Yeah. Hard to say some of us weren't concerned this was coming. This is a new age of CFB and many of us knew we were being left behind with our approach

I've said on here before- until we get some heavy money, our best bet *was using our brand to entice up and coming coaches to use as as a national launchpad. 1 or 2 yesr stints, recruit portal guys or under recruited studs (ie. Joey Aguilars of the world) with something to prove. Stay relevant, and maybe catch lightning in a bottle every few years and make a CFP appearance. Be what the "Atlantic league" is in minor league baseball. Guys will come and go play well and transfer or be sitting behind some stud at a P5 and come here to get playing time and get noticed.yosef69 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 8:16 pmHow do we fix it?appstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 7:58 pmYeah. College athletics is a joke when you aren’t one of the big boys. Recalibrate expectations and decide if going forward with personal commitment is worth it. I’m close to calling it a day on college sports. At least football and basketball. The rest is true college athletics and worth watching.appstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 8:22 pmI've said on here before- until we get some heavy money, our best bet *was using our brand to entice up and coming coaches to use as as a national launchpad. 1 or 2 yesr stints, recruit portal guys or under recruited studs (ie. Agree. It's dead as far as I'm concerned.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 8:32 pmCollege athletics is a joke when you aren’t one of the big boys. Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Man we’re bad . IMO it starts with the defense. I watched Houston’s post game interview. He said to some of the big donors watch what happens on the second play. Well what happened… a sixty yard TD. We’ve become on dimensional team ..not being able to run the ball and relying on throwing. Sad day for App state football. As much as it pains me to say this five year slow decline is squarely on number one Doug for taking the easy hire. Two on Shawn Clark for not having the team prepared time and time and time again. What a platform we had tonight sold out national television and looked like an extremely bad team. EMBARRASSING!

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Since my other post never made it, I'll comment here. It's most definitely time for change. I look at it similar to Nascar. Everyone is somewhat on the same playing field (G5). Successful teams have the money a crew chief that can get an edge on the other teams. App's crew chief is too old school and App doesn't have the money to get the crew chief needed to win a championship. So, you will continue to get what we have been seeing over the past 4 years......mediocracy

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Truly awful.
Program has been treading water at best since Clark took over. He saves himself with an occasional big win and avoiding a losing season.
He clearly has support from up the ladder.
Hard to see this team finishing with more wins than losses this year, so he’s likely in deep trouble.
He’s a good man and loyal App guy, but he’s just not the guy to move App forward, we have plenty of evidence.
Yes, the Sun Belt got harder and we need a coach capable of keeping up.
Good night fellow fans, hope the nightmares aren’t too bad!

Posts on this thread sound exactly the same as 2023 midway thru the season, then App beat undefeated and ranked JMU and everything changed...only week 3, let's see what happens next week vs Liberty.

Two blowout losses on national TV. One semi-expected the other should not have happened. Doesn't matter if we run the table. It's a pattern of slow starts and being unprepared.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
Last night wasn't about money. It was about really bad coaching. The team was not present. They played soft. They're getting their butts handed to them thinking they're gonna show up and win. It doesn't work that way.

I don’t understand posts like these. We’ve done “wait and see” for years now— and none of us like what we see.
We went 6-6 in 2022, started 3-4 last year (somehow won five straight), and we’re doing again what we’ve done the previous two seasons — only now it’s worse! There is a clear pattern here. The 5-game win streak was the exception— not the rule.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I didn’t get to see the entire game due to watching my son’s JV team get dominated by the run game — foreshadowing?
It appears USA did to us what we used to do, dominant run game, and D-line that could get pressure with only 4 men using stunts and quickness.
According to ESPN their QB was out during the North Texas game and probably wasn’t quite in rhythm during their Ohio loss
We’ll see how “good” they are and how “bad” we are in the next week or so as they play LSU and we play Liberty.
Not very confident right now.
Credit to Major Applewhite and USA, they looked hyped from play one. They were ready. We weren’t and preparation and being ready is on the coaches.

2023 was a let’s build on this and not do this again type season, not a this is the blueprint for how our season should go type seasonAppStateDieHard wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:06 amI don’t understand posts like these. We’ve done “wait and see” for years now— and none of us like what we see.

Since the beginning of 2022 season, we are 13-13 vs FBS opponents.AppStateDieHard wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:06 amI don’t understand posts like these. We’ve done “wait and see” for years now— and none of us like what we see.

Re: Worst I’ve ever seen
I know absolutely nothing about South Alabama but I’m willing to bet that they have neither deep pockets, an athletic department oozing money or a roster of players raking in NIL. What I saw was a roster of faster guys, defensive linemen who shredded our offensive line and players who could actually tackle. I think overall we have a really good quarterback but I’ve said it before he locks onto receivers and now the PICs are mounting. Early on for some ungodly reason the coaches decided that AC would be the main focus of our offense. Tight ends appeared to be nonexistent last night. Someone said it and I agree, we looked like little boys trying to bring down grown men on play after play. We even do little dumb stuff like continuously trying to return kicks we catch on the one yard line. Call fair catch or let it go and we start on the 25. We try to return the ball and get stopped every time on the 19. Over the last 5 years how many games have we played in which the other team has easily scored on the opening possession? If we win the toss just take the damn ball.
