We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. The crowd was good. The weather was great. And we won the game and we are out of last place in the East. Not much to complain about.

Hats off to our O-Line for their strong play yesterday. We saw improvement in this unit during the ULL game and it continued yesterday. It was possibly App's best effort this season in run blocking and pass protection.

In layman terms and brief, I feel we have a team that can win and compete. However, we just can't seem to get out of our own way.

The offense played better yesterday, especially in terms of turnovers (compared to Louisiana). The D struggled to stop the run which was really frustrating. If we can put the two together, we can definitely compete. Nobody left is unbeatable, but none will be easy. Truly happy that we got the W yesterday and hope we can keep something going.

Re: GA St Discussion-Game Thread
It was great to see a special teams play to start the game off and a three and out.
The third and 8 run call on the first series made no sense, when we had the opportunity to seize momentum out of the gate.
Our defensive issues really seem to boil down to two things. DL can't get off of blocks to make a play at the line of scrimmage and our linebackers are the weakest link. Be it scheming, the others team's blocking, etc, there is often nothing at the second level. On that long all-run drive, it looked like we had the backups in, because Arnholdt and Harrington sprinted onto the field when it became a first and goal situation.
But, the coverage was generally good yesterday. We constantly took away their first read and several times their QB had to pull it down due to coverage. Hopper's big sack was with a three man rush and was a coverage sack. Also, to my recollection, other than the targeting and the roughing the passer penalty, no big penalties.
We also held them to 1-8 on third downs yesterday. Yet, we have only forced 5 turnovers in 7 games, which is why the blocked punt was so important.
Offensively, their was some creativity mixed in and a couple of designed QB runs. Robinson and Marshall had big days for us.
QB play is still inconsistent. He is still missing windows and getting saved by our receivers on off target throws. Even the TD pass to Makai Jackson was thrown behind him on a simple throw. Also, you have to slide past the sticks on key runs late in the game. But, there were no official turnovers and he showed some toughness on the two-point conversion run.
No sacks yesterday, and the QB needs to stay in the pocket when their is no immediate threat. There were a few times he left the pocket into the path of a rusher when the pocket wasn't breaking down.
Our longest run by a running back this year is still only 21 yards. Amazing that we don't have the home run hitters/downfield blocking to break one.
Our RB's are pretty banged up. Might be a chance for a young guy to get some touches going forward.
The fumble and the celebration penalty that led a short field were the major mistakes.
It's great to be back in the win column after 40+ days in the desert!

Re: GA St Discussion-Game Thread
Nice to see a win.
Run game is better, although our run defense is still pretty awful. Think we gave up 230 yards.
Defense did provide a better pass rush in this game, not sure if that was due to Georgia State or our guys improving, time will tell.
Hope they can find a way next week and just go from there.
Go App!

Looked at team stats and interestingly we are right with Ga State, CCU and USM as far defensive YPG allowed. We allowed (gulp) 712 to Clemson. Obviously hurts the average. ODU has allowed 403 per and didn’t have a top 10 team put a crazy number on them. All things considered we are probably average considering there probably aren’t any superior G5 defenses.

Re: GA St Discussion-Game Thread
Given the number of early season injuries to key contributors and the lack of depth, App's defense is pretty much a WYSIWYG scenario at this point. Just being pragmatic here.
But the offense is improving, especially the OL. Joey made better decisions yesterday, but I agree with 93: #4 isn't comfortable throwing from the pocket. Understand, that statement is not a dig on the guy; he's a great player but that's just who he is on the field.
This is an interesting year in the SBC East. No clear frontrunner and quite a bit of parity amongst the lot. A nightmare for Vegas, I imagine.

Re: GA St Discussion-Game Thread
I watched the linebackers closely this week, and there were numerous plays where they just weren’t moving fast enough. Like the ball is snapped and they just stand there for a second THEN start following a man or covering their zone. Gotta get better on first moves.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:13 amIt was great to see a special teams play to start the game off and a three and out.
