Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
If he doesn't make an NFL roster he can go to Canada or the AFL I suppose, but I'm not sure the AFL pays enough to live on...

The Duckster might have looked at Roof's luck with secondaries and decided he's as good as it's gonna get. He got good press for his 3 years here and yesterday when i was on the road listening to the UK/PSU game the announcers mentioned him (and AppState). He will get good looks but due to size will be a late round pick at best. If im honest with myself selfishly i want him to stay but I also want him to succeed at the next level. Nothing but the best to CD.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
It has nothing to do with the former or current coaching staff. Nor does it have to do with any academic issues.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 9:54 amThe Duckster might have looked at Roof's luck with secondaries and decided he's as good as it's gonna get. There were around 30 corners taken in last years draft. He's definitely in that 15-30 range so I think he'll probably be a 5-7th rounder and his fate will be determined in camp.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I think his ego has gotten bigger each year. I think this might be the best move for the team. Let someone who has something to prove on the field and let them do their thing. I look at players as they come on for the first time and see humility in them. Some players keep that humility, others let the success go to their head (I'll reference Ed Gainey here). I think Duck lost that humility and would eventually be a distraction. I could be way off with this but it's how I felt about him. To me, Legree was better on Defense yet kept his head and humility about him. Just my two cents. Wish Duck well.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Damn, y'all turned on Duck quicker than you did Satterfield.
This has 0 to do with Roof, btw. And I do suspect our secondary players will develop, even if Roof is the DC.
There are some really petty, emotional sports fans in this thread.

Don't want him to go and not sure if he'll get drafted, but based on the following year's draft being deeper than this year, can't say I blame him. He's probably got a better shot this year than next. Is it a selfish move? Maybe. But who isn't in this business and those that aren't usually get burned.

Wait, this is the Drink Staff thread, not the Duck leaving thread. My bad.

Duck gave his all for 3 years at Appalachian. We are lucky to have had a player of his caliber. I wish him well and I am very excited to watch him in the draft process.
BTW, There will be another staff announcement today.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
This arrogant/cocky talk is absolutely ridiculous. Name a cornerback at any level that doesn’t carry himself this way. They have to, it’s part of the position. Especially a slightly undersized CB like Duck. They are on an island by themselves. It’s a confidence that is used to not only intimidate the WR and QB but also plays a factor in a CB having a short memory. Find me a CB that lacks confidence or lacks the ability to have a short memory, and I will show you a CB who isn’t very good, or plays for West Carolina...lol.
It’s part of it and Duck is an absolute legend for the Black & Gold. Whether he makes it or not remains to be seen. But I can guarantee you there isn’t a CB in the country who will work harder and do more of what it takes than Duck. He’s been told his too small his whole life, and I for one hope he keeps that chip on his shoulder!!
Good luck Duck! You are a Mountaineer legend. Hate to see you go, but wish you nothing but the best. Chase the dream!
GO DUCK!!

What is the record for most replies on a single post in YC history?
Edit: NVM just figured it out. It is the recruiting 2014 topic at 1262 replies and recruiting 2015 next.
THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE 3rd HIGHEST RANKED POST IN YC HISTORY

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I put this in another thread last night about Duck.
After the Troy game I was on the field with my sons waiting for them to meet him. I watched Duck for 20+ minutes while he took photographs with kids, parents etc. He was gracious and humble the entire time.

Gainey had issues. That is why he did not make it in the NFL. Definitely agree on him. I was starting to think Duck was trying to do a little too much to stand out more when he would field punts he should not.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 10:42 amI think his ego has gotten bigger each year. I wish him well and no matter what I would be shocked if he does not go to the NFL Combine and once there it will be 100% what he does that determines if drafted I would think. Look how many juniors declare and run poorly and then go undrafted. Hopefully that does not happen to him.

Me too. We had our photo taken with him as well. He hung around until every fan who wanted to take a photo and congratulate him could. His teammates would come by to grab him but he stayed with the fans. He wasn't celebrating with his teammates, he was graciously celebrating with all us.HighPointApp wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 11:52 amI put this in another thread last night about Duck.

Any smart NFL team GM should draft him not only for his value as a team contributor but also as a goodwill ambassador.

Appsolutely. I’m sure there were doubters who told him he’d never play D-1 ball. Go get ‘em Duck. Thanks for all you’ve done for App State. You’ll always be a Mountaineer!appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 11:10 amThis arrogant/cocky talk is absolutely ridiculous. Name a cornerback at any level that doesn’t carry himself this way.
