Now That We Are Talking Football Again ---

Unread post by WVAPPeer » Mon Mar 03, 2014 10:17 am

I have some questions for you guys who have investigated and researched the SunBelt ---

1. Does the SunBelt have a TV package (not referring to the Tu/We/Th games on ESPNs)? How is it structured? - exp.-The SoCon Game of the Week was on SportSouth at 3pm on Saturday ---

2. Starting times - Does the SunBelt determine game times for those games not on TV or is it left totally to the home team?

3. Will APP be able to continue the showing of home games through appstate.tv? and if so, is it possible that away games will be available as well? Will there be a dedicated on-line "network"?

4. Do they have a "statute" that every team must appear at least once on TV? and would that include us and GSU this season?

thanks ---

I would doubt that we would see any of our SBC games on TV. I read elsewhere that the Saturday games (3 or 4) on ESPN2 have been announced and we weren't included. I don't think the mid week games have been scheduled yet. I do believe that many of the SBC games are available on ESPN3.

The only deal in place is with ESPN for a few games. There will be around 5 games added to ESPNU, and ESPN3 will also carry a good portion of the SB games. These will be announced closer to the season. The conference already announced 2 Tuesday games which App is not involved in.

2. Starting times - Does the SunBelt determine game times for those games not on TV or is it left totally to the home team?

TV would determine the game times just as they do with all other televised games.

3. Will APP be able to continue the showing of home games through appstate.tv? and if so, is it possible that away games will be available as well? Will there be a dedicated on-line "network"?

App can broadcast any home game not being shown on TV.

4. Do they have a "statute" that every team must appear at least once on TV? and would that include us and GSU this season?

I'm almost positive the SB (like every major conference) doesn't have a rule such as this in place. It's all about demand.

thanks ---

Unless something was announced since Saturday the only two TV games set for now are the Tuesday night games between ULL-Tx St. and ULL-Ark St.

The SoCon hasn't had a game of the week of SportsSouth for three years now, that was moved to PBC, then one EPSN3 game a week.

As for the Sun Belt contract, there are two ESPN2 Tuesday games already announced, five ESPNU Thursday games TBD, and a couple of ESPN3 games each week.

I believe we aren't able to broadcast on goasutv any game that ESPN3 carries though.

Bottom line is if we perform we now have an opportunity to get 1 to 2 national tv games, all home games (either through ESPN3 or goasutv), 2 or more of our road games will be accessible through ESPN3.

I use an HDMI adaptor I plug into my ipad or laptop and stream games on my tv. Best $40 I spent last year.

Yep - I knew about the SportSouth games but I was referring to when it was a weekly event we knew what channel and what time - I was just asking if they had something similar --- I also ran my laptop into my TV and what is better than being able to watch the games with David and Steve doing the play-by-play and color??? - I know that is not the case with ESPN3---
Are you saying we might have 1-2 national games this season? --- thanks ---

No, only if we perform. ULL is featured in both EPSN2 games this year. Ark St. will certainly get a ESPN2 and ESPNU game. The best teams get the most game on TV, similar to us and the SoCon, when they had a tv contract.

We may get an EPSNU Thursday game this year, but unlikely in year one. GA St. nor USA got one last year.

What do you guys use to do this? I bought a google chromecast, but I don't like it very much for sports because the picture is choppy. What's your setup?

HDMI cable from laptop to TV.

Will depend on what connections your computer and tv has... there are a lot of different ways to do it.

I'm surprised you didn't get WV on that earlier. After all he was helping Ol' Ben when he flew his kite. :D

ps- I know that William Gilbert is the father of electricity but the image of Franklin fit better with the joke.

That reminds me of a long time ago in a high school - one of my buddies was asked - Who is the father of electricity? - to which he answered without hesitation - "Reddy Kilowatt" - (a local cartoon ad character for Appalachian Power) ---

After doing a little digging, The Sun Belt also had a regional tv deal called the Sun Belt Network. It was an arrangement with Cox Sports and CSS (I think Comcast sports network). A seven game deal. These were for games not broadcast on ESPN. It ended last season but there is talk of renewing it.

I saw that ESPN is adding conference specific channels to Apple Tv and Roku next year. Looks like they may still only be what would normally be covered by the ESPN channels already but it seems like it might be all of them too.

Will have to keep an eye on the details when they come out.

ESPN Gameplan has always shown select Sunbelt games during the season. In fact, they always shows the local feed for NMSU aka Aggievision. If you have both DTV and ESPN 3, like me, you'll be set. Go Apps!

Doesn't gameplan just pick up games shown by other outlets such as the ACC network which is not really a network like the Big 10 network is - therefore if it is on espn gameplan someone has to be broadcasting it initially - right? --- :?
