We have a lot of problems but I think people aren't realizing or truly paying attention to what they were. The only thing I blame Cobb for is the fact he put Satterfield in a job he is not ready for. There was a solid group of ASU people who wanted others and knew Scott was not ready. He looked lost and confused on the sideline and didn't know exactly what to do. Now, the poor play of Jamal, lack of OL and DL, and our bad playcalling at times are not Cobb's fault directly but Cobb picked the wrong man for the job. I'm not saying Scott can't be a good HC one day but he was not ready. He should have pulled Jamal in the second quarter to see Bryant for a couple series and then be able to give him some adjustments at halftime. Instead, Scott waited until the third quarter and by then it was just about too late. The only reason we came back is because I firmly believe Bryant has the potential to be an All-Sun Belt QB. He's going to be really good as long as he puts in the work.
One thing to remember is that the schedule is tougher next year and honestly if Jamal is still hurt I'm at a point where I look at Jamal and say if you care about this team you will accept being the backup to Bryant. Bryant is apparently better and it would help our program long term to go with him right now since he gives us a better chance to win now and next year by playing right now. If Jamal is truly hurt, I wonder if we can look into getting a medical redshirt for him?
Our problems on the OL are a lack of recruiting, toughness, and size.
One question I have and I hate to ask this but is Kareem Young possibly the wrong strength coach? Our team isn't physically progressing like they should and we don't look like we did when Russell Patterson and Jeff Dillman were here.
I don't think the sky is completely falling yet but if we don't look improved and beat Elon and beat CSU then we are in for a tough year in which 5-7 would be our best case and still unlikely. If we are 6-6 then I think some changes must be made in the off-season but if we are 2-10 then Charlie has a tough decision to make. Should he buy out Scott and realize a huge mistake was made or be patient for at least one more year? I really hope that does not happen but if are lose less than 5 games, with a FCS schedule, then I think something major has to be done.
