Re: First Half
I am sick of hearing Satterfield using the young excuse . It is getting "old" in a hurry. I'm sure it plays some part in our struggles, but young teams can win. It's not like we started our program last year , we have older players, but we choose to put the younger ones on the field. Maybe because they are more talented, but you can't have it both ways, Scott.
I would love to hear him take a little responsibility for a loss. But all he says is we aren't good because we are young. South Alabama beat us because they have seniors.
Could it possibly be we haven't properly schemed a team offensively or defensively yet this year? Why else do we completely steam rolled in all phases if the game in the first quarter? 0 first downs in the south Mississippi game and tonight, few in the ga southern game in the first. We may be young, but we have to give these guys some help and the tools to win, which goes back to coaching

Re: First Half
Got in my seat early to see the ceromony for Coach Moore. As I watched App warm up I had a very bad feeling. Saw no spark or hustle in the warm ups. Players appeared to be walking through the drills. It was cold at the begining of this game so I would think a more spirited warmup would be helpful in getting ready for the first quarter. Sure enough we went three and out and they marched down the field and scored. Seemed to be that way all night. Glad Coach Moore was honored pre game and halftime but I had hoped the team would be a little more fired up.

Re: First Half
Here is my issue with tonight. USA is a new football program. They weren't even playing back when we won the last FCS National Championship. How on earth did they build a much much better football team than us? Sadly I think the two men responsibly for this slip in our talent and fundamentals were in the stadium tonight. It's sad because Moore did so much good for us but his last 2 years and these last 2 have put us in a really bad position. The Rock wrote:I am sick of hearing Satterfield using the young excuse . Re: First Half
I can't and won't put any of this blame on Jerry Moore. Could things have gone better his last two seasons? Of course, but who's shoulders did it fall on tonight? The players.
Their lack of enthusiasm and regard for the game is astounding. I think we could have put some of the band members on the field and they would have shown a little more energy and drive. I understand that it was cold and that we may have been going in as the underdog, but that is not a reason to act as if the world owes you something.
This team is riding the coattails of what was once a great Appalachian State football team. They are nothing but a mere shadow of what once was.

Re: First Half
It's obvious to everyone who was there tonight or watched this abomination on TV that we have serious problems; problems that are not related to being young or to going through growing pains.

Re: First Half
It is pointless to analyze what we are doing wrong when we lose games. Games are lost because the other team played better, plain and simple.
The only question we should ask is What things can we do to recruit stronger, smarter, and more mentally tough players that will get us back to our championship days?

Re: First Half
first of all, we need to stop asking, or predicting SS and the staff will be fired, we cant afford another coach, and pay off SS contract, for atleast 2 years, just not going to happen, second, alot of the starters just aren't FBS talent, Im sure they are good kids, and they work hard, but these are basically Moore's kids, to be fair to SS and his staff, we need to see what he can do with his own players that he recruited. Having said this, Im not giving SS and his staff a pass on this game, they came out flat, not ready to play, that's on the staff, when we were down 20-7 at half, I really want to see us come out in the third and show some pride, and backbone, we got none of it, they should have just stayed in the locker room. After this game, SS and the staff needs to find out who was embarrassed by this performance, any player, who blows off this game as "no big deal", needs to be benched, and find some players who want to put forth the effort.

Re: First Half
Most people on this board have been delusional all season! We simply do not have enough FBS talent on this roster. It's going to take at least 3-4 years before we will start winning consistently again. USA was stronger, more physical and faster than us. Limited pass rush and Dbs that were beaten all night long. OL recruiting is our most glaring need.

Re: First Half
A point I really don't think is brought up here enough is the fact that the only guys who were recruited as FBS talent are true sophomores at best. These RS sophomores and above aren't suited for this level of football. Bottom line. I'm not happy with missed deep balls, DBs leaving receivers wide open, lack of enthusiasm, or failure to adjust at half but the fact is we really don't have older talented players. And yes young teams can win, but on those young teams there has to at least be talented leaders who have been there before. Obviously we don't have those. I understand the frustration but I'm more embarrassed with how quiet that stadium was, and I don't wanna see blame put on the students. Through the entire first half (all I stayed for) they were standing and cheering, can't say the same for the rest of the crowd.

Re: First Half
I can't really put any blame on the student section for it being quiet, either. These students have known nothing but lackluster teams. These students haven't lived through the national championship glory days. I still see them giving their all on gamedays, but after awhile, it seems to do no good.

Re: First Half
Agreed. Can't really blame the student section for being unenthusiastic when there is literally nothing to be enthusiastic about right from the start. And it's been that way for the last year and a half.

Re: First Half
Completely agree with you guys about the players not looking enthusiactic. It's almost as if SS told them before the season started that this year doesn't even matter. This team just isn't fun to watch and because of that crowds will start deminishing.

Re: First Half
Brownie in the post game radio show mentioned rather emphatically that we needed to get larger and more physical on the o and d lines. He attributed this to several years of neglect..
I love the fire of Bethard and McElfresh but if they are our best receivers and special team returners then we have a deficit there too. Guys remember that our freshman class is pretty solid and that we had to give scholarships to some walkons to get our numbers up. 2 years will tell the tale of Satterfields success or failure.
If we lose to Liberty and it ain't looking good...the stands will be barren for the last games and uLL will put the nail in this years coffin. I am usually an optimist but I am watching a bad team and a bad coaching job this year.
