Thats a 10-2 season. We could lose at Libery and win at Marshal...I just haven't seen what I need to see to feel confident about this team having the heart and toughness to win every road conference game. I hope I'm wrong.
I think we figure things out against ETSU, look good at times against Clemson, see it start to come together at ECU then hit our stride against S Alabama. If we can hang tough through Lib/Mar/UL we can get it right for the CCU/JMU/GSU run to the end.
We have tough stretches gapped with breathers and the only double away stretch at Marshall/UL which will be tough...if we get through that we control our destiny.
Its gonna be a fun one this year.
Road games will be where we can stub our toes. Can we figure out the Coastal conundrum? I think we've had better teams in a couple of recent losses to them. GaSouthern has a history for messing up our season

Re: Over/under Wins
Recent history they beat our best "2018" team and knocked us out of a bowl last game in Statesboro.
On paper before we begin, 2024 can be a great year. It's hard to win. Since I omitted my prediction earlier - my SWAG the ball bounces our way more this year - at least 9 wins regular season- which is an improvement over last season - and a return to the conference championship game - in Boone which is important to winning that game.

USA on a short week will be our first tossup game and set the tone for a though start to conference play (USA, Marshall, ULL).

It is understandable, but man if something happens to 4, it could get sideways real quick.

The way I see it, of the 12 games, we have one guaranteed loss and 4 guaranteed wins.
The remaining 7 are toss ups IMO. 5 of which are on the road. If you win half, well that’s 7.5 wins. Not an unreasonable O/U.

Agreed on the O/U and most likely believe 8 wins. The 4 away conference games against tough teams cause me some headache.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 12:39 pm1. ETSU - Win

If this was our schedule after the 2019 season, I’d say 11-1, maybe 10-2. Some of these teams have improved over the last couple years.

Re: Over/under Wins
I see ETSU as our only given win, but think we can beat everyone on our schedule including Clemson. I’m going with 9-3 regular season with opportunities to win CCG and bowl game.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 12:39 pm1. ETSU - Win

Re: Over/under Wins
I always enjoy this (usually annual) topic. There are always distinct camps- the group who is absolutely pessimistic and never wants to pick us to be good- only guaranteed win is ETSU. Then you have the other extremely optimistic group who sees a 10 win season. Of course we always have the group who refuses to even play along because it’s literally one game at a time. That negative Nancy group seems to always believe that us fans somehow control the fate of our teams. Most of them also secretly want to come back in December after we go 7-5 and say they told us. It seems like next season’s team has more question marks than in several years past. We know what we have at quarterback and our offensive weapons appear to be deep. The trenches will dictate the whole season. Can we establish the run and pass protect? Can we stop the run and put pressure on the other guys?

Re: Over/under Wins
I am a one game at a time because we don’t know what variables are in play from week to week. For me it’s we know what we have at QB #1 but don’t know what we have at QB#2 that creates the pause. Joey gives us a chance to go 12-0. Backups give us a chance at 6-6.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 1:06 pmI always enjoy this (usually annual) topic. Re: Over/under Wins
BIgdaddy agreed, with one caveat, 10 wins most seasons isn't extremely optimistic. The reasonable range of outcomes most seasons is between 7-10 regular season wins.
We go 3-1 more often than 2-2 in OOC games and anything worse than 6-2 in conference would be a below average year. I think most would say 2024 should be a solid year, the media and coaches will pick us top two in the east.
Throwing out "if healthy" should be a given when reading projections for a season.

Re: Over/under Wins
I really want to say 10 wins in the regular season, but can't commit to that without knowing more about our OL situation. I will have to revisit this after fall camp when we will hopefully know a bit more about all the new faces and how they look in our system. We got a lot of seemingly very talented players, just also very inexperienced. I really think the success of the team will depend on our OL this season. If we can protect Joey so he has time to makes his reads and get the playmakers the ball AND also give our RBs lanes to run, well then we will have a big season.

Re: Over/under Wins
8-4 with a conference championship title should be the bare minimum expectation (obviously if everyone remains healthy). Even at 8-4, there is a bit of disappointment. It would be a letdown if we can't improve from last year with coaching continuity and returning several key players.

I just hope Joey can find some throwing lanes over, around and between all that beef on the line. We haven’t had 6’7” and 6’8” dudes across the line since…..well ever.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 2:43 pmI really want to say 10 wins in the regular season, but can't commit to that without knowing more about our OL situation.
