Thanks John. Never doubted you guys. Said you were always spot on. I've just never seen someone so hard to dig up info on. If it weren't for the hudl highlights there would be nothing. Can't even find any numbers for him except D numbers from MaxPreps. You know I've got good sources also but I've mostly left them alone this year since they've had their plates full but I did call today, just for a quick confirmation.AppStateNation wrote:I think it's just quiet because the kid didn't use social media to announce anything which is how most everyone gets the word these days. My guess is that tweet you found just referenced our article or the commit tracker on the front of 247 cause I find it unlikely they have our sources.
That being said you can take this one to the bank. He for sure committed.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Oh don't get me wrong I would have my doubts too if only one source was reporting it. And just so there's no confusion, for "offers" we take players at their word that they have been offered. Unfortunately some of those players may in fact have "uncommittable offers" - that's just the nature of the game - and frankly we don't always know which is which. For commits, we don't take them for their word. So when we say someone has committed, that means that our sources have been able to confirm the commitment and it's for sure.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Yeah...I do the same thing here for "offers". I try and work in the word "reported" as many times as possible just so everyone understands that most times the first report we hear of an offer comes from the player themselves over social media. I had the board broken up between 'unconfirmed" and "reported" for a while but I didn't want to get any true offered recruits upset if they were in the unconfirmed section so I combined them. I think I've said it enough times now that everybody on here understands the offer situation.AppStateNation wrote:Oh don't get me wrong I would have my doubts too if only one source was reporting it. For "commits" I always try and backstop it with at least 2 if not 3 sources not related to the player. Gives you that warm feeling of a covered rear.

I agree. Add 20 lbs and he would be a beast at safety.firemoose wrote:I was thinking the same thing while watching his film. He's got good size and quickness to the ball and he's not afraid to hit. Would make a good OLB but having a 6' 2" hard hitting safety isn't a bad thing in the 3-4 either. Guess it all depends on who we get signed in Feb. Still a ways to go.mtnjax wrote:Interested to see if he is converted to OLB like Townes was

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Expect to see some more offers to go out. We've had several OL and DL visitors and will have more for both of the remaining home games. We've offered three DL's in the past 25 days. I expect we'll be putting some more OL offers out as we get more tape. Plus a lot of these offers have played both sides.Rekdiver wrote:Where''s the beef? We need Big OL And DL.....right?
On another important note, WR commit Rashad Canty was offered today by Minnesota. It's not over yet but I would not be surprised by a de-commit. They have several 6' 3"-6' 4" WR's who are Fr. and So. on their roster so he would have to break through for playing time where he would have the chance to start from day one here but it's a BCS offer vs us. This is one of the liquid commits I've had on my personal list. We'll know soon.

Yeah, we all understand that lol but I'm sure he would look at it as B1G greater than Sun BeltTheMoody1 wrote:mtnjax wrote:I hope the coaches are selling him on the fact that Minnesota may want him, but we want and NEED him

Reading the Minnesota 247 board, they seem pretty confident that he will de-commit and commit to them. I'm not sure if that is the arrogance of being a B1G ten school v. an upstart or whether they have a good read on his intentions.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Wondering if we could be in the running for 6-3/260 OG Joe Gold, who committed to FAU back in June. With what is going on with coach Pelini down there, I wouldn't be surprised to see some de-commitments from them. He is rated an 80 (***) by 247sports. We were one of his 4 offers, with the others being FAU, Charleston Southern, and Furman. Would be nice to add another one to the O-line along with the 2 OT commits.
EDIT: Just realized he is from the same school (South Fort Myers) as our latest commitment, Teh'ron Fuller. Probably could only help our case.

He may de-commit due to a BCS offer, but just don't think it's going to be Minnesota.hapapp wrote:Reading the Minnesota 247 board, they seem pretty confident that he will de-commit and commit to them. Re: Recruiting, 2014
For all those clamoring for some beef on the OL, i walked past today's visitors as I was going to my seat and there was one big as EFF dude with the group I would assume is an OL recruit. if he is even somewhat mobile enough, then we need to go after him hard
Also, there was another tall dude who looked like he would be a WR

I'm guessing the tall "receiver" you saw was Kelly Bryant, dual-threat QB from Piedmont, SC, Class of 2015 who was reportedly on an unofficial visit. He has offers from Clemson, USC, UNC, NCSU, GaTech and App. In other words ... long-shot.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Still watching accounts from the ones that I know were there. Most were 2015 and 2016 recruits. Only one 2014 recruit I'm positive about (doesn't hold an offer yet but is interested) but I think there were two more. Just trying to make sure before I post. I'm also thinking there was 1 or 2 others that I'm still doing a double check on.asutrnr81 wrote:...Moose, any word from this weekend's visitors and offers/commits? There were some really good looking youngun's there that "looked" like recruits.
Just a quick take from what I've been reading but it doesn't seem that our record or our crowd had any effect on them. The posts I've read have all talked about the same things (facilities, staff, family, school, atmosphere, etc). Most of these kids seem to know, unlike a lot of our own fans, that teams can have off years and times where the balls bounce the other team's way. History is on our side and every recruit and commit I follow knows it. If we lose any commits it's not going to be because of the year we've had. It will be the liquid or soft ones that were just waiting for that better offer.
And there are others waiting to take their place. Had a long conversation with a guy from Joplin MO today who was sending out a link to his brother's or son's (stupid me forgot to ask) video highlights. He's a 6' 3" 305 OL looking for interest. I watched the film and he reminds me a lot of Collins and Nunn from last year. He played 6A ball in MO so, unlike the WV kid, he's playing against a higher level of player. I had him send the link to our staff and I'm getting the info out also for him. I'll post a link to the video below.
By all reports we're heading for a class of between 25-30 players this year. Long way to go and we're really only half way there.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
firemoose - Do you have any idea what the maximum number is that we can sign?
Seem to recall 25, but many colleges sign more it seems. Guess some are brown shirted, but are we in a different area with the NCAA since we will be going from FCS Transitional to FBS Transitional?
