Would have been something if Luke did what the guy did at NCSU graduation the other day- paid off everyone’s senior debt in that school of textiles . Wow

As extensive and expensive as my daughter’s pics were then it felt like it should have been glamour shots or at least Olin mill.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 3:59 pmAs long as it’s not one of those Glamour Shots set ups, you’ll probably be OK.biggie wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2026 4:09 pmYeah I will I can't talk wife out of it anyway. I know in 2009 they had at least six different graduation ceremonies, cause mine was the last one on Sunday. So they've had separate ceremonies for a while.

Re: Luke Combs
They had individual ceremonies up until 1994 when they decided to have one big ceremony at the stadium during a battle over building of a Convocation Center. It was a dreary overcast Boone day. As soon as they lined us up and Pomp and Circumstances started, the heavens opened up and it rained the whole ceremony. People were walking across the stage, grabbing their paper and walking out of the stadium. It was miserable.

BTW, Luke just had a concert at Oklahoma that raised $1.5 million for their NIL fund. Same thing at Tennessee earlier in the week.

What is the goal for App with John Pardi? Luke at $1.5 - are we looking at $150,000 - Money is Money but I don't see this concert pulling in much unless we let people come buy beer and then take it home.

Given how young in his career he still is, I doubt he has all that much say in where he gets to play. I figure that last App show was the last one for a while.

Re: Luke Combs
I do not think those were NIL events. They were very much just a stadium concert in the mold of the concert he played at KBS with reasonable face value ticket prices. $30-$50 being cheapest.
Now the Luke Bryan/Jason Aldean/Zach Top show in Athens last month was explicitly branded NIL and ticket prices reflected it with cheapest face value ticket being $125/ea.
George Strait at Clemson, also NIL with cheapest face value ticket ~$150.

Agree 100%. You won't regret going but if you don't walk there will always be at least a little regret. Take it from someone with that regret.Stonewall wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2026 1:12 pmDo it my friend. You will have earned it and it will be great for the kids! I don't know your daughter's situation at all, but I nearly flunked out- academic probation- after my first year of college. After my sophomore year, in which I didn't do that much better, I took a year off. A year of sweating in a restaurant kitchen and paying my own bills got me motivated and back in school in a hurry. Never made below a B the rest of my academic career.biggie wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2026 4:11 pmNeed something to motivate my daughter to do more studying and less partying after this past freshman year she had. 10th grader can probably get an excuse I doubt the 5th grader will get any excuse though.huskie3 wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2026 1:47 pmWalk! Re: Luke Combs
I was a professional drinker my first 3 years. Just a lot of Bs and Cs. The one class that got me was failing Chem 2, 3 times. Had friends that did the same, I think the professor were just not good a teaching it, the whole department was in trouble for like more than 50% failing. Once I got into my major classes that I enjoyed I mostly only got As. But did take me a long time of electives/minor classes to pull up my gpa to get into the business school. And was 5.5 years including 4 summer schools to finish my undergrad. Granted I was an Accounting major until my last semester so I needed extra hours to have enough to take the CPA. I think I had like 145 hrs when I did finish though.MrCraig wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2026 9:41 amI don't know your daughter's situation at all, but I nearly flunked out- academic probation- after my first year of college. She went in as a Chem major, failed the lecture the first semester passed the lab. Switched to biology but Calc 2 got her the 2nd semester (which now that she's bio major she doesn't need calc 2). We also told her she has to pay for any class she has to retake, so maybe that will help her motivation. She had a 4.58 GPA in HS, she just realized college was way different.

Luke Combs' net worth is $20Mil according to google.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 11:28 amWould have been something if Luke did what the guy did at NCSU graduation the other day- paid off everyone’s senior debt in that school of textiles . Wow
Anil Kockhar (the NCSU debt pay guy) is closer to $250 Million according to ai.
What we need from Luke, IMO, is for him to at least refrain from going on podcasts and misdirecting his NIL/Portal disillusionment into an announcement that he won't donate to the school's NIL fund and thinks we should move back to the FCS. Oh, and refrain from Uncle Toming in public with a UNC hat.
The economic impact of a hundred thousand App grads hearing that podcast clip, most of whom make five figures, rationalizing their fair weather fandom and refusing to donate to Appalachian in solidarity with their favorite country star and most famous App guy probably dwarfs the direct impact of the absence of Luke's $ itself.
The dude flew straight to Samford mall to tell the College Gameday Crew that App was "ripe for a power 5 bid" but the second we have a few down seasons he became our worst advocate. Until it was time to collect an honorary degree, it seems.
I'm sort of fed up with this dude if you couldn't tell.

2022 was a different landscape. It was right before all he!! broke loose and became nothing but a pay for play environment that we can't keep up with. No, those comments didn't help us, but it's pay for play that made the change of mind.Gonzo wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2026 2:53 pmLuke Combs' net worth is $20Mil according to google.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 11:28 amWould have been something if Luke did what the guy did at NCSU graduation the other day- paid off everyone’s senior debt in that school of textiles . Re: Luke Combs
PFT Commenter and whatever other famous JMU alums exist aren't on the airwaves announcing refusals to donate and calling for D-2ing their football team just because the current portal anarchy is objectively sh!tty. They just went to the CFP. Troy fans aren't doing that either. (Does Troy have any famous alums? Hector and Paris?). These are peers with the same or worst finances that we have. So I don't buy it when Luke Combs or any rank-and-file App fan tries to spin it that way. Our folks are mad that we sucked in 2024-2025. We've failed to adapt to the new era, sure. We also made one, possibly two bad hires in a row. It's complicated.
But if money begets wins (I agree -- it clearly does), this is literally the worst moment in history for a world famous App guy to say some sh!t like that. App Nation is bigger than any other SBC fanbase by a decent margin and we can afford to have the most expensive roster in SBC football, just not when there's pervasive and toxic brokeboy culture depriving us of the tools we need to be successful.
