We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.
Recruiting, 2015
Re: Recruiting, 2015
I don't remember their names, but I know they lost their top DE to Nebraska, top running back to Georgia, I believe a couple of athletes, and it looks like their top DB who seems to be holding out for any offer from any P5 school (we can relate to that). A couple of weeks ago, they were feeling really confident about this class, right now, they are feeling alittle disappointed with the last couple of days. As much as I hate GS, got to feel alittle sorry for them, they really got screwed over by some of their recruits.

I really like Brody Barrett, but still, a bit early to be naming him DL coach isn't it?

Everything today with Miller and Morgan make me wonder even more about Trae Meadows though. If we knew Miller wasn't gonna sign for one reason or another then we had a scholarship available. Don't get me wrong, Morgan looks like a great athlete, I just have an admitted bias towards in state players and Meadows looked really signable for us late.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Alex Davis went to Nebraska, Tae Crowder to UGA, Montre Hartage to Northwestern and Dexter Carter, Jr. appears to be going the prep route to maybe ? increase his stock for next year or perhaps due to grades. My guess is not the latter, but no idea for sure.moehler wrote:I don't remember their names, but I know they lost their top DE to Nebraska, top running back to Georgia, I believe a couple of athletes, and it looks like their top DB who seems to be holding out for any offer from any P5 school (we can relate to that). Montre Hartage (CB) was not our top DB ... that would be Joshua Moon (S) and probably our top CB prospect is Christian Matthew who we flipped late from Wake Forest. It doesn't help us losing any CB prospect honestly, because it is an area of need for us, but we have two others we had been recruiting stay through as well so we have signed three instead of the four we had targeted.
It certainly takes a little luster off the class, but relative to last year it's about the same level. It appears the rest of the conference kept pace or improved their own stock. I think everyone outside of NMSU, Idaho and Georgia State are in very close proximity quality wise ... the results will be borne on who filled their needs the best, IMO.
We only had four signees from last year log notable minutes. We made two key signings in bringing in a JUCO OT and a UAB OL transfer, that should plug into our returning OL ... the issue there won't be talent but building familiarity with one another. We redshirted some very good OL recruits, return several underclassmen with some experience, one senior and one redshirt freshman (Boynton) that will play a bunch that have already proven to be starter quality.
All in all I'd say it is a fair statement that we lost more talent on paper than we gained, but we shored up positions we need immediate help with. Next year it is clear though, we'll need to be targeting LB and DT especially. If we strike out there next year we'll be in major trouble in 2017 and 2018.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Devan Stringer was my favorite signee last year after his "I hate Georgia Southern and I never want to go back!" comment. Barrett is my favorite after those comments. If you express that kind of passion for App State, you have a fan right here.EastHallApp wrote:"While visiting family in North Carolina, Brody came to Appalachian State. It's really similar to what happened for us with Noil last year (except for the staying in state thing).
Speaking of the "staying in-state" v. "going-out-of-state" there has to be an interesting story behind Brody Barrett's recruitment all the way over in *gulp* The OC. How does Barrett leave the blue skies and warm ocean breezes of Orange County, CA for NC's High Country. I like it, but it's a bit of a stunner.
'The environment is a big part of it. I love how it feels very "wildernessy." It’s different than anything I have down here in Southern California,' says Barrett. 'And I was looking for a place that actually has seasons, and I know for sure that App State definitely has seasons.'”

I never want to say or guess on something I'm not 100% sure about. I can say that there are other reasons why a school may pass on a prospect who has the talent to play.TheMackAttack wrote:Everything today with Miller and Morgan make me wonder even more about Trae Meadows though. Not sure if others saw this story by Tommy:

With regards to Miller - I think that initial statement by Satt says it all... We only want kids here that want to bleed black and gold.
Today is the biggest day for HS seniors continuing their football to college and you are still undecided? If I were Satt I'd pull his offer as I certainly wouldn't want to waste a spot on a kid whose not completely bought into what we are building on the mountain.. This is a big red flag IMO.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
If what his HS coach said is true, that Miller wants to "keep his options open".
The time for that came and went, if I am a football coach I pull the scholly and find a kid who wants to play football. We don't have time for maybe I might "commit" etc. NEXT man up!

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Miller's non-decision is disappointing. Overall losing 4-5 recruits in a class isn't awful, but why did they all have to be in the secondary?

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We still picked up 4 more than capable DBs in this class. One Juco that will see the field a lot, started in January and a FR. from Alabama that reminds me of Wiggins on film, big hitter.
We filled needs at K, tall WR (current and future), DL, LB, CB depth and added 4 big bodies on the OL. Oh yeah and the highest rated QB we've ever signed.
I would have liked to had one more DL recruit, but that's about it.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
ESPN rankings has Stink at 73 in team recruiting rankings. Somebody on this thread had them at (I think) 4th in SB? Somebody's ranking is way off. I'm sure we have some great kids coming in and our future looks bright. That being said, as far as rankings go we are definitely low this year. Is any of this a product of having a young returning team? Do any potential recruits look at our roster and see little playing time early? I hope this is the case.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
That is disappointing as I hear SC heavily considered him but didn't have another spot left. I'm thinking we asked Morgan to go to GMC for one year and get his academics in order. Just a guess on my part.hapapp wrote:He didn't qualify.mtnjax wrote:Um, why is the GMC coach tweeting out a pic of Morgan saying welcome the newest GMC bulldog?

Re: Recruiting, 2015
My understanding is that we encouraged him to go that route and since we have such good connections the hope is we can get when his academic house is in order. Of course, his exposure will increase and it might be tough to keep him.JTApps1 wrote:That is disappointing as I hear SC heavily considered him but didn't have another spot left.
