Georgia Southern's Injuries

Unread post by T-Dog » Tue Oct 22, 2013 12:26 pm

Just listened to Monken's teleconference. Even though our season sucks, they've been decimated by injury bug.

16 scholarship players are out for the season. And that doesn't include the players out this week.

McKinnon, their starting QB, has been converted to B-Back since the top four B-Backs are out with injury.

I knew they were in trouble, but that's shocking how bad it is.

Any of you Southern Georgia onlookers have more insight?

No, other than Monken is not over exaggerating. Our top 4 b backs are out, still don't know if Banks can go at b back. McKinnon will play B back a lot. He's more elusive but not a bruiser like our others. Still he did well against Citty. Ellison will play QB and the kid has a motor. He runs well but is prone to make mistakes with his reads BUT he can actually throw the ball pretty well. The defense is thin at LB and how long App keeps them on the field could be a factor. Other than some linemen hurt and banged up, we''ll be in better shape than we were with Citadel.... But that ain't saying much.

I could be dead wrong but are a lot of these players still able to redshirt or take a medical redshirt? That would make sense in a transition year. :?:

Yes. Most of the season ending injuries were within the first couple of games so I think most that have a RS year available are being used this year. Medical RS not so much. Our #1 RB Swope (who ASU has managed to avoid each year) didn't play in the season opener and only played a couple of series in our 2nd game before being officially ruled out for the season the week of the Wofford game.

Injuries to our D have been the most devastating. We lost 2 of 3 starting LB's before the season started and have lost a couple on the DL.

FWIW we do have a very real injury bug. Even JJ Wilcox who now plays for the Cowboys went down today in practice and has to have an MRI on his knee. It's spreading like wildfire...
