"Embarrassed" - go some where else and whine -it was 21-17 in the 4th
Honestly, and as big a deal that momentum is, I feel like if we pick up the 4th and 1 driving for the lead (and not get a false start) we win that game. Crazy how 1 play can affect a game.
There were a handful of those seemingly little bitty moments that, had they gone another way, would've changed the game completely. For instance, what if there hadn't been that 15 yard penalty after the muffed punt? That would've made it more likely to score a TD instead of settling for a field goal.

This is why it's so silly to say App was "embarrassed."
For me, there were three of these moments.

1) the penalty for pulling the guy out of the pile on the muffed punt
2) the false start on 4th and 1
3) Funderburke losing his footing on the long touchdown. He was in position to intercept the ball but slipped. That was the true momentum killer.
All 3 good and valid points. Thank you. It just really sucks to get blown out at the end like that.
This is actually good news, whether people want to look at it that way. App was beat, yes. They were beat using the old Appalachian formula, yes. But the manner in which it happened is reversable. It sort of reminded me of an NFL style game between division rivals that will see each other twice in the same year. Talent levels were largely even, it was just a matter of execution.

Mentioned in portal thread, but Miami-Oh QB is injured and #2 just entered transfer portal. QB #3 has zero experience.

Miami Oh defense is good, but doubt they are better than JMU or Troy. Expect to score at least 28. Not seeing how they will score that many against us.

I mentioned above in this thread as well. Last game their original starter played was vs Toledo. Their board hopes the guy in the portal plays in the bowl.

I would think we hold them to low scoring especially if they have the new QB. The question will be how much we can score on their D.

Worry a lot of SBC members were backsliding the last half of the season and could look bad as a conference over all. Even JMU with losing coach/QB they could be a different team.
Most anytime a team loses a starting QB spells trouble. I'm not speaking of our case in game 1.
The Sun Belt will have the best FBS v. FBS record among G5 conferences regardless of Bowl Season.

Regardless of this, the fact that the CFP debate was between SMU and Liberty, completely excluding Troy, shows that they don't care about performance for G5's. Troy's resume surpassed both SMU and Liberty. The Sun Belt was far and away better than the AAC and C-USA.

Perception isn't reality and I don't know that it will get there with Gill. We need stumpers. The success has been there. We can't all go 13-0 and then shout "HEY, LOOK AT ME". We shouldn't be required to win every big game on TV in spite of everything else that is done and has been done.

The metrics are there. The models are there. The success on the field is there. The only thing not is some rich pukes in a boardroom.
You responded to my post recently with stats supporting the SBC and I don’t dispute those but am in agreement that as long as we’re still a doormat conference in the eyes of AP voters and others in the media, that will be the SBC’s lot in life.

Keith Gill is and has been totally absent. If he is not out in front of the media the past few weeks advocating for the league (which he clearly was NOT), what has he been doing? This is fundamental to the job. With the league continuing to “rise” would be a great time to make a change here to someone who can help take it to the next level.

That's where I'm at, at this point. He helped grow the league and seems to have a good relationship with ESPN. However that's not enough at this point. There is no reason he shouldn't have been out doing interviews, tweeting, and whatever else to get Troy's resume out in the public mind, as well as that of the SBC.

This idea that winning cures all is true to a point. It's obvious perception hasn't quite caught up to reality in terms of the Sun Belt's success and unless someone is out on the biggest platforms shouting it, it won't change.

Aresco said "P6! P6!" And everyone bought it. They still buy it even though it couldn't be more wrong. App played an FCS playoff team and 9 other teams that finished .500 or better. That's wild to me. What's more wild is that Troy did the same (except the FCS playoff team), yet no discussion. I think Liberty beat two teams with a winning record, maybe three. SMU beat four. Troy beat 8 or 9.

Interesting points about Gill. I tend to agree he missed an opportunity.

Why the assumption that he didn’t? Keith isn’t a shout into a megaphone that is social media. I think some of you associate absence as silence.

Miami's kicker has entered the portal now as well. Kicked everything for them this season except 3 extra points.

Billy Napier doesn’t think this will be an issue.
