Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
This is true, but I'm also hearing/seeing more and more people say the current Portal and NIL setup is pushing them away. It might not be a huge portion but I guarantee it has some impact on ticket sales.

Sure, a portion of the decline is due to that shift, however winning cures all. If we were reigning SBC champions season ticket sales wouldn't be down.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I’m told that a handful of Yosef Club season ticket holders have checked out due to the “pay for play” situation. I’m hanging in perhaps being hopeful that a meaningful resolution can be reached. That’s now , subject to change of course.

Happening a lot of schools. Winning can cure all but very hard to do. I am curious how many YC season ticket holders from past years that are not renewing for that reason.

I know of some that have, and many more that are in the same boat as you, myself included. I've been to nearly every home game since I was a kid in the early 80's, but its getting harder to justify.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I was a YC member and season ticket holder for a number of years, but I am no longer. For me, I am supporting Anderson University, a Division II school here in SC associated with the Baptist Church. From my perspective, it is run like the program at App used to be run. No NIL, limited transfer activity and kids playing for the love of the game and to get a quality education. For me, less travel and traffic, great seats and amenities for the same amount of money and I have a personal relationship with the staff and administration.

I used to get excited when we got new commits. I now wonder if they will ever be on our roster.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I'm in the same boat. I've got my season tickets renewed, but really not excited about the coming season, either at App or college sports overall. It's not about us losing - last year's record has little to do with next season anymore. I'm just losing interest in the enterprise, but hoping the coming changes will salvage something like the version I've enjoyed my whole life.
And I do think that's a big factor for people. If it were just about one down year, why didn't we see a dropoff following the 6-6 season a couple years ago?

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I know it’s beating a dead horse but following recruiting, keeping up with the team, watching players develop year over year was one of the big reasons I liked college athletics. With that gone I feel like I’m watching minor league teams with all new players save for a few here and there. I’m just not as invested as I used to be. I live six hours from Boone so at this point I’m looking at going to one game in each major sport per year now. Sucks.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I appreciate all the honesty on this post, its good for everyone to understand how this is affecting some of the most passionate fans with decades of of experiences and total passion for the program. It pained me to do it after almost 2 decades of driving from Raleigh for every game, but I cannot justify what has become of major college sports. I still support YOSEF and will watch every game, but I cant justify the time/financial commitment of something that irks me so much. I don't blame App, the players, coaches, boosters, etc. I blame the NCAA with their lack of leadership and foresight to see this coming. We missed a huge opportunity to take this money and actually help a lot of students who need it by focusing too much on getting people rich. Its shameful. Much more kids will suffer long term now chasing a dream that will never materialize and getting scrap money that wont last a few years with nothing to show for it on the backside, including a degree. Sorry for the rant.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
For football and basketball (mostly) are contributions basically paying for a bunch of one year rentals? How many paid scholarships are being taken up by guys who are here for one year? It used to be fun to look at depth charts and speculate who the starters would be for the following year since there wasn’t a max exodus or influx of unknown players. Now with the revolving door that’s changed. We have a single A baseball team here and folks who understand how it works know that the roster can change week to week and most certainly year to year. It was funny back in our first season we had a top pick named Seth Beer who played at Clemson. I watched people purchase shirts and jerseys with his name and thought that his time here would be extremely limited. Yep he got called up in less than a month. Even though we could buy App jerseys in stores and there was no name we still knew who they were for. Is that even being done anymore?

And for those making hundred of thousands to millions SHOULD NOT have a scholarship. Give those to players who really want to be at App and get a degree, not the ones getting paid a lot of money to be gone at the next higher dollar thrown their way. Better yet, if they leave, pay back the scholarship! Make these guys have signed contracts. The entire NIL crap stinks.
I'm a lot like others here. I've missed around 8 home games since 1985 and attend a lot of the away games, but things are changing with me now, like others on this board. I can sit at home and watch without wasting my money on players that don't care about the name on the front of their jersey, only the next biggest payday. Okay, my rant is over too. GO App!!

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
Some want to blame NIL, but the Transfer Portal is what they really hate, however, every year is the year to win it all now. What a school really needs to do is develop the talent not to keep it but develop a pipeline to the schools that can afford NIL and make it the school to get to the big time. Sort of like those players in high school that play for several different teams before they get to college. Some will stay longer because it is a good fit. Everyone talks about the players they lose and get mad but are really excited about who they are getting out of the portal. It is a double standard. If everyone did not want to win it would not matter. Appalachian is used to winning and once you have been at the top of the mountain it is hard to accept anything less than the top of the mountain.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
Because that year had Texas A&M, College Gameday and the Hail Mary. 2024 had nothing near those highs.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 2:19 pmAnd I do think that's a big factor for people. 2024 was supposed to be the year. You go from unanimous Sun Belt favorites and New Year's Bowl contender to 5-6 and firing the coach, that's a crazy drop off for fans with high standards.
And it was the second time in three years team didn't win. You can forgive the first time. The second time was a pattern.
Also, when giving a reason for not renewing, saying "NIL and the transfer portal and all these changes" sis a lot more convenient than saying "the team went 5-6."

OK man. You're right and all these people saying they're turned off by all those things don't actually know what we care about.T-Dog wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 4:20 pmBecause that year had Texas A&M, College Gameday and the Hail Mary. 2024 had nothing near those highs.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 2:19 pmAnd I do think that's a big factor for people. Yes, the second time was a pattern. That's why we fired the coach. If anything, a new coach would normally be something for fans to be optimistic about.
BTW, you aren't required to give a reason to not renew your tickets. You can just not buy them. If all these people are saying the same message, it's because they want someone to hear it.
