It was a thrilling victory, but somehow I feel that we stole one. I liked alot of what we did yesterday, however JJ looks to be putting too much pressure on himself. His decision making has been questionable. He tries to force a throw on a 4th and short when he has an open field to run and then there are times he chooses to run when he should throw the ball. Also at times he gets pressured and then he scrambles away from his blockers and into the defensive rush instead of just taking a quick step left or right to stay behind his blockers. I think he is just trying to do too much and thinking too much about it. Secondly, and this falls on the coaches, the play calling was shoddy on some of the drives at key moments, the offense looked like they were told to speed things up but the plays were coming off the sidelines too late creating mass confusion. Steven Miller right now is the greatest offensive weapon we have, when he comes out of the backfield and turns up field the defense has to play him with a linebacker and those plays are the ones were he gets the long ball thrown to him. Miller catches the ball like he's been playing WR all of his life and he looks like the fastest guy on the field.
The ball thrown to Price at the end at first it looked to me like there was no way he would catch it and stay in bounds, he used all of his big frame coming up with the ball and getting a foot down, just an incredible play. He has better hands than Quick did at this point and his potential is amazing. His only weakness is that he needs to work on his blocking for the sweep runs to his side, three or four times yesterday the guy Price was blocking ended up making the play on the running back.
The potential of our team right now is amazing, however I still believe we are a long ways away from being as good as our 05, 06 and 07 teams.

Keep up the hard work guys!!!

I was there and saw the catch clearly. It was never bobbled. He caught it cleanly and brought it in. Now, I could not tell if his foot was in. The picture shows it was . Also, if you go to the Watauga Democrat site, they have a photo that shows Price way up in the air as the ball is reaching his hand. A split second later, that ball is in his hand, still well before his foot would come down. All of the above leaves no doubt in my mind that it was a legal catch.

Jamal's interception was on Frazier, in my opinion. He was 2 yards away and the ball hit him right on the numbers. If he catches it and goes down instead of trying to run before he secured the ball, it would have never come down to a miracle drive. Surely, if Jamal had decided to run and took a big hit at the end, there would have been fans asking why he put himself out there like that with an open man right in front of him and no depth behind him.

In the end, we came up with big plays when it mattered. Mistakes were definitely made but this young team is growing up.

Just to clarify my comments....I'm not trying to beat up any player....especially not JJ. The decision to throw and the way in which it was thrown was an error in judgement. That being said, he has a tiny fraction of a second to make the decision and sometimes it doesn't work out. I like JJ as a QB and didn't intend to make it sound like I was throwing him under the bus. We are lucky to have this young man!!!

Just about all the comments I made above were observations made by DJ and Steve Brown in the booth. I was not in Alabama, so I was having to listen on the radio. For the record, they also thought the final TD was out of bounds, although DJ's dad (on the field) said it was definitely a catch. My point was that we can play better. JJ, Sanders, Lott and the other veterans on this team will watch their mistakes (and successes) and get better for it. We beat a good Samford team with less than our best effort, and that should be encouraging (in a backwards kind of way).

Next up is Wofford, and I'll be there ready to celebrate!

I wasn't at the game just listening - Steve felt the pass was thrown too hard at such a short distance ---

I thought the pass was behind Frazier causing him to have to turn his body and then juggle the ball.

The fake pun, which we fell for again led to those 8 points. Last year Samford had a successful fake punt against us, I believe. We fall for it every time!! TO COACHING STAFF: COACH AYERS LIKES TO FAKE PUNTS TOO! I'd hate to see it happen two weeks in a row, however, it would not surprise me if we fell for it again, again.

It is getting tiresome. You would think, just by accident, one of those would go wrong, but I don't remember a single fake punt or fake FG attempt against us in the last 7 or 8 years that was not successful. You can't really count the play in Chattanooga a few years back when the entire defense turned their backs on the snap and ran upfield and the punter, no doubt astonished to see a whole defense evacuating the premises, tucked the ball in and ran for the first down because I'm certain that was not a called fake.
