The "nasty" bag has a full length down coat with hood, thick wool socks, a fleece lined poncho, hat, gloves, a Mambe extreme weather blanket, and waterproof britches. Looks like I'll need the whole bag this weekend. Since I've only been part of the App family for 9 years, my favorite snow games are the Richmond 3rd round playoff in '06 and the W. Illinois game in '10. No matter the weather, it's always a great day to be in Boone for family reunions!SpeedkingATL wrote:You may need 2 of the 3 weather bags the way the Boone weather acts. I still remember leaving Hilton Head years ago in 80+ weather and arriving in Boone to a wind/blowing show event. It was a Furman game in the 1980's and I was lucky to have a down sleeping bag in my trunk and I put my feet in and pulled it up to my ears to survive. My date went into the nearby dorm during the first quarter. To top it all off App lost.DaphneUrquhart wrote:I generally make the trip to Boone with three "weather" bags in the Jeep - one for rainy and not cold, one for very cold and dry, and one for just plain nasty. Looks like this weekend gets the "nasty" bag. Oh, how I love Boone!

Im honestly shocked at all of those scared of driving in the snow. Dont be in a hurry, drive like you have some sense and be safe. It will take bit longer for it to stick and 421 only sees issues in the heaviest of snow(not this). What in the world did you guys do when you attended App? Just stay in your Dorms or Apts Nov-March? Now the guy with the RWD BMW with more than likely high performance radials.......please stay off the road. Please keep the Raleigh/Atlanta road shut down psychosis out of here. Re: App State / GA State WX Trends - SNOWMAGEDDON BOWL
Will be trying to leave earlier Saturday morning to take more time and will be making sure I'm driving in the wife's awd (at least before heading up the mtn on 421).
Hope the road crews will help keep the ice off the main roads, I don't worry about the snow on them that much, but that layer of ice under neath got me a couple times while in school with RWD.

Re: App State / GA State WX Trends - SNOWMAGEDDON BOWL
My only worries will be ice..... Once I see that dreaded word it will take much more than a little snow to keep me off the mountain
One game does not a postseason make.

Not scared and never have been. If you want some fun try driving a fire truck or ambulance, emergency traffic, in poor road conditions. I was born here so I've seen it all. My warning was for those who do not live here and haven't driven in these conditions in a while or might not have the proper equipment. Your points are correct but there are MANY who don't follow them or have no experience driving in snow/ice and those are usually the ones who sweep you up into their wrecks. Just as a point of reference our first snow over 4" last year in Watauga resulted in over 100 accidents in the first 4 hours with 22 involving injury and 9 major. And BTW 17 of those were on 421 between Food Lion and the county line.ASUPATCH wrote:Im honestly shocked at all of those scared of driving in the snow. Sounds like a recipe for some ground and pound. Sustained drives with another 400+ yard rushing from the Apps. I hope that Cox is walking around campus with a ball in his arms today.

My father in law and I just decided to rent a 4x4 and give it the ole college try from Durham. We'll see how it goes when we hit Deep Gap. Won't be crazy, but can't pass up a snow bowl in Boone.

THURS AFTN*****
No major changes to the overall forecast. Snow and high winds are all expected. 3 to 6" possible with some areas close to 8" (Higher elevations). Some wind gusts to 50+mph possible.
Can't stress enough the need to make safe decisions for you and your family. I can't make them for you, you are responsible. But, this will be one of those games where a cold beer, some hot chicken wings at a local "establishment", of your choice, might be best. As for me.. I'll be cursing ESPN3 on my Apple TV every time it locks up... DJ and Brownie will be on the radio.
The **POOF* factor for this whole scenario appears rather small. Love for it too, but as of this hour, just not seeing that set up play out.
GO MOUNTAINEERS!

I can pull the daily report from back then and get a count for you if you want. I know there were quite a few out of state plates but many "MOUNTAINEERS" have out of state plates also, or did App not have people there that lived outside of the mountains when you attended.ASUPATCH wrote:Didn't happen to catch how many of those had Florida plates did ya?firemoose wrote:Not scared and never have been. Good attempt at being funny but you actually made the point for me. Many of the accidents are not of the "MOUNTAINEERS" choosing. Believe it or not there will be one or two non App State fans on the road Saturday. And they may not know how to drive in snow or not have proper tires or much tread on the tires they do have. Happens every time it snows here. All I did was issue a simple update on what we are told and said to be careful to those who were coming. How you got scared from that only you know.
In all your years of driving I'm sure you've seen several accidents with the sheets being held up. Well, I've spent a lot of time on the other side of those sheets. Forgive me for telling people to drive safe and be careful so I don't have to meet them inside those sheets. I'm done.

Scared wasn't directed toward you but rather those staying at home due to a little white stuff. Secondly yes the Florida plates was a joke there is a disproportionately high number of accident by Floridians. Lastly if you reread my messages you will see that I too told everyone to drive safely. Were on the same page.

FWIW, hard frost last night in the High Country. Not about accumulation on grass, but on the roads. Looks like town did pretreat the main roads in town since last evening. Hopefully the rain doesn't wash it away.
