No. They get press credentials and are allowed to sit in the press box and interview players and recruits but those sites are affiliated with Yahoo and CBS Sports. The sites pay the people working them from the subscriptions, and it's not a lot for all they do, but no money comes from the university. The reason we have sites like these is people cared enough about App to set them up and work them. Brian is behind at Rivals now but we'll see if he can get back to where he was before. John and Mike spend countless hours working the 24/7 site. So far no one from Southern has stepped up to do the work necessary to set up sites for them.

As a founding member of AppNation247.com, no the football program does not send any money to the sites. I am no longer a member of AppNation247, but I do know they get $0 from App in any way.

I see that it has already been addressed a couple times (much appreciated) but I figured I would clarify first-hand as well. John and I (along with Brian at Rivals) are not compensated in any fashion by the university. All that Appalachian provides us is media credentials, which allow us to interview coaches/players and attend sporting events as a media member so that we can participate in pre-game and post-game interviews, sit in the press area and get updates on personnel issues directly from Sports Information.

All compensation comes from ad revenue and membership dues generated by the site. Not only are we not compensated by Appalachian but we are prohibited by 247Sports from wearing any Appalachian apparel at games we cover, making any comments to a potential recruit that could be interpreted as swaying them towards Appalachian or being a booster. All of this is monitored closely by both 247 and the university. Our affiliation with Appalachian is no different than a newspaper beat writer.

Not sure where the GSU folks got that idea but it could not be more false.

GSU picked up some big lineman this past weekend. I wish we had gone after their DT.

They may have a slight edge on us at DL this recruiting year and even at OL, but we beat them at about every other position thus far.

Didn't see the original comments, but I'm going to guess it might be a conspiracy theory for them to explain why App's recruiting class is ranked so much higher than theirs.

From reports he's still down to App/Ark.St but who knows.

I'm not even going to say anymore about it until signing day because anything I post could be changed in 14 hours.

Hey Firemoose, since you follow a ton of recruiting, have you ever seen this type of behavior before? Is this WAY out of normal or semi typical. I wonder if anyone has ever kept track of the most commit / decommits by one player. :D

Sounds as if Eaton is enamored with the recruiting process, and loves the attention that he gets from it. Imagine it is a big ego boost.

It could be that or he simply slept on the decision and then decided he wanted to wait till the last minute to make the best decision for him, not a heat of the moment decision. Either way we still got a shot at him and if not still have an excellent recruiting class. The only thing that worries me is he would choose stAte because of the proximity to home. I believe he has a better relationship with our coaches and players, especially Stepp and Satterfield.

The coaches' tweets after their in-home with him sounded like he had already committed to them. Maybe they gave him the hard sell and he bit, then had second thoughts after they left.

Other explanation would be possibility of bigger offers, but Moose's post suggests that's not the case.

18-year-olds are fickle. When I was 18 I was torn between PBR and Busch Light.
