Re: Dowell Loggains
On the plus side, based on his current resume, if he craps the bed here, he’ll be gone by next December. It looks like he is more of a long-term rental guy than a homeowner based on his previous stops.

How funny will it be if this dude is successful AND sticks around? Playing at Dowell Loggains field in 30 years or something.

Fingers crossed that you’re manifesting here. I’ll give the guy ever chance he deserves, and he deserves them all, but I’m still beyond curious to see how he made his case to the hiring committee based on his resume.

Re: Dowell Loggains
My oh my how our beloved program has fallen. I encourage all players to jump ship and apply to Boise State or research their model. In 5 minutes of reading up on Loggains, it was very obviously apparent he is not the guy to turn this ship around. Let me be the first to call for DG’s firing!!!!!!!!!
This has to be one of the worst hirings in App St history. and that’s all sports!
We deserve better!!!!

One thing I do like: he’s got something to prove. Can’t be easy being a coordinator for 20ish years without a shot to prove you can be a HC.
I wonder who he’s gonna bring onboard and what his plan is as a leader.
Color me hopeful, because that’s all I can be at this point.

Re: Dowell Loggains
Good OCs get opportunities far before 20 years. Clearly, everyone else sees what we can't. this guy just doesn't have an impressive resume at all. If he were good at his job, he would have gotten a chance far before now. This is a bad hire.VNova wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 6:24 pmOne thing I do like: he’s got something to prove. Daniel Jeremiah gives praise. So I do to. Offseason can’t get here quick enough. Go recruit your ass off, Loggains.

Be honest, out of App State's last three football coach hires - Drinkwitz, Clark and Loggains - who were you initially most excited about?

Re: Dowell Loggains
In my EXTREMELY unimportant opinion that has absolutely zero bearing on the future of this program or athletic department: based on my research of him, he's a great guy with a lot of heart, but he was a lazy hire.
This hire is giving, "We have to keep the entire team from transferring and we're running out of time, so I guess this guy will work. What's the worst that can happen?" To go from some quality, highly sought after candidates (I'd even beg to put Tre Lamb a few notches above here, based solely on experience and record) to somebody who sticks around in most gigs for a season or two, has been let go from nearly half of every coaching role he's been in (Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets), and oversaw the offense for a USC that nearly ranked last in all metrics in 2023 and the first half of 2024, I'm just confused.
There are some pros here (turned the 2024 season around, has NFL ties that'll come in handy while recruiting, seems to take to up-and-coming QBs), which I'm trying to really, really focus on, but this is not an exciting hire and I'm just at a loss for words. I'm 110% behind him and hope he makes me eat a Thanksgiving-size helping of crow, but on paper, something is off.

Re: Dowell Loggains
First impressions when the hire was announced:
1. Clark
2. Drink
3. Loggains
After more research:
1. Drink
2. Clark
3. Loggains

I liked Drinkwitz until he left and felt dirty.
Clark was part of all the success in the FBS era and it makes me sad to see him leave regardless of the reason.

Re: Dowell Loggains
We need about the entire team to transfer… only 2 players would hurt to lose to the portal and one of them just entered… that being said he was added from the portal last year anyway… hope new coach pulls in 40 portal players and picks his guys from the beginning.

Re: Dowell Loggains
Hey, dude! Doing great - hope you and yours are as well!
Looks like the deal for Loggains is done. I will say he's had wavering confidence from the fan base here. He was a big hire for Beamer. His first year was OK then last year he seemed to have very little hold on what he wanted to do in crafting an identity for the offense. Was all over the place. Then this year he had the benefit of good talent to work with, especially Rocket Sanders, which made some people feel like it didn't matter what he called since Rocket and LaNorris so often had to make chicken salad out of you know what.
I feel like he'll be OK for y'all, provided he gets going with recruiting talent that can help. Be curious to see how he's received.
I reached out to a friend who is an alumni and donor to SC and this is what he had to say.

Re: Dowell Loggains
I love how many people are worried about what SCar fans think with their one conference title in the history of their program, and an ACC title at that. SCar fans are the definition of delusional. I was in favor of a change at coach, and we got a change. I’m sure Gillin and Co have a bit more resources than a 2 minute Wikipedia search. Some of yall need to touch grass and chill the heck out.

Re: Dowell Loggains
My biggest concern not knowing him very well is he has never been with an organization that operates on a budget.
This will be a point of frustration for him and likely quickly. I hope both sides were candid about expectations on that front.

TDs aren't the only thing measured in ratings. A lot of those ratings put things like total offense pretty high.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 6:10 pmWe averaged 26 points a game and USC averaged 31 points a game. I've been hearing about him for a while from them.
Hes lost every damn place he has been and has been REPEATIDLY fire. GD DG if this is the best we can bring to Appalachian State then I'm worried about the programs future. Our offense was ranked better than his for all those saying SC was a hot program. If you want to know why they are winning it's because they have a top 10 level defense.
As I said in the other thread I will pull for success as I support everything App State but I am not happy with this. Whatever. Unimpressed. I'm off for the night.
Im sitting here in an App hoodie. It's still great to be a mountaineer. I'm going to pour some whiskey in my App turvis while the inlaw cocks keep texting me.

Re: Dowell Loggains
So we got a lot of yards and either turned the ball over or couldn’t score. Pretty sure the only metric that matters at the end of the game is who has the most points. Putting up 500 yards of offense and 20 points means absolutely nothing.appdaze wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 7:05 pmTDs aren't the only thing measured in ratings.
