Re: Recruiting, 2014
Maybe so, but I think there is better talent in state than realized. Eastern, NC (meaning east of Raleigh) rarely gets looked at by any FBS in state outside of ECU. New Bern, Greenville Rose, Havelock, Hoggard, New Hanover, Scotland County, etc have really good teams year in and year out and are rarely scouted. As a former New Bern native, I know they don't get scouted. Maybe I'm missing something though.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Another potential surprise this afternoon ? I absolutely have no inside info but didn't we have an interest in a qb from Edisto, SC - Tyrell Maxwell. For some reason, I was thinking that he had interest in us, GaTech , and GaSouthern. Looked a lot like Armanti when running the ball but bigger.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Sorry. I'm very tired right now. Didn't mean to imply that there weren't good players in NC but that the actual numbers of High School players are less than in GA and FL overall and there are more schools crammed into the state when you count both FBS and FCS. It's well known that we haven't recruited NC as much, for a lot of reasons. But I've been told by members of the staff that we are working on changing that and will look there and in the Tidewater in coming years. As has been pointed out we have to establish relationships with coaches again as many have changed since we did recruit in state.AppHoops wrote:Maybe so, but I think there is better talent in state than realized. Re: Recruiting, 2014
I'm originally from down east and I think I can help answer that. Generally, a lot of the best athletes there don't play football or if they do, it's not their first sport. Down east is a baseball hotbed and some good basketball players have come out in recent years. Soccer is also a huge sport and have had many D1 players and to a lesser extent, so is tennis.AppHoops wrote:Maybe so, but I think there is better talent in state than realized. The NLI isn't in yet but we're keeping Meadors.

If we have a chance to interact with Rutgers fans going forward, let's remember to be gracious in our recruiting successes. Also, I'm told there is a possibility we will see them on the football field someday.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Pretty sure at least some of those programs are well known to college coaches (Rose, Hoggard for sure, Scotland County for sure).AppHoops wrote:Maybe so, but I think there is better talent in state than realized. But I'm sure you are right that there are some guys who get overlooked, as that happens everywhere, and those are definitely the kind of guys App should look to sign. As moose said, the issue is numbers. Realistically, App isn't going to win many battles against the ACC schools any time soon, and we probably won't win as many as we'll lose against ECU either, especially down east. We might find a handful of sleepers from NC every year. We won't find 10-12. That's why we're better off going where the talent pool is deeper.

I knew you weren't. Just feel like there is a lot of talent that goes unnoticed. Hopefully our staff will be able to get a better footprint over the next several years.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
And it's still not over yet. We'll see who else but I expect a couple more plus we still have a couple to use to fill any holes (Dillard replacement maybe but not sure. Got to see who's left). GREAT JOB but the whole staff to fend off Rutgers!!!!!

Yea it's tough. Good players down there though! Especially New Bern and Havelock. Feel like those two schools constantly get overlooked for talent, yet both schools compete for the state 4A title every season.

Valid points.
