Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion

The WSJ reported that the players requested this. So I say support the concept, it is new. It is fresh, and it may or may not work. Wear what color you want, just BE THERE AND SUPPORT THE MOUNTAINEERS.

I took it from the posts attributed to John Law and Marcus Cox that the players wanted the white-out. That means, in military language, that the "tip of our spear" is pointing the way for our team. I say that we need to fall in line with the white.

It's looong been the tradition at Appalachian that the head coach and the team make uniform color decisions. That dates back at least to the late 50s when App's Black & Golf first caught my attention. No one has belly-ached any more than I have over the change from Old Gold to that yellow mess--but the players prevailed. Now, I wear it proudly. If the white-out goes forward as I suspect it will, I'll wear white proudly. Give it up, folks!

Okay after I read all the posts so far, I did something that may shock some you, thinking. Some one said that early September can be hot sitting on the east side stands. Well what kind of temps due the players go through wearing all their gear. If by wearing all white keeps them fresher during the game the white out may be to our advantage. Just my 1/4 bubble of level sense of thought.

I support the white out in theory. It will only work though if there is white t shirt of some sort given to every fan that comes through the gate and that may not be possible. If they are going to have a white out then support it. Get on board and stop complaining. BTW, I also kinda like the all white uniform look. At least for one game.

It's crazy to see how much App State has changed since I have graduated in 2009. Some for the better, but most for the worst. ... What was wrong with the way things were? Why do we need to do all of this extra stuff? The tradition is slowly slipping away with all of these attempts to try new stuff. ... I hate all of these changes. The Appalachian State my kids will know will be completely different than the Appalachian State I know. Sad, but likely true.

Welcome to adulthood. You are echoing the time-honored sentiments of generations of people once they are removed from their teens by a certain number of years.

If it makes you feel better, older alumni were saying the same things about "the Appalachian State you knew" when you were in school. And when I was in school in the '90s. etc. etc. etc.

Except, my father who graduated in 86 took me to many games through my childhood, eventually turning me on to App State. Many of the things I experienced in the 90s, were the same when I attended school. When quoting my posts, it's best to quote the entire point I was trying to make....

I knew there would be change when we moved up, however it seems as though too much is trying to be done at once. If you want to implement a new thing, you should slowly roll it out, not throw all these ideas out at once as they have over the past few years.

Acknowledging things ain't what they used to be, but my issue is with the pace at which these changes are happening. Slow and steady is all I am suggesting. It is also a more effective approach.

Too much is trying to be done? ITS A DAMN UNIFORM. Whether you wanna acknowledge it or not it's a big deal to 17/18 year olds. And as a 24 year old it's not a big deal at all. That's my biggest problem with this damn fanbase. A lot of y'all are stuck in old ways and don't relate to young kids and realize what they want. This program and its day to day decisions aren't about y'all as much as y'all wish it was. Just go watch a damn football game and enjoy it. I swear y'all won't care when we win regardless if we're wearing black or white. It's a minute change.

My biggest problem with it is that we are copying other schools ideas (and are very late to join in) instead of doing our own thing. I support our players and want them to have a great experience since they're the ones putting in the work, but that doesn't mean this is a great idea. I'm not one that only wears black at home, but I think the team should stick to black or gold.

The other issue I have is every time we try to do something like this we do it halfway and expect the fans to coordinate everything. The only way these things work is if shirts are provided. I'm not sure we need to spend ~$125,000 on t-shirts ($5* 25,000) to make it work.

I will say it is funny that there wasn't this much talk about the grey unis a few years back.

I hated the gray unis as well as "Always Attack" on the back. White will look better IMO, I just dislike it because it's literally the opposite of our usual color.

The funny thing is players at all the other schools clammer to wear black uniforms. In principle I agree with the posters that say these color out games are lame and do not generally work. I hate it when we do them even though Charlotte doesn't have a one-color tradition like App does. Realignment has already taken away too much in rivalries and tradition, so I say hold on to what you have built.

That's so true. I've said that for the last 5 or so years. Teams everywhere, especially in our own state have added black. Duke, state, ecu, UNC even the Carolina Hurricanes. Everyone wants what we have always been.

A few years ago, gray alternates were all the rage.
Then black alternates became the rage with other teams.
Looks like it's time for all white uniforms. I'm all for it. College Football is supposed to fun and exciting, and if that's what the players want to wear, and expect to see supported in the crowd, who are we to protest that? It's all just childish.

Wearing all white uniforms during ONE home game will not destroy the history, tradition and heritage we have all created in our minds that App State football is supposed to uphold.

I just emailed DG saying that this is a bad idea...that fans do not support this, but if they insist on doing it anyway, to do it the right way and find a sponsor to provide the shirts. Otherwise it will fail.

We'll see what happens.
