2 points:

In 2003 I watched the (2002) National Championship OSU vs Miami National Championship as a (football) student athlete.

(2 points)

Tonight sitting by my pool in Charlotte, I watched my Apps lose by 2 points to Miami. I wanted to win as bad as anyone but O surmised a couple thoughts:

1) You can be successful from App. You can define your own success. Am I the CEO of BofA, no. But I’m okay.
2) In less than 20 years, I have witnessed my team that I love dearly, pull within 2 points of a national championship contender. Should/could we have won? Yes! But more importantly, are we on the same plane? Are we in the conversation? Are we disappointed with a 2 point loss to Miami? F yeah! Think about that.

At some point you have to nut up and your best players can’t drop passes in FG range.
Agreed, and you’re play on fourth down can’t be something that wouldn’t gain a first down even if caught. Just a very disappointing final possession

Man that one stings. We had the game, and gave it away. HOWEVER, I’m so proud of our guys tonight. We showed up and the county should know we are the real deal. We have the talent. We just need to execute and we win this and every game we play this year. Excited to see what this season holds.

Didn’t get it done when we needed to. Thought we would at least have a chance to win on a FG. Very disappointing.

Not good with the loss, but not feeling the ultra gut punch either

Miami did not win, we lost

The safety, and botched 2-point conversion hurt

I think we played well overall though.

I am proud of our effort and excited about our season

Can we run the table?— YES

Will we? I don’t know.

Let’s learn from our mistakes, build on on momentum, and do what we do— kick A$$!

This game stings worse than Penn State for me. The safety, the ending of the first half and the drops. Tough to swallow.
Me too, I really thought Penn State sucked it up and beat us, but we really did not have to be perfect tonight, just a little better. But seriously anyone watching this game comes away thinking damn, App is good. I wonder if Miami will face a better D the rest of the year? Maybe next week but I look for them to run all over most of the ACC.

That one hurts. Certain guys on both sides of the ball are going to be sick about 1 or 2 plays they missed. I think we are a really good team who just shot themselves in the foot one too many times

I thought we wasted last possession of the first half. After we moved ball past 30 with 30 to 40 seconds left, we should have taken our chances.
Viewing it live, our receivers did not see much space. We may not have in arsenal if maybe something Brice is not comfortable with...did not see any back shoulder throws down sideline. Would have liked to see this on last drive of first half.
Great game. If we have drive throughout season, this team should only have 1 loss.

Sucks but if you look at the rest of the scores today we were one of only a handful which weren't blowouts. We hung in there. Change focus, make improvements where we need to, give Elon the Iron Sheik treatment and then take care of a slate of three really important games. No reason we can't run the table.

Wow! So proud of the mood and responses to the game tonight. In the prediction thread I just knew somebody would be be calling for a coach to be fired or a player to be demoralized. Just genuine disappointment (which we should be) and looking for us to rebound and potentially have a great season here. I took a peek at the Miami board and its unreal how immature and harsh they are tonight even though they won. Obviously they want the coach fired and the QB King to be benched. It seems we have gained a level of maturity here.

Another observation is if someone told me 40 years ago that the offenses today would predominately run plays out of a pistol snap and snaps under the center would be rare I would have laughed at you. Especially if you told me there is much greater risk of a bad exchange under center vs out of the pistol formation. (Ex. the 2 pt conversion attempt). The game has changed and I really am starting to understand why teams still work out of the pistol on very short yardage situations. These kids just don't do that much and if you don't practice as much the risk is high.

Great post.

I agree on the Miami fans. I read a lot of message boards, their fans may be the dumbest and most toxic I’ve ever seen.

They are really living in a time warp from 1999.

A lot of loyal App people get upset because we can’t seem to seal the deal against a really good P5- Miami, PSU, Tennessee (that year). We did prove 2 years ago that we could go on the road and beat 2 P5’s. I believe that we are a legit top 30-40 level program. We absolutely must put together a complete game in order to beat a good big boy school. We played our tails off tonight on defense and ran the ball well. I think Brice will have some good games coming up. Seems like he just locked onto Corey too much and he seemed to panic a few times as well. That safety was killer and the attempt to go under center made no sense. I’m disappointed that we didn’t get it done. We can absolutely run the table and let’s hope Miami does the same now. Crush Elon and Marshall then dismantle the Belt.

Well we did beat UNC and USC.

It is so unfortunate that my brain takes me to the missed opportunities and we had quite a few…safety, 2point conversion, dropped passes, missed passes failing to take a chance at half…. But we did go toe to toe with one of colleges historic elite programs and even with mistakes had a chance. A relatively mistake free game and we win by 10 or more.

Now my brain says I’m feeling good about the rest of the season.

We're overdue, need to start winning these type games. Tennessee, Penn State, and tonight.
I say we get our due against a ranked team on Oct. 20th.
This is true, and I believe we'll take them out. I'm speaking of ranked P5 teams. Unfortunately, almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Meanwhile back at the ranch we should win the rest of our games.
