Seriously, big thanks and congrats to Doug Gillin and his staff. This is the kind of game a lot of people thought it would take years (and millions of dollars in stadium expansion) to schedule. Goes to show what you can do with an AD who's resourceful, aggressive, and has a vision.
(And no, that's not a shot at CC. Just very impressed by Gillin so far.)

East Hall, I agree. Great work by Gillin and team. I never thought I would ever see a team like the U playing in Boone. This means so much to the school. The players should be pretty pumped during the summer with this and UT to look forward to.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I feel like we just entered the promise land. I was just hoping to get the Marshall's and East Carolina's of the world to come to Boone. This is a whole higher level! Now we have two (count them!) two Power Five teams coming to Boone in the next two year!! This is the power of being FBS instead of FCS. No way...no way period we would be seeing this if we were still in the SoCon.
There will be people who buy season tickets to just make sure they get good seats for this game! This is really a coup. Can be a really good recruiting tool!

This is truly awesome. Have App tickets ever legitimately gone on sale on Stub Hub? This might be the time. Going to be a tough ticket. I wonder if some Miami folks will buy season tickets in order to insure a good seat for this one? I seem to recall hearing that a lot of Alabama people did that when they played at Wallace Wade a few years ago.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I wouldn't expect that - Alabama and Miami are about as far apart as fanbases get in terms of how well they travel (or fill their home stadium for that matter). Should be an ocean of black and gold with a swath of orange and green in KBS.bigdaddyg wrote:This is truly awesome. Have App tickets ever legitimately gone on sale on Stub Hub? Gillin's making a name for himself.
I know Miami is one of those household names of football (at least in the past) but how well does their fan base travel? If they travel well, this could be an easy attendance record breaker.

Re: Hosting "The U"
If we can conjure up some snow that would just make it better! I see an attendance breaker easily. I was at the App V Coastal Carolina game years ago and we topped 30K. I had to sit on the visitor side and I can't imagine that they brought more than 500 that day. Even if Miami only brings a handful of fans- they will probably be so pissed that this game is being played at all they may protest, we should pack the place ourselves.

Good question. Don't know how well they travel but my guess is better than Sanfordhotrod2001 wrote:Gillin's making a name for himself.

Seriously though, I can't believe this one doesn't beat the attendance record. Win in Knoxville and Boone might literally burst at the seams for this one.

Re: Hosting "The U"
Miami fans don't seem too pleased with this home and home series. They say that we hurt their chance at a CFP appearance because it weakens their strength of schedule. LMAO. They need to focus on not getting blown out by their conference mates by 50 before they start worrying about the CFP. They are crazy. Go Apps. Beat the hurrilames.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I heard murmurs that Miami was trying to bully us into a 2-for-1 deal, which many of us gladly would've accepted, but hats off to Doug Gillin for holding his ground and keeping this a 1-for-1. We had the leverage, they were desperate and our AD held his ground.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I really don't think you will see any of that. They have enough trouble selling tickets in Miami. There is no draw for them in Boone. I don't think selling tickets will be a problem.bigdaddyg wrote:This is truly awesome. Have App tickets ever legitimately gone on sale on Stub Hub? This might be the time. Going to be a tough ticket. Have you seen the amount of Florida license plates in Boone during Leaf season? A football game against Miami just gives then another excuse to travel to Boone. 30K+ will be in attendance.

Re: RE: Re: Hosting "The U"
I agree, I know some local fans who have never been able to see the U other than on TV. They are psyched about the chance to see them in Boone. These are people that are casual App fans with no real connection to the team but just love Boone and try to make a couple games a year so this is win win for them.S.Lewis15 wrote:There will be a lot of Miami fans in Boone for this game.

Most people are calling BS when I tell them about this game. I have to forward the link as proof.
