Pretty sure they will kick our a$$. Tonight was just sad. I never leave early, I left with 11 minutes left in the 3rd. Just couldn't take it anymore. Glad I did leave now.

Re: Moving on to South Alabama
Alright. I’ve held out for a while and continued to preach “wait and see,” but it’s year 5. Being 2-2 isn’t the problem. Losing to Clemson and USA isn’t the problem. Losing 66-20 and 48-14 is the problem.
There’s no reason for a team to start every game and every season slow, especially with how much returning talent there is.
The only excuse I can think of for this start is injuries, but depth shouldn’t be this big of an issue in year 5 of a coach’s tenure.
I look forward to a rebuilding year with a new coaching staff next year.

Somewhere…in the wilds of Utah…a gorilla is drinking light beer and gloating.
When App suffered a bad loss at home in the past, fans leaving KBS were generally angry and vocal.
But last night? Mostly stunned silence, like an army in retreat.

He did not sound good, understandably. I’m sure that is hard but he really sounded just as stunned as all of us were. Said all our stuff is in front of us as expected though.

Re: Moving on to South Alabama
Last night was surreal. The weather was perfect, the skies were incredible, the Rock was packed. And, the fans were never given one reason to bring out a single APP /STATE after kickoff.
Even our one TD , not in garbage time, was a schoolyard play that should have been easily defended. And, the crowd couldn’t build momentum, as it was halftime.
Our QB play was just as bad as our tackling. We have a QB who refuses to run and who missed every window imaginable and who didn’t even give receivers a catchable ball or went to a check down well short of the sticks (that was usually) dropped, but would have come up short anyway. He even led the same receiver (Kanye) into devastating hits twice. I can’t remember ever having the same player, on the same play, get the injury clap twice from the Crowd after being prone on the field.
Kanye showed heart on the first run of the second half. Horn showed heart not giving up on the near pick six. Haywood and Castle showed heart with angry runs down, even late. Our receivers made plays when they could. And our D-Line (was battered and pushed around for most of the game), but were still getting after it and doing what they could until the end. There was some heart on the field.
But, what I didn’t witness was any soul from this team. I’m sure they were angry, disappointed, upset, whatever. But, as a team they never answered the bell. Maybe it’s scheme. Maybe it’s play calling. Maybe it’s a coaching staff that refuses to try a back-up QB or not run a running play immediately after we make a big catch for a first down. But, there was no soul last night. (and soul really matters to me)
Walking out after the final gun, the only comparison I could draw was the season of COVID, when the limited crowd and empty stadium were mandated.
(And, there comes a time in a game, when it’s time to pack the fireworks away, turn down the music a bit, and quit the 3rd down hype music. And especially, don’t play a video at the start of the 4th quarter that says this is what we train for, this is why we put in work in an empty stadium, when the stadium is almost as empty.

143 points in 4 games.
1815 yards in 4 games.
Not a serious program right now.

Im glad someone else is saying what i am thinking. Bad decisions on throw and tried twice to get 14 killed.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 7:55 pmASUTodd
I'm going to say something is going to get me a lot of heat and a lot of hate. But the three running backs we got are not as good as y'all think they are.
Neither is our QB.

Speaking just on the RB’s. We’ve been rather spoiled with RB’s the past decade plus, to the point that I’ve always just come to assume “we have another good one on the depth chart” when Marcus Cox, or Jalin Moore, or Darrynton Evans, or Nate Noel graduated/left.App91 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 9:02 amIm glad someone else is saying what i am thinking. I will say in terms of effort, which as a team was a joke last night, our RBs all ran HARD. Kanye took some big hits and kept working, Castle was Castle, Marshall & Haywood ran their butts off. So I want to give them credit on a day where there’s not a lot to go around.
But none of them are particularly dynamic or game breakers like the guys mentioned above. And it’s really limiting what we can do as an offense.

Ever since Kevin Richardson, I've never had to worry that we did not have a good running back.ah59396 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 9:16 amSpeaking just on the RB’s. Re: Moving on to South Alabama
I must be a gluten for punishment...I woke up at 2 am yesterday to catch a 5 am flight so I could get to Boone to see our Apps play, I stayed until the final second ticked off the clock and then when I woke up I read this entire thread. I am as disillusioned as anyone out there. This South Alabama team got beaten by North Texas and Ohio to start the season and just beat the every living snout out of our team in our house. At this point I really don't know if it is the scheme, or the players but either way both are the responsibility of the coach. I THINK that we have talent but I sure don't see much proof of that on the field. Our WR never get any real separation and never catch the ball in stride with room to run (except on those bubble screens). Joey is pretty good about getting them the ball despite tight coverage but he continues to seem to lock in on his primary target. If that target isn't open, he doesn't seem to go to the next progression of WR but instead looks for the dump off to a running back. There were multiple plays where we had open guys but Joey never looked their direction. Is this on the players or the scheme/play call? I really don't know but I suspect it is a combination of both. Our defense played the most uninspired ball I have seen from an App defense last night. I get we have some big injuries that have limited our depth but still, not being able to tackle is unacceptable.
After watching last night, it is hard to see us winning many games at all this year. ECU must really suck. At least I don't hear anyone claiming that USA must be a really strong team, everyone seems to realize that we just look like a really bad team. That being said, I seriously doubt an interim Chancellor makes the decision to part with the football coach mid season.

Re: Moving on to South Alabama
I think a lot of the attitude and soul doesn't really matter to the team like it used to because college football doesn't lock anyone in. I think players today can take the attitude of, "well this isn't working I'll go somewhere else." It's tough to watch.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:00 amLast night was surreal. Agree with everything you said, except for the final gun part. first time ever left early 10 1/2 minutes to go.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:00 amLast night was surreal. Joey will be charged with attempted murder for the 2 throws to Kanye. Game day operations and Fire works guy need to learn to read the room. No targets to our great TE.
Throwing into double and triple cov. with others open. and the biggest of all, refuses to tuck and run when coverage is there. could have picked up at least 3 first downs only to kill drives. He has totally regressed.
no fireworks when you are getting boat raced.
Brandon Turner said on radio that USA came out punched us in the mouth and we did not even swing back on them.

The amount of "what happened to App State" texts I've gotten this morning have killed my phone battery.
