I absolutely love Clark as a person and I think he equally loves app state but at what point do you start to think about the possibilities of getting a hungry and successful FCS coach or an equally hungry OC/DC from a good team?

Re: Moving On To ODU
Some atrocious camera work. You’d think the NFL NETWORK would be good at broadcasting football, but no. No 1st down marker, camera zoomed in too far to see the play happen, camera bites on every play fake. Barely better than an ESPN+ broadcast.mountainman33 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:34 pmRough stuff. I don't have a way to watch the game, but I'm listening to the commentary and watching the score like olden times. Sounds like its the same issues on defense as usual, anything I'm missing?

Hopefully someone hired him away.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:34 pmSo the 6-7 games on a new team with new and many young players is more telling than his previous successful years of coaching defense? Yeah, we just have to agree to disagree on that one. The guy has proven throughout his career that he can coach defense.appstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:32 pmI don't know that Sloan can coach Defense. Same issues week after week and no progression leads me to believe he may not know howt4pizza wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:29 pmOur 2004 defense was really bad also because we were really young. Guess what, those young guys got experience and learned to play and we went on to have unprecedented success. We are playing a ton of young guys, they will get better and we will return to our old ways, just maybe not this year. We all know Sloan can coach D, just needs some time for the young kids to learn how to play. Things will improve.

Re: Moving On To ODU
My amateur observations:
Joey is playing pretty well overall. Keeps plays alive , makes decent decisions
Defense makes great plays, followed by dumb ones- ie take bad angles, get out of position
Clark may not be our guy, but IMHO replacing him at year’s end will set us back more than we know.
For some reason I feel like next year we connect the dots and win the close ones against good teams and dominate the crap teams.

Re: Moving On To ODU
First half ODU had 10 plays over 10 yards versus 8 for us. We had our 9th but our receiver didn't run his route.
How many offensive holding plays have we been flagged for this season? I'm sure we have more than our opponents have incurred in our games.

Re: Moving On To ODU
I've dabbled in low level coaching of multiple sports, highest only being 18U AAU Basketball. It isn't easy (but I was one of 2 guys without a staff). I've seen great football/bball/baseball minds be terrible coaches. And I've seen great leaders and motivators be terrible coaches. You have to balance both and you have to be super fluid and on your toes adjusting constantly. If you don't coach for adversity, you'll never be able to handle it. What I've seen from this staff is a struggle to coach "outside" of their gameplan. And I've said multiple times I don't see them rooted in an "identity" that they can manipulate the game to return to to favor what we do well. Previous App State teams for the last 2 decades have had that, this one hasn't. It's strange.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:31 pmIncredibly well said. I love when I hear fans pretend they know so much about football that they defend every loss. The reality is...the most average fan has the expectation that the program has set. If you cant meet average expectations...you are not fullfilling your job. No coach can survive an angry fan baseappstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:28 pmOn one hand I get it. You put on the blinders and believe "who am I to be a couch QB" and "he's an App guy, we are the best!". But the reality is there are 850 something College Football teams and like 250 Div 1 teams. This isn't the NFL, alot of these guys are JAGs who chose a career in football or weren't good at much else. Most fans can see what works and what doesnt, and this App State team situation isn't working.

When Clark gets canned he can take the sycophants with him. Y’all can pull for him being the GM of a Jiffy Lube or something.
There’s some losers in here that are satisfied that App has become Arky State because their golden boy keeps his job.

Re: Moving On To ODU
If and of course it’s an if we lose tonight, it’s completely reasonable to think we may only have one winnable game left on the schedule. If we’re worried about getting “set back” from a 6 win year followed by a 4 win year, then that’s absolutely lazy. Being “set back” assumes there’s progress.

No more excuses. No more “next season is our season.” No more “he bleeds black and gold.”
He’s an incredible person with a heart of gold, but that doesn’t make you a good coach. I might love flying, but that doesn’t make me a good pilot. I might love baseball, but that doesn’t mean I can start with the Braves. I might love beer, but that doesn’t mean I would be a good brewer.

Re: Moving On To ODU
I was excited to have him here. But 6 games in and we are having same struggles. Nah. Tell me what you see that indicates Sloan is good in this situation with this team. What you've done can only.get you a 2 fo 3 game leash. This is game 7 and it isn't just small.stuff.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:34 pmSo the 6-7 games on a new team with new and many young players is more telling than his previous successful years of coaching defense? Re: Moving On To ODU
We aren’t very good and it shows on defense and teams can easily prepare. Why are we giving 10 and 15 yard on coverage on the WR?
