ODU has the ability to do what ULM and Coastal did to us. We didnt fix the issue after ULM and I doubt we fix it for this game. The only way to tell is to watch the game.... So we shall see.

This season feels a lot like the 2017 season. The specific reasons don't apply but that season started out 5-4. Those 4 losses included a loss to Wake where we should have won but gave it away (off-sides on a punt gave them a first down and the go ahead score...then blocked field goal), an ugly win against a bad Idaho team where we had to come from behind, and 2 ugly losses to very bad ULM and UMass teams. Things clicked and finished 9-4 with a dominating win over a high powered Toledo offense. They had a stud QB getting national attention and they were favored. App won 34-0.

I hope we can click the way that team did. I like what Vick Johnson said on the B&G Podcast this week. He says this team isn't far. Interesting thing is that he said something similar to what Armanti and Richie said on Sunbelt Syndicate last week. The D has talent but the chemistry isn't quite there. AE and Richie talked about player leaders emerging. Both talked about those things being tough because of the transfers (as opposed to guys who have played together for years). That makes sense to me but hopefully those leaders emerge...SOON!

One game at a time. GO APPS!

I don’t think it’s the stripes. I think it’s the glossy “A” logo sticker as opposed to matte. We’ve had stripes. Or it’s the style of helmet manufacturer.

I think it is too much time spent on " outfits " and not enough time spent on what leads to winning games.

It seems lazy to basically say "win the home games and loose the road ones". That said, it kind of points to how important the ODU game is.

The absolute number one goal for every team should be to go unbeaten. Generally speaking only one team can run the table. You might get that fluke of a great G5 who does it and gets shafted in the playoffs but wins the NY6- highly unlikely.

Taking the incredibly unlikely scenario of the table the next goal is to win the conference. For an aspiring G5 power every game is a must win. A strong P5 can lose a game and still reach a playoff.

Side note. It makes no sense that if JMU isn't eligible for a bowl or the conference championship why do losses to them count in conference? Haven't there been transition teams whose record showed as 0-0 in conference during their transition?

Listened to the BGP this week and the description of their offense will give me nightmares the next two nights. They struggle with the short passes, but are second in the nation in number of passes > 15 yards. They spread the defense out and shifts plays easily based upon defensive formation. Two weeks to prepare. Skip to the last 20 minutes of the pod if you only want to hear the interaction between them and the ODU podcaster who is well spoken and knowledgable. Love and appreciate what C and AJ do, but unsure why a 60-90 minute podcast turns into a 2.5 hour one.

Our dline must get pressure as that appears to be their weakness. We've had 11 days to prepare, please don't start slow again.

ODU is averaging about 350 YPG and barely 50% in pass completion. If they chunk it long they don't appear to complete a lot. We need to dial up pressure as you know they have watched film of our often confused secondary.

I think they complete quite a bit of their long passes (second most in the nation according to their podcaster), they've struggled more on the short passes.

And we never know how the refs will be and how bad our defense will be with pass interference.

I've been struggling with this. I actually don't think it is too much focus on uniforms. I know the players and fans get excited to see the reveals and see new and cool uniforms and don't want to take that away.

However, I think where I have gotten to (And this is not limited to App), is as a society we have gotten to a point where we focus on ourselves too much. Our personal success and our appearance. Don't mistake this as a criticism of being materialistic or selfish, it is different than that. Where I see the impact to football programs comes down to this:

Winning teams, successful teams, their coaches find a way to get their team to celebrate others success. When you see teams high fiving each other and slapping helmets after someone elses big play, they are playing as a team. When someone can make a big play and get back to the huddle or line up. Or go to a teammate who made the block and tell them good job.... And what I see from teams that are not winning is a lot of individual and even out of place celebrations. A guy makes a big tackle and is losing by 50 and flexes. A guy makes a big catch and celebrates and then is late lining up. And this is the criticism of App part. Right now we are the second team. We may have backups trying to hype folks up on the sideline, but not enough "team" celebrations, focusing on the score and your team, not individual success.

I do not think the team spends time on these items at all.... coaches and AD in the off-season more than likely deal with these types of things....weekly, the one player or so that is in the uni-reveal has some time.

I would be surprised if any member of our on field coaching staff has anything to do with uniform colors/selections on a weekly basis. I could be wrong, but it would really surprise me. And if any coaches do participate in the selection, we need to find someone else to do it.
