Re: Shawn Elliot as next Coach?
Travaris Cadet, Andrew Peacock and Demetrius McCray are just a few of the guys we've gotten to ASU that ended up playing different positions than they were initially recruited for. A good football player is a good football player.
Re: Shawn Elliot as next Coach?
Prince also had Jordy Nelson and Josh Freeman together for 2 years, and his best record was 7-6, with a 5-7 after that. Not fair to expect him to beat Oklahoma then, but they were uncompetitive in many games.ASUPATCH wrote:appgrad wrote:The one he recruited to play Wide Receiver?ASUPATCH wrote: If nothing else Prince is a hell of a recruiter as one of his KSU recruits is currently a Heisman Finalist.
So he got his position wrong. Klein is the best running back in the Big12. Hes an athlete playing QB not the other weay around and Prince obviously saw that athletisism.
Also - Klein was only offered by K-State - so it didn't take much recruiting. The only other schools that checked him out were Air Force, Colorado St., and a then MWC Utah. His success is a testament to the coaching of Bill Snyder, not the foresight of Ron Prince.
My wife is a Kansas State alum, and I follow the program very closely, so please stop trying to be right on this. If Prince were really such a diamond in the rough, he'd be more than the Assistant OL coach for one of the worst teams in the NFL...
Re: Shawn Elliot as next Coach?
Much easier to turn a QB into a WR than a WR into a QB, like Snyder did with Klein. I'm all for recruiting athletes...but if Prince was still at K-State, Klein isn't flourishing as a dual-threat QB.asumike83 wrote:Travaris Cadet, Andrew Peacock and Demetrius McCray are just a few of the guys we've gotten to ASU that ended up playing different positions than they were initially recruited for. I don't disagree with that and Prince would be about my fifth choice for head coach. Just seemed like the position change was an odd criticism, Klein was a good find regardless. His coaching is questionable at best but I do think he can recruit.appgrad wrote:Much easier to turn a QB into a WR than a WR into a QB, like Snyder did with Klein. Not trying to be right on anything but I am entilited to an opinion am I not? He is a hell of a recruiter IMO. He got a formally Nebraska committed Josh Freeman to decommit and go to Manhattan. He then brought in Colin Klein who by all account KSU would be 6-5 without depending on who you ask. Assitant Oline coach in the NFL if a higher paying more glorious position than FIU OC. Sorry if you dont like Prince. But I feel he is at least worth an interview.

He was also the OC at Virginia and helped to Groom a certain Matt Schaub....maybe youve heard of him. So Schaub, Freeman Klein...am I the ony one seeing a trend here?

Re: Shawn Elliot as next Coach?
K-State is much more than Collin Klein...while he pulls the strings...the defense is just as much responsible as he is for them being where they are. Not to mention Snyder - who beats schools like Texas, Oklahoma, and Miami with 3-Star recruits and JuCo transfers.ASUPATCH wrote:

I don't think Prince was ready to be a Head Coach, honestly. He was only 36 when he got the job - and his career path afterwards doesn't lead me to believe he's trying to get back to being an HC. Part of me thinks he liked being called Head Coach, but didn't want to do the work to be Head Coach. We need a guy who wants that burden.

Mike Sherman did it with Ryan Tannehill. Its not that unprecedented to play both positions. CoCo Hillary was our backup QB for a little while due to injury. To say Ron Prince couldnt have done the same thing is purely speculative. Lets see how Snyder does once all of Princes recruits are gone.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You think the guy who took KSU from the worst program in I-A to the doorstep of a national title needs Ron Prince's recruits?!ASUPATCH wrote: Mike Sherman did it with Ryan Tannehill. Let's look at the facts - Prince brought in 19 JuCos for his last class in '08, and this is Snyder's 4th year back on the job. Because of that - a whopping 4 players on the current K-State 2-Deep were recruited by Prince - 2 starters, Klein and the fullback.
Nice try, though.

Sorry - the Prince discussion has devolved. I have the odd status of knowing way too much about K-State football for a guy raised in Atlanta, and graduated from App...JCline0429 wrote:asutrnr81 wrote:Did anyone say hi-jacked thread?

I will say, though, my first comment to my wife when I met her was "Hey - Kansas State - Ron Prince is the Head Coach there! He went to my school - Appalachian State!"
So, I at least can thank him for that.

Good, I'd rather have Satterfield than Elliot as HC. I'd rather have Satterfield as Offensive Coordinator, and a defensive minded coach as HC, but thats just my pie in the sky wish.

Re: Shawn Elliot as next Coach?
If true, that would be a damn shame. From what I understand, he has interest. If the job is handed over to Satterfield without even interviewing Horton, that is a BIG problem. He carries a lot of weight on the recruiting trail and has a great relationship with Coach Satt.appgrad wrote:Okay - just saw the tweet from Gamecock site...looks like it's Satterfield to me. According to Tim Horton's biggest fan, DG, he hasn't even been contacted.

LOL - it's funny - he has a name that most in the South wouldn't find humorous, but those in the Northeast or Canada would.
