Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
Now we’re beginning to see the fruit produced by all of these shifts in the landscape.
If the system continues to operate this way, what will “college” football look like in 5 years? It’s likely the top-tier P4’s continue to receive strong interest. But what about the rest of the P4’s? G5?
And regardless of the changes, the “college” football model is still built on the assumption that revenue streams will grow. But is that plausible? What happens if more fans lose interest? What happens if the economy experiences a significant downturn? No business model is bulletproof.

That is just horrible. It is not the job of the staff to talk us up. They should be spreading our weaknes.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
Coaches are damned either way. Hyping your team generates excitement but also creates expectations. Saying nothing or humility and those same folks will complain that the coaches aren’t hyping the team so that MUST mean they don’t expect a good season.
There is too much inference made from what is being said, or not said.

That is the worst advice you can give. Strive for greatness and if you land short you're still successful.

It's not about us losing - last year's record has little to do with next season anymore. I'm just losing interest in the enterprise, but hoping the coming changes will salvage something like the version I've enjoyed my whole life.
And I do think that's a big factor for people. If it were just about one down year, why didn't we see a dropoff following the 6-6 season a couple years ago?
Yeah...I don't believe you guys.AppOrange wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 7:32 pmI appreciate all the honesty on this post, its good for everyone to understand how this is affecting some of the most passionate fans with decades of of experiences and total passion for the program. It pained me to do it after almost 2 decades of driving from Raleigh for every game, but I cannot justify what has become of major college sports. I still support YOSEF and will watch every game, but I cant justify the time/financial commitment of something that irks me so much. I don't blame App, the players, coaches, boosters, etc. I blame the NCAA with their lack of leadership and foresight to see this coming. We missed a huge opportunity to take this money and actually help a lot of students who need it by focusing too much on getting people rich. Its shameful. Much more kids will suffer long term now chasing a dream that will never materialize and getting scrap money that wont last a few years with nothing to show for it on the backside, including a degree. Sorry for the rant.
Maybe it's completely subconscious and implicit, or maybe you knew you were full of it when you typed this, but if we were coming off a 2019-level season there's simply no way you'd be jumping ship.
It's been several years since I checked this message board frequently, but ~15 years ago when I was on here every day I distinctly remember grouchy older dudes posting about how they've had it with our uppity program and they were taking their business elsewhere, et al. For every crotchety curmudgeon who takes their ball and goes home, there are 10 young grads who probably make more money at 24 years old than these types made in their prime.
I hate to see anyone go, but give it a rest already. App will continue to thrive through this unpredictable landscape, frustrating as it can be, with or without any of us.

Clearly not, but that doesn't refute the theory in general.

Then you should learn some humility and try to grasp the concept that other people might actually care about different things than you do.Gonzo wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 9:57 amEastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 2:19 pmI'm in the same boat. To restate for the record, I reupped my season tickets and YC membership for this year. So I haven't "jumped ship" yet.
It's not my interest in Appalachian State that is beginning to wane. It's my interest in college football and basketball. If you pay any attention at all to the larger college sports world, you know disillusionment with the changes of the past few years is far from an App-specific thing. Will they hold enough interest among younger fans to make up for the loss of those old folks you disdain so much? That I do not know.
Do let us know what the minimum salary and maximum age requirements are for someone to be allowed to voice an opinion.

Well, I would just point out that the grumpy old guys complaining 15 years ago weren’t complaining about what we are witnessing right now.
The people complaining now are upset because college sports really no longer exist, especially football and basketball.
I feel all of this will have a much larger effect on ticket sales, attendance and even tv ratings than anyone thinks.
Hope I’m wrong, and I hope this gets under control, because the sport I love is having its soul and spirit sucked right out of it.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
Solid advice for something that you can personally control. Complaining about failed expectations of things that you can’t control just makes one whiny.

And look, I'm not saying winning and losing doesn't matter. Of course it does. On-field success always correlates with fan interest, pretty much everywhere.
I'm just saying, don't use that as an excuse to dismiss people's feelings about the ways college sports have transformed over the past few years.

Do you accept mediocrity in all facets of life or just coaches you have a third-hand personal relationship?
Expectations are a great tool for measurement, use them with many things I can't control, kids' academics, co-workers' progression. etc.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I switched my giving from YC to the general funds a while ago. That was before NIL and the portal made this a rent-a-player situation, but until that changes I will not give any to YC just so we can borrow people for a year or two. I don't care if we go 0-12 or 12-0, I stand firm on that. I'll give to those interested in ASU for the long haul.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule updates
I sure am glad we have all those 24 yr olds to support the program. We never would have made it this far without them. It is disgraseful how these old farts have taken advantage of them. I think there should be an age restriction on the Josef Club. Only those 30 and under should be allowed to join. I say dump those freeloaders.Gonzo wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 9:57 amEastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 2:19 pmI'm in the same boat.
