I wasn’t speaking to anyone in particular with my comment. Most fans form opinions based on scoreboards and wins and losses. Nothing wrong with that, but there are a lot of factors that affect gameday results that aren’t seen by those with the strongest opinions. I agree with you on DLos situational awareness. It’s almost like he is trying to make the Hail Mary call to look like the smartest guy in the room.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 12:14 pmI see what I see and I know what I know, after watching 40 yrs of App football. So I conclude I must not be in your category of most fans. Something aint right there in the play calling world on Apps sidelines and it aint the players. That leaves the head guy in charge who appears to not have enough self critical awareness to know what the problem is. So I was just trying to help. Stay tuned. More to come next September. If problem is not corrected there will be bigger problems to address. Other programs with less resources than App have handled the new world of college football just fine. We can too.

Re: We need a good offensive coordinator
True with most jobs, good managers and leaders surround themselves with and hire good employees and let them do their job. Micromanaging can overwhelm the manager and also make employees unhappy, making them less effective. Unless you’re one of the top 10 best OC’s in college football, you should hire out the position and let them do their job.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 1:38 pmEven if he hired one, I have zero faith that he would let them call the game. And I am going to say this not as an indictment of Loggains; but I think that he can be a good head coach, but he is limiting his ceiling with his insistence of calling plays. He can’t focus on both.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 1:29 pmI’ll be shocked if we hire an OC. Loggains loves the TE in his scheme and he went out and got our highest rated recruit in a TE. He has no intention of releasing the OC role. If we see the same failures in offense next season, all confidence should be lost. Hoping he has the players in place next season to make it work, and maybe not hire high end mercenary QB’s next season. Make guys earn it, not play because they’re getting paid.

I thought our play calling we solid at times, but then hard to understand at others. One thing for sure is we need to run the ball more than we did this season. The NFL has largely moved away from the running game and his play calling reflected that mindset.

Can Gillin demand that Loggains hires an OC or is that just up to the coach? Gillin has to see the play calling is killing us.

He can demand it. But going back to my earlier question: would Loggains actually allow an OC to have any say in how to run the offense?Lowcountry App wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 3:15 pmCan Gillin demand that Loggains hires an OC or is that just up to the coach? People need to remember our off line was horrible especially after the amt of injuries they endured...this severely limited our play calling.

Re: We need a good offensive coordinator
I thought he was as well so that is why I posed the question. I mean he had big time talent at TCU that year and SMU had a lot of NFL talent as well. Clemson was suppose to be stacked with NFL talent this year so I wonder what happened. I would absolutely take him in Boone if I were Loggains unless there is something we don't know.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 9:48 amHe was a good OC at SMU and TCU

He scored 7 points in the national championship. And Clemson still hired him. I’m out on Riley. That offense was bland as heck as Clemson (maybe Dabo was calling the shots). We can’t afford him anyway.

Riley (former Tiger) running the offense while Loggains (former Gamecock) runs the program?
That's a hard pass for me...on several levels.

Wasn't Aashon Larkins the guy who was a defensive assistant at every stop until he showed up on the mountain to coach RB's?

Larkins was allegedly gone before the Arkansas State game. And yes, he was the defensive assistant everywhere else.

Looking at all the people in that department if there is no money for a position that is that important we have a serious management problem.

Re: We need a good offensive coordinator
I’m not sure I buy the idea that DL is a bad play caller.
My issue is with our QB play. In my 25+ years watching App St football, that was the worst QB room we’ve had, relative to our competition. It was a huge red flag we didn’t have a starter named/known until the first snap of the season. For the record, I was hoping our starter was going to be Wilson for Game 1.
I have no idea what we will do at QB now, but DL has to be scrambling. If I were him, I’m taking a long look at the FCS level for a proven winner/starter that we can lure away with our NIL that FCS levels can’t compete with.

Re: We need a good offensive coordinator
It’s really not a matter of DLo being a bad play caller. It’s a matter of trying to call plays from field level, while also working the refs, managing the clocks, coaching players up, accessing if we are in a legal formation, communicating with other coaches, etc.falcoapp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 1:12 amI’m not sure I buy the idea that DL is a bad play caller.

if he relieves himself of the playcallimg, he can focus on the head coaching duties. Trying to do it all (especially as a first time head coach) just isn’t working.
