Re: Texas St game
I am now officially worried about the Wake game...if we play like we played today we're gonna get hammered. I never thought the Wake game was going to be an easy win but I was expecting to win...now I'm not so sure. Wake's playing well and we're just not playing at our full potential. Upshaw, Duck, Hennigan and Rubino had great games as far as I could tell...and probably some others. Lamb had moments of greatness but it's kind of over-shadowed by the rookie reach-in fumble mistake at the goal line drive that could have iced the game. I may try to re-watch the game on replay and see if the buffering issue goes away.

Will take the win, but lots to work on, play calling, playing a bit smarter, identifying what's working or not a bit sooner, etc. Need to stretch the field more and it doesn't have to long bombs, crossing routes, timed routes, get the TE's involved. Did appreciate rotating players in on defense to keep them fresh. Upshaw came through. Pheeeww! We were 23 point favorites??

Also, Subatch had a pretty good game didn't he? There was that one bad snap that almost went over his head but he brought it down and still got a decent kick...

Wake wins by 2-3+ TDs if we play like we did tonight. Then again they could be looking forward to Florida State and come out flat. Who knows...? 2017 is shaping up to be a wild ride all around the college football world.

Re: Texas St game
I wonder if this was a trap game and the guys were thinking about next week rather than the Bobcats. That tends to happen when your opponent is literally dead last in the FBS standings.Rick83 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 9:57 pmI am now officially worried about the Wake game...if we play like we played today we're gonna get hammered. On the bright side, this should probably put us up on top of the SBC standings, tied with either Troy or NMSU, depending on which one of them wins this (pretty good) game their having.

Don't think it's Moore, it's a o line that is clearly not as good as last year

Re: Texas St game
Did we throw to a tight end once today? All teams have to do is watch game film. We don't run any plays more than 20 yards down the field. No jet sweeps and the same base run plays over and over. Predictable

I admit that I'm not a good judge of talent, but Moore didnt seam nearly as shifty / elusive as what we've seen the past few years

Re: Texas St game
Coach Satterfield even mentioned FG as game changing moment in his brief, but precise assessment, post game field interview. (Understandable, due to immediate flight back tonight) Looking forward to attending my 1st Mountaineer talk of the season and hearing coach's assessment Tuesday after couple of days to evaluate game film, but have a feeling it's going to be, got out of there with a hardfought W, now it's time to focus on Wake, as Should be the case. Coach recalls as well as anyone who follows Appalachian football, how great of non-conference rivalry this matchup developed into in the 80's & 90's. Having the pleasure to have attended 13 of these games in Winston, (87-2001)which if memory serves me correctly, we were a respectful 5-7-1 as underdog "road warriors" I must admit it's going to seem strange to have this geographical rivalry renewed in our back yard for the first time ever. Gonna be an epic event for sure! Sorry, for such a long winded post, Just apprehensively excited after Texas State performance I guess. On that note goodnight all, and GO MOUNTAINEERS

Re: Texas St game
Texas State is going to go 4-8 and lose a couple games because of this game's film. They could be really good next season once they get depth.
Offense was vanilla and Lamb was not good. Eventually he'll have to throw the ball more than 20 yards downfield if teams keep stacking the box against the run. Even some of the short passes were wobbly and had no zip of them.
This was a gritty win despite poor play.

Re: Texas St game
There is no team leadership from the players. Parker is gone on the O line and you can REALLY tell. John Law and Gilchrist are gone on the D and you can REALLY tell. Cox is gone from the backfield and you can REALLY tell. (Thank goodness for Upshaw) This team is sloppy, undisciplined, at times lethargic, unfocused and the play calling lacks creativity (this is no doubt influenced to a degree by all the previous issues). They need a come to Jesus, player's only meeting and some guys have to step up and lead. They have to decide NOW if they are going to play to win and they have to get these issues resolved. It's time to hurt some feelings call some people out. Get it together, guys.
If they play the way they did today against Wake (I watched the Wake game to see how good they looked), the game will be just like Miami. Over at the end of the first quarter. Wake is much more disciplined, they open big holes for their run game, they have a QB, Wolford, who can throw the heck out of the ball to fast receivers who can separate and the Wolford is the best running QB we will see this year, by far. Their D is big and fast and well coached. Right now, they're everything we are not.
No way to not be disappointed in the coaching and team leadership, particularly with the seniors we have on this team.
As far as Texas State, I read one writer in the preseason who picked them to win the Sunbelt. They might not this year, but look out. They had 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores on the O line. Everette has them on the move. They played with heart and young, very good talent.

Re: Texas St game
The two big issues with offense is the middle of the OL has work to do, and we're very short handed on skill players right now. Until the OL gets better we can't rely on our normal smash mouth style of run game. We started moving the ball once we spread TS out and hit some quick throws. The only problem with throwing more is that were short 4 WR right now. Lamb doesn't have the to throw deep routes either. Hopefully we'll keep going to the quick passing game early next week to keep Wake's D honest.

Because when he picked it up it wa on the 1 and he was in the end zone. The refs said he was pushed from that position and not trying to advance.

Re: Texas St game
We do not or we are trying to avoid burning a redshirt. With Deltron Hopkins gone that jet sweep has disappeared.
Again go look at the Wake game on a 3 replay. They look like we expected us to look like. Off tackle and mid range passes will kill us. And I'll say again . No one is getting open deep. That isn't Taylor's fault. Moore is obviously dinged up. Johnson at LT is only a sophomore and has work to do. Ta Hayes is getting beat. The only reason we have a shot at a Sunbelt title is the schedule we are playing.....unless something starts to click. Wake is coming to Boone on a roll and we are returning with our tail between our legs

Re: Texas St game
What we learned. We must realize our team has moved from Hunter to Hunted. We must embrace this role of the team to beat in the Sunbelt. Teams are going to pullout all the stops to try to beat us this year as we are the predicted SB favorite to repeat.
I would expect more nailbiters to come both at home and away games.
We can help our team by standing up and yelling for them. It time for all of us fans to step up our game as well. Be loud and proud mountaineers, we can be the difference for our team this year.
It will certainly take all of us doing our jobs for this season to be special.

This....subatch had a great game. Averaged like 48 yards a punts and made an incrediblely athletic play on the bad snap. He definitely used his rugby skills on that one and got off a running punt.

Re: Texas St game
I thought the same thing last night. We are going to be looking at some uncomfortable first halves (down on the score board) a lot I feel with this target on our back. Sav St. was fun because it was over quick and like years gone by, it was utter domination. That is not reality, so we better get used to it. I once thought Wake was our last true challenge in the schedule, but I no longer feel that way. Wake is our last chance to make a statement, but certainly not our last difficult apponent. Idaho, LaLa, NMSU, all will be tough matchups if we don't bring the same intensity we did against GA.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2017 8:19 amWhat we learned. Re: Texas St game
Tx State is a much improved football team from last year. Their App State alum led coaching staff konw what they are doing, following a similiar model to what Satt and his staff are doing; speed, speed, and more speed. Until last night no team they have played had rushed for over 100 yds, including Colorado. We rushed for 120 and change. We played a tough team on the road in 90 degree heat and humidity and we won. It wasnt pretty but we are 1-0 in the Sunbelt. Bring on Wake! Im ready for us to smack them hard!
