I apologize for beating this drum again …. But are we after Bomar (Westside High, Anderson) after he decomitted with the coaching changeover? I see do like him. He is fast and strong with a good set of hands.

Bomar and Weaver (based off their X feed) seem like they are off to bigger pastures. Holding out hope because those 2 are STUDS. Who knows, the longer they wait might be a good thing for us.

Sorry guys. Storm related issues today. I'm playing catchup. Obviously we had the pickup of the Austin Peay WR.

TRANSFER COMMIT:

https://247sports.com/player/jaden-barnes-46154098/

For fun some of you should go check out the stats page on the Austin Peay site: Compare the first part of the season to the last half. He opened more doors for himself.

https://letsgopeay.com/sports/football/ ... rnes/10809

As Stonewall posted we're in it with a few more guys at the moment but time is quickly running out to get in the spring semester. Guys have got to commit soon or wind up waiting until summer to come for fall. Miles to go right now.

So, I am a football player in the TP. Its January,
If I want to play, don't you think I would take an offer very soon so I can be there for spring practice???
These kids are nuts that are waiting for a better offer
Unfortunately, I think for a lot of players, the "better offer" isn’t necessarily about a better program or more playing time. It feels like many are just focused on earning as much as they can now, knowing that making it to the next level is a long shot anyway. So, whoever offers the most upfront tends to win.

That said, I want to be clear—I’m in no way trying to belittle the players for this. I don’t blame them at all for taking advantage of what is essentially an unregulated free agency as amateurs. It’s just the reality of the current system. Of course, there are definitely some outliers who don’t fit this mold, but that’s just how it seems to me!
A lot of that has to do with agents giving bad advise.

The fact that agents are taking upwards of 20% is also an issue.

I've heard horrible stories about agents really screwing high schools kids. Mainly in the AAU basketball, but I'm sure it has been with football now. With NIL in high school (North Carolina), it's going to be a sh*%show!

In the new era of pro sports requiring educational requirements is silly. Sign them, pay them and if they produce pay again. If not cut them loose. It’s a new day.
Word is we only had 10 players get NIL money last year. The model you’re suggesting isn’t going to work for us.
There isn’t a model that will work unless all paid equally. Even with that not a penny will come out of my pocket.

A smart player is going to only deal with someone who is a certified sports agent. The agents in college are screwing the kids right now though and some are not even certified. NIL agents are getting 10-20% in many cases and in the NFL they can only get 3% so college players are being screwed. If I was a player I would only pay them 3%.

Maybe I am not understanding the "paid evenly" response. If the reference is in relation to players, the model seems to work in the NFL. QBs make more than lineman, etc

In basketball prior to nil, in several to many cases, the AAU coach was the agent....not formally...but compensation was changing hands in some form or fashion

Understand what you are saying. With a revenue sharing model do you rank positions? What if you have a below average QB making more than a standout OT? How would that play with team culture?

I get it. However, that also happens in the NFL.
There will always be disparity in pay due the nature of the position. QBs get paid more even if a bad year. Although I am a "win games in the trenches" kind of guy, the Star positions typically get paid more
As this evolves, I would prefer to see some type of revenue sharing agreement amongst all the D1 teams. However, that will not happen as the conferences that have the Power teams will not allow it ..or SEC and BIG 10 will not allow it as they are ruling CFB at the moment....or try to have some type of modified revenue sharing agreement. No clue on what that would look like ..

I am just talking about football but I had heard that. Players were getting screwed by those coaches I am sure. When a player or parent does not know anything on the business they are easy to fool. It is happening with college football players now so I can imagine it is even worse with AAU coaches because some of them are shady and the player is even younger.

Interesting note here. Devin Ellison, a top JUCO wide receiver that we’ve offered, is from Canton, Ga and attended Cherokee HS. You know who else played at Cherokee HS in Canton? New transfer QB AJ Swann.

Ellison was a 2021 grad, Swann 2022. Wonder if they played with each other- it looks like Swann was the QB in 2021 according to his 247 profile.
Ellison has hinted at a commitment soon to a program via his accounts. Problem is, I don't believe he has visited App...
Looks to have visited Wash State, UCF, Gwebb (early on) and Hawaii. Hopefully we can get him back with his HS Qb AJ Swann on the Mountain.

Our new inside source says we're not in his top 3 though. Bummer. UCF, Boise, Wazzu.
On paper it looked like it could work and the stars might be aligning with the relationship to Swann but nope! Hard to compete with Boise after what they just did.
