Don’t forget Tennessee. They are dropping crazy money311neers wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 10:00 amIt's happening everywhere at every level. Starters on national championship teams are even leaving as true freshman. Imagine that...you start on a national championship team, get 2 sacks in the natty and still go portal. Kids are getting greedy. You have 1 good year, dip your toe in the portal and see who pays the most.
Texas, Southern Cal, A&M, Michigan, Oregon seem to be paying the most right now. Maybe OSU too.

I've been told by a USC fan that Robby Ashford, back up QB from USC, is likely to be in Boone next year

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
He has been at some historically huge programs, Oregon, Auburn and South Carolina (exception to the rule) but never did anything of note. Gives me flashbacks to the UT backup who came in last year with all kinds of fanfare only to leave after spring practice because he couldn't get it done. Coach should know this kid better than anyone and if he thinks that he can help us win, great.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:05 pmI've been told by a USC fan that Robby Ashford, back up QB from USC, is likely to be in Boone next year

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
The backup QB is always one of the most popular players to the fans, filled with potential. Based on the teams he has been on alone, one could surmise he is very talented. However, based on the multiple schools and no real winning as a starter and losing the starting job after a year in Auburn to a not so great QB, one could surmise he lacks the total package to succeed despite being very talented. He has flashes of greatness, just not on any consistent basis. Of course, playing on a G5 team outside of SEC defenses might make him look like Joe Montana.appstate24 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:10 pmLet’s Go!kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:05 pmI've been told by a USC fan that Robby Ashford, back up QB from USC, is likely to be in Boone next year

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
Exactly. If Coach thinks he’s got what it takes, and is a good fit… Get him up here, he’s clearly talented. If he wins the job great, if not should have a solid backup.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:15 pmThe backup QB is always one of the most popular players to the fans, filled with potential. And yet another hit to the DL, not sure we are going to have any left. Like the others, this one hurts.

We’re going to have an entirely new defense. How are they going to stop opposing teams from scoring on their first drive?

I imagine it’ll be a completely different scheme to what we’ve been running. I’ve been wanting a return to a base 4 anyway, so I’m hoping for thatNattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 4:09 pmWe’re going to have an entirely new defense. Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
Schools don't want players to be considered employees so they have been resistant to this idea and the NCAA is a impotent organization that has no power to enforce anything. Something has to change, either collective bargaining or a congressional anti trust exemption or some other clever method to give some semblance of control to the system.
