The reality here is that Joey was bad enough in camp that Foster is willing to ignore the baggage and take Nico on anyway.

Keep this in mind as well. Joey was at practice with UCLA on Friday. If his reps were already getting interest from schools willing to pay him similar money then I would bet they would have told Joey not to risk injury at practice. I will be curious to see what schools actually offer Joey.

Reportedly, there was a split among the staff on who should start between Joey and Ryan so there were some who felt Joey practiced better than him at the start. There are also reports from people who saw practices that there were backups who should have actually been starting so I am not going to use the previous staff not picking a player as a reason why that player just has to be thrown in a game. The previous recruiting staff and coaches did not do a good job of evaluating players so I am not going to point to who they picked either.

Why hasn’t he signed with UCLA? Joey was at practice because that’s what team guys do. He isn’t likely to get a better offer this late. It’s not because he isn’t worth it. He over valued himself and other teams want him but a lower price because of his dad and how Nico handled this situation. According to reputable reporting, Tulane was talking to him but backed out because they did not want process to drag on and other schools have interest if the price tag on Nico were to drop.

I agree that team players go to practice but if Joey was getting major interest then he would sit out because you don't risk injury for a school you don't intend to play for. My evidence for this is that players do this all the time now since they all have an agent. Either Joey has really bad agents or they told him to practice and hold ground because they don't think they can get him an equal offer elsewhere. We all know that in this portal cycle players get overpaid because of the supply/demand compared to December. If Joey was seen as worth 1.2M in December then the reality is he should be valued a little higher now.

The reality is if Joey was seen better than Nico none of this mess would be happening. A lot of this does not need sources because actions speak louder than words. You are free to your opinion but the actions of other coaches show they don't agree that Joey is better is my point.

Crazy thing about Nico is because of ego he is taking a pay cut to go to a state that has way higher taxes and cost of living. He is actually going to cut his net extra money by more than 50%.

I have not seen him play and I did not expect us to get a tight end from the portal so I was curious if he is likely to be main guy or situational guy like you said.
