1 team is club as well.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 12:15 pmThat is my guess. I know they have a DIV1 team, not sure about team 2, and I believe team 3 is club. D1 club hockey, at the top, is as good or better than D3 NCAA hockey.
D2 and D3 club hockey are largely interchangeable in terms of talent, usually clubs are D2 or D3 solely based on their geography of clubs around them.
But Liberty is a top tier program. It all starts with a rink on campus. Arizona State had an elite D1 club team then got enough financial support to move to D1 NCAA. Same with Penn State. Club hockey is a bit of an anomaly in collegiate club sports because again, at the top, these are NCAA caliber programs in all but name.
Liberty’s D1 club team would beat is by 20 goals. Their D3 club team is usually quite good too.

Thanks for the info. Kind of confusing how they have 1,2 and 3. I know their goalie coach played in the NHLah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:18 amLiberty’s D1 team is club as well.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 12:15 pmThat is my guess. If they’ve got the interest and talent, it’s a great way to have a “JV” program where they can move guys up.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 5:33 amThanks for the info. This is 15 years ago but I remember chatting with the president of the Liberty D1 club team. They were charging $5-$10 a ticket and selling out the Lahaye Ice Center, and the team was making about $20k a home game. They were funding flights, equipment, coaching salaries, the whole shebang. I’m pretty sure they even paid player stipends because it’s club, not NCAA.
Go take a look at their schedule, they’re in North Dakota, Michigan, Las Vegas.
https://www.liberty.edu/club-sports/men ... /schedule/.
Club hockey rocks but I’m clearly biased.

Would be nice to have one so hockey team could practice locally.
Probably too many kids these days virtually ice skating on their iPad instead of actually ice skating.

Not App State hockey but apparently there’s solid interest for college hockey in North Carolina…

Re: APP STATE Hockey
The game Saturday night was awesome. I wouldn’t want to do it every season (it was a really long day/night), but to do it once was really cool.
My group didn’t experience any of the delays some had. We were in a parking spot in 20 minutes and in the stadium in about 10.
