"The government can do anything it wants to do, if they have the votes" Arkansas evidently has the votes. Will North Carolina??? It definitely gives Florida and Tennessee an advantage. A huge disadvantage to Rutgers and the California teams.

Well you do bring up another point. Covid turned the 15% norm into 20% plus. We all have opinions on this and I respect yours. I am just at the point in my life that I am tired of folks getting carveouts I have never had. Now on NIL if they are getting paid they need to be paying taxes on all income AND benefits just like you and I.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 8:51 pmI think everyone should have to pay taxes if we do but I am okay with this being a temporary thing for them. If I go out to eat I always bring cash to look out for them because I know some just put it on the card and every waitress or waiter I know personally always told me to give them cash. On the flip side, you would be surprised how many people are bad tippers. Also, many people could not afford to give 20% on top of the normal prices and eat out a lot so I know people who have been eating out a lot less so sure on one table they might make more but when you got less customers it evens out.bcoach wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 8:33 pmActually I would think most resturant and bar bills are on cards. Actually inflation has boosted tips as the vast majority of tips atr a % of the bill and those bills are a lot higher now. An awful lot of servers are making some really nice money. EVERYONE should be paying their taxes. I am still working so I am paying taxes on my social security. That is money I have given the govt interest free. All they are doing is giving back my own money they have held for up to 50 years. So if I have to pay taxes on the money I have given them for 50 years then they can pay taxes on their tips.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 5:52 pmMost who get tips get them in cash and under report them to begin with so it is not like the government is actually getting what it should. I would normally be against no tax on tips but because of COVID and the inflation that happened I think the hospitality class needs it big time.bcoach wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 5:23 pmWhy should folks not pay taxes on tips? Tips are income and I have to pay on my income.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:14 pm
Can't help but think lawsuits are coming because this limits who can get it. Anyone can work a job that gives tips so no tax on tips is okay but I have to think that lawsuits are coming. What should be able to let a football player not pay taxes but any regular student working has to do it? With how much many players are making in NIL some of them should be in high tax bracket.

I don't tip based on a percentage. If someone does a really good job I tip well but if they do a bad job I don't tip well. I believe tips should be based on performance and not the check. I remember in college I would tip someone 50% or more of my 20 dollar lunch because they did well.bcoach wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 9:06 pmWell you do bring up another point. I do think everyone should have to pay taxes like you and I do but I am okay with no tax on tips for the short term. We can't do it forever for sure.

Tipping has gotten completely out of hand. I really hate places that put the big tip jar on the counter. Even Subway has the tip option pop up on the screen when you pay. I don’t mind tipping when I’m sitting down in and I receive excellent service but if I simply walk in and pick up a to go order that’s different.

The worst is the tip jar at Sweet Frog. What, other than take your money, does a worker do during the entire experience? You do it all from the cup to the sprinkles, yet they want a tip.

Exactly. Places like that certainly pay regular wages. I recall years ago a gas station near me actually had a jar for directions. Yep

Agreed. I never tip if I am doing everything but I don't care if they post it. If we have people dumb enough to tip for no reason then that is on them. I tip when someone does something extremely well. If my drink is empty all during my meal I don't tip. I think people should earn a tip since I have to earn every bit of my money.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 8:00 amTipping has gotten completely out of hand. I don’t think anyone tips for no reason. Some might have different reasons. Perhaps I do.

Re: Tax Free NIL
TIPS stands for “to insure prompt service”
You can change “prompt” to “proper” if you like, but it’s still the same idea.
And I agree with y’all: the whole tipping thing Is beyond ridiculous and the phenomenon has spread over into other areas. Example: the “I’m getting married, Venmo me money for a cocktail” we see from those on brides/bridesmaid trips. Nothing wrong with buying the bride a drink…but it’s turned into the maid of honor spending the whole night running around the bar, trying to get people to Venmo them money for drinks.
