While I like we are going after guys the BCS is interested, I'd be happier if we could actually get and keep them. It speaks well for the future.firemoose wrote:Missouri has popped up on a lot recently. they got poached a lot.I mentioned it on 24/7 that it seems like they are showing a lot of late interest in players we've been showing interest in for a while. As you said they either have been poached or they lost several of their targets that they thought we're committing to them. It does speak to the talent that we are targeting that two SEC schools are working a lot of them now, in addition to several teams from all the other BCS conferences except the PAC-12.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I saw where penny smith said "I wonder why Alanmichael harkness twitter is private now" followed by some laughing emojis.
I wonder if he is following smith to utc. That would hurt big and hurt his exposure moving forward in his college career.

UTC is as close as we are to Penny Smith, but just doesn't make sense at all.
Really thought Smith had a real future here.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Going to FBS there are plenty of athletes specifically for every position that have proven qualities. There will be some that are recruited as athletes, do not for a second believe Penny Smith was one of those. Believe we lost out on someone that could have taken reins in the QB position and made some impressive numbers.Saint3333 wrote:The coaches are clearly higher on JP. Penny was being recruited as an athlete first, QB second.

I'm reading this as you feel Smith would be better than Bryant, Lamb and Caruso? ---GoApps70 wrote:Going to FBS there are plenty of athletes specifically for every position that have proven qualities. Disagree. He can play QB in a watered down SoCon, not FBS. WV is rightGoApps70 wrote:Going to FBS there are plenty of athletes specifically for every position that have proven qualities. Re: Recruiting, 2014
I think Penny Smith would have had a very similar path to that of Paul Magloire.
I think he is a great athlete, but as a QB I don't see it. The release has a hitch in it and it seems long at that. I do think he could be a solid contributor elsewhere though. Compare the footwork and release of Caruso and Smith and it isn't even close. JP is very quick to set his feet and deliberate in his delivery. He is exactly what I think Satterfield is wanting to do with the offense. I think the future of our offense is more Baylor than Oregon.

Paul Magloire is a good comparison. I was thinking Jamil Lott, but your analogy is probably more accurate.asknoquarter21 wrote:I think Penny Smith would have had a very similar path to that of Paul Magloire.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
He wont be playing QB at UTC for a few years.
My opinion is he doesn't have the Appalachian mentality like DPressley, TCadet, to mention a few of the players that had many skills and now are in the NFL.

Listen, If we offered him we must have wanted him unless we told him during his visit that he would not be a QB.............Then I understand him leaving...just like Armanti ws told by Clemson that he would be a DB.....Follow your dream and best of luck.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
I'll leave the talent evaluating to others - I don't have first-hand opinions about any of these kids as prospects. In general, though, I'll just say that I am always more disappointed to lose a recruit to a BCS school than to FCS.Rekdiver wrote:Yeah I don't see any attraction in playing at UTC.......

Re: Recruiting, 2014
For those of you who haven't already guessed I'm staying out of this discussion about Smith. Unless he tells me to my face exactly why he de-committed I will never know. No one knows what Huesman said to him and with little Hues still having two years if he thinks he's going to be playing QB anytime soon he's got issues. We can never tell what these kids are thinking and why they do what they do.
Speaking of that, for those who haven't already seen it Harley tweeted the below tweet a while ago.

How app state just gone give up like that it's just a VERBAL #AppNation
Don't think the coaches gave up but when a player tells them it's over what exactly are you supposed to do? We either have to hold a possible spot for someone who says he's not coming or move on. Looked pretty solid to USF to me from his own words. Even his teammate stopped talking about App with him. Guess we'll see what happens next.
I'm taking a break after the 5th.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Lol, that tweet from Harley is a new one for me. "Wait, you guys are going to take me at my word and not waste my time and yours by continuing to recruit me!?"
Not that it would be at all unusual if App did stay after him, but I've just never heard of a recruit publicly whining about other schools actually honoring his "commitment." Enjoy that one, USF!
