I've been to Samford's campus. It's not the best looking in the SoCon. App's is. And, Furman's is a close 2nd.

But, you do have a good football team. You're well coached, and you play hard.
I would even go so far as to say they are the most improved team in the league and that quarterback they have might be the best we've seen!

Yikes, if you think that is so funny as to call it "classic", then you don't get out much, do you? :P  ;)

I'm gonna 'splain, Lucy. If you listen to any pre-game or post-game interview with Coach Moore, he will invariably say that the other team [fill in blank here] plays hard and they are well coached. He's done that for 20+ years, to the great consternation of certain posters on this here MMB. Personally, I think it is genius, as he pays a compliment, does not tip his hand, and creates absolutely no possibility of bulletin board material for the opponent. Others want a more confrontational approach --- but they will never get it, until Coach Moore retires.

Hence, certain App posters might find my post funny.

AppAlum1, is this another Moore classic? If so, he sounds like he may be the Lou Holtz of FCS football.

By the way, we think y'all play hard and are well coached! ;)

Yes, well, when he gets that specific, he was probably sincere. Again, it's a compliment with absolutely no chance of bulletin board material. And, that Elon team was good.

As if that makes a big difference? How many students does Samford even have?
And they could come back a day early to catch the football game. Probaby didn't make much difference.

Samford's fall break ended yesterday (Tuesday). They would have needed to come back four days early.

Ouch! Lou Holtz talks like his mouth is filled with mashed potatoes and he's got a hotdog up his nose. At least Coach Moore speaks southern English! He does say that every team plays hard and is well coached though

Thanks for coming over, Big_Dog and Jiggs. I'm sorry I'll miss a trip to Homewood for what could be a great game.

Sounds like brilliant planning to have a home football game during fall break. Did I hear correctly that the band wasn't there either?

I hope App can put together four good quarters in the same game even with the injury bug having bitten pretty badly.

Remember about a year ago when an article came out claiming Elon was the most beautiful campus in the country - Voted #1 - they had even posted it on their web and released it to local media and had started the process to order banners, etc., until a staff member started doing research and found it all to be a fraud ---

So my question is - Is Elon still the best? ---

I don't know how many students Sammy has, but the last two game I went there, the students section was tiny.

But I will say, their campus is very nice. It's a very beautiful setting. I Would put Furman ahead though, and of course, App. I don't mean to knock the whole school when I compare the FB stadium and the atmosphere to a high school. That's just the feeling I've gotten the last two trips there. From the card table under a tent that serves as the will-call booth, to running out of water by halftime on a blazing hot day, it's just not ready for prime time. But they have a pretty good program that always seems to play tough football and I respect their team a great deal. They are very capable of beating us this weekend if we do not show up ready to play sharp.

"Sammy"?

Too cutesy for me. All the other SC teams get less than flattering nicknames, not sure why the new, unwanted private school from Alabama is getting a free pass. ;)

Evidently, having a game during fall break didn't adversely affect their team. Citadel scored 52 against us...7 against Samford.

I think many would say "Little Sammy" which is about as vicious as it gets. It's difficult to get too tough on Sammy because most of their fans and alum are so damn nice, unlike some of our other SoCon rivals. They technically don't allow alcohol on campus on game days which likely keeps things a little more calm. When App played there in 08 they designated the App tailgate area in the field across the street from the campus, primarily to keep the alcohol away. They had porta-johns and even a shuttle running even though it was only a very short walk to the stadium. Our last trip in 2010 they had us in the stadium lots with everyone else. I guess we could comment on the track around their stadium but "glass house" prevents that.
