Thank you Jesus. That's the one thing I hate on here...a little is fine, but some argue the sky is a different color blue than Carolina Blue (haha)....

We had one last year that was more than capable of making that play successful, he lead this past NFL preseaon in rushing. Travaris Cadet.hapapp wrote:
That play was run all during the championship years. It was a staple in our playbook when we had KR. We now have a back capable of making that play work again.
The divearooski sets up other stuff for our offense, but it is really predictable and frustating to watch it get stopped for no gain or a loss.
I'm really impressed with Miller, one Elon defender is still looking for his jock on the 30 yard line.

Re: 2nd & 15
Most of those "dive" plays are part of a read for JJ, that play does not look great when it is stuffed by the defense like it was this weekend. I would like to see us be a little less predictable on 1st downs. Our receivers seem to always be open for the short swing pass, don't know why we don't run that more on 1st downs.

Real concern is with the D giving up over 500yds...nearly 300 in the first half. We're going to have to outscore everyone.
Never thought I'd say it coming into the year but my concerns are squarely on the other side of the ball. I believe we will continue to score points but the defense has me quite scared.
The Citadel has not scored more than 10 points in a conference game since hanging 52 on us... Wofford and Georgia Southern will be VERY telling games.

I have to say this: We had a back last year who was capable of making this play work...Travaris Cadet. He's doing pretty well at the next level right now to prove it! What we DIDN'T have was a line that could make it work, and that's in the process of changing.hapapp wrote:

Sorry, BS. I posted without finishing the thread and looks like I said almost the same thing. Obviously, I agree 100% with your thinking.

No kidding. It's amazing how quickly McClain tore down the work that Elliot spent years doing.Yosef84 wrote:I have to say this: We had a back last year who was capable of making this play work...Travaris Cadet. Re: 2nd & 15
This is probably the biggest problem with our "up the middle" plays. Jamal hasn't been the best at making the quick decisions in the option game. If he can get his decision making down then the entire running game will click. Richie didn't get this down until his Senior year, and we all saw how well the O took off in 2005 once he did.goapps93 wrote:1. It's not a dive.AppGrad1 wrote:Scott, those 1st down dives just aren't working. Please mix it up on 1st down!
Thanks!
2. It's part of a game plan.
3. I agree it's used it a bit too often.
Some of us tried to tell folks after Scott was hired back that that play would still be seen a lot. I'm not sure if it's a straight give or a read play. It should be a read play and I've been a bit disappointed with Jackson's ability to make such decisions.

Re: 2nd & 15
I call the up the middle runs "divearooski" in jest of the fumblerooski play. Not sure a dive is a misnomer for that particular play APP runs up the middle. After all it is usually run between the 2 guards.goapps93 wrote:1. It's not a dive.AppGrad1 wrote:Scott, those 1st down dives just aren't working. Please mix it up on 1st down!

Dive (American football)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A "dive" (or "plunge") is a type of play in American football in which the ball carrier (usually a fullback or a halfback) attempts to rush through one of the gaps immediately to the left or right of center, denoted as the A gap. It may be run with or without a lead blocker, though when run with a lead blocker it may be called a "lead dive". It is often, though not always, used in short-yardage situations, specifically at the goal line. This play is used with Fullbacks or larger, stronger, less prone to fumbling running backs because this play values strength over speed.

Re: 2nd & 15
Yes. The read option up the middle is necessary to open our offense. However, the object is to GAIN yards. 1-3 yards on average would be fine, Hell, I'd take no gain at this point. Losing 5 each time doesnt open the playbook, it narrows it. Its like having a couple false start penalties every series, with the added disadvantage of actually losing the down.
39 yards were lost rushing on Saturday. And how many times did we punt on 4th and 5, where if we hadnt lost 5 yards we'd still have been moving down the field?
