If we're splitting hairs about those 4 little words...in the original movie scene Sean's voice is kind of muddied with other sound effects. I wonder what it would cost to have Sean go into a recording studio and lay down an over-dub to make it a little more pronounced and BOOMING.

I like the idea of having different people/groups saying "welcome". I would start off with the entire student section yelling it out.

Not splitting hairs. Just pointing out everytime an entrance song discussion ensues folks get bent out of shape about losing Connery. I am simply pointing out that both have always coexisted.

I don't think anyone needs to say "Welcome to the Rock."

I don't know why we feel the need to talk about changing the entrance song. Back In Black seems to work extremely well, and it fits both in excitement level and theme. I guess it's all good for off-season chat topics though. The entrance song is not JUST intended for the team or the students. It is intended to get the entire crowd hyped up! The only problem with having a student selected (or team selected) entrance song is that it would change at least annually and would smack of the "flavor of the day." That being said, those groups should certainly have a significant input since getting them into the spirit is key to the day's success (students being the most vocal group in the stadium). I haven't noticed Back in Black falling short in that respect. It has already become somewhat of a rock anthem / classic. I'm not even an AC/DC fan, but I like it.

Student and team input should definitely be considered in planning any music being played throughout the game as this could and should be much more flexible (just my opinion).

Regarding the "Welcome to the Rock", I do like Connery but I've always thought it was a bit of a stretch having a clip cut from a movie spoken by someone (even a mega-star actor) with no ties to the university. I wonder if Connery is even aware we are using it, or if he would like the idea if he knew. I do like the idea of rotating this function and having different individuals record cuts. Former start athletes, chancellors, groups of students, public figures, etc. That was an excellent idea!

Also, I'm not a country music fan either, but Outsiders is a good song. Whether you want it as an entrance or not, I don't see the need in EVER throwing Eric Church under the proverbial bus on this board. He is an alumnus and unless he speaks out AGAINST the Apps, he's good with me. I couldn't care less if he likes the Tarheels also. Contrary to what some people think, he is entitled to have an ACC team that he pulls for.....even (choke...bleh, bleh!) the Tarheels.

I was all for keeping the entrance song the same or allowing the player/students select. But after listening to some of the suggestions I do like POD- BOOM. Play whatever music you want at your tailgate spot and just enjoy the environment and game on the field.

Will say if you aren't playing "Beer Can" by Luke Combs(App Alumni) at your tailgate you will be missing out. Its almost game time. GO APP!!!!!

I know a lot of people dislike country/ bluegrass, but it is the heritage of the mountains. I think this song would be good for a montage of football players, students, pictures of campus, etc during the opening video. Not for the player entrance, but before the hype video.

Lyrics:

I've got that sweet mountain soul down in my bones
And I can feel it when I sing them lonesome songs
And I can tell by the way I feel
That it comes from somewhere real
Got that sweet mountain soul down in bones
I've got that sweet mountain spirit in my veins
And it flows through my heart like a mountain rain
And no matter where I might roam
These hills and hollers are still my home
Got that sweet mountain spirit in my veins
Some people call me hillbilly
Some people call my mountain man
Well, you can call me Appalachia
Cause Appalachia is what I am
I've got that sweet Appalachia all over me
Look at me and Appalachia is what you see
And no matter where I might roam
Appalachia is still my home
Got that sweet Appalachian all over me
I've got that sweet mountain soul down in my bones
Got that sweet mountain spirit down in my veins
Got that sweet Appalachian all over me

Without a doubt back in black is our song...I was just kicking around songs to get the fans more pumped...I love that blue grass Appalachia song that could be played during tv timeouts...and after we lay an ass-whippin on a team, this is how what we hear as the time runs down....

Yep. As you can tell, I love that song.

I really like this thread. I've never heard some of this stuff and I find myself in my seat imagining how each song would sound. I feel younger with every suggestion.....and with every minute closer to kickoff. Ready to go.

Not sure about an entrance song but this gem always gets the crowd up. Plus we can thank three 6 mafia to adding a beat to the instrumental version making it even better for games.

Check it out. You'll be pumped up...

As mentioned earlier, I think the Connery clip is a little corny and wouldn't mind seeing it go. And I think that clip is the only reason that phrase is used anyway - did anyone say it in the intro before we started using the clip?

Not a big deal by any stretch, I just don't think it adds anything to the intro, and therefore isn't something we really need to go out of our way to preserve.

So, I guess we should change the entrance song for the ODU "white out" game to "White Wedding"?

The Connery clip would mean a little more for me if we paid him to do it and he was wearing a yellow (gold) toboggan with the block A, rather than just the clip from the movie. Just me 2 cents. I think the intro is a big component for generating extra game day enthusiasm for the fans, so I hope we do it right.
