Lamb has run more in previous season so I'm wondering if we are coaching him not to run it as much to keep him from taking too many hits? Last night it was obvious GS wasn't going to cover him on the option so we had to take advantage. I'm sure it was killing the GS crowd to see us use the triple option to score several TD's!Saint3333 wrote:That scheme of quick passes is trouble for our defense.
Lamb must improve and our WRs must catch the balls to take the next step as a team. The first INT was a combination of Lamb throwing slightly high and to the side of a RB playing WR. It wasn't a bad pass, but I wouldn't call it a good one either.
The second pick was a result of Lamb's arm strength and a bad read with three DBs around the WR. I don't think he ever saw #7 on what should have been another INT in the 3rd.
He throws a nice lob ball to Meadors and good slants (which 16 should have caught for a 1st). He doesn't throw as tight of a spiral on some throws.
Lamb is a good QB and the staff seems to understand the types of throws that work for him (he's pretty much Satterfield 20 years later, Satt would say a more athletic version). I don't think we run the ball enough with him, he's a very underrated runner, and makes great decisions (even that late pitch which reminded me of Satterfield actually).
We've seen this with other QBs in our past that start for 3-4 years. They breakout their sophomore year, flat their junior year and then make another jump their senior year. He's a great kid with time still to improve for us. He's going to be a great coach someday.

Their defense obviously hasn't seen it in practice this year...JTApps1 wrote:Lamb has run more in previous season so I'm wondering if we are coaching him not to run it as much to keep him from taking too many hits? Anyone hear anything on Letman yesterday? I assumed he'd more involved, only really saw him on the sidelines. Unless with some of the other WRs back we just didn't want him out there.

I agree that Troy will be a very tough game but I think you are under-estimating our defense if you think we must score 35 to win.Saint3333 wrote:To beat Troy we'll have to score 35, I'm not sure our offense can to that versus their front seven. We only beat Troy if Lamb plays more like last year.

I think the concern there is that we have seen 3 Horrible offenses in our 3 wins. As well the Miami and Akron performances are still in the backs of our minds. For sure our boys will have to ball out.Cincy App wrote:I agree that Troy will be a very tough game but I think you are under-estimating our defense if you think we must score 35 to win.Saint3333 wrote:To beat Troy we'll have to score 35, I'm not sure our offense can to that versus their front seven. Maybe you're thinking about a different FBS team in Alabama, Saint. Our starters haven't allowed a single TD in all four conference games so far.

I would say Troy was more consistently good than we were in the first half of the season. I think that's starting to change. If we play like we did last night (minus the FG blunder, obviously), I think we beat them.

They are second in the SBC in points allowed and total defense and first against the run. While they may not have our D, as far as SBC standards are concerned they aren't average.Gonzo wrote:The fact that they went to the wire with USA and their defense is average.hapapp wrote:Based on what?Gonzo wrote:Troy is overrated.

I tend to agree. If another team comes close to hanging 35 on this defense I'll be stunned.Gonzo wrote:Maybe you're thinking about a different FBS team in Alabama, Saint. Our starters haven't allowed a single TD in all four conference games so far.

You're right Stonewall...let's just celebrate the GSU smackdown a few more hours and then focus just on Texas State.Stonewall wrote:Texas State, that's all.

3 Horrible offenses? I completely disagree. All 3 of ULaLa, Georgia State, and Idaho were better than our SoCon brethren (except GaSo). Idaho was actually pretty good.App91 wrote:I think the concern there is that we have seen 3 Horrible offenses in our 3 wins. I think what we saw in those three conference games, and in last nights GaSo game, was a really, really good defense shutting down some good offenses. I agree that none of those four teams had top 25 offenses. But, they were not all horrible either.
And, as to what happened to GaSo last night? App smacked down a pretty good team in their house.
To the App fans who were chanting "Whose house? Our house." Really? That was pretty harsh ... but I liked it. It could not have happened in a better place.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Scratching my head wondering what the hell some of you guys want. If we thoroughly shut down a conference foe they have no offense. If we Taylor throws a PIC every part of his mechanics are scrutinized. I believe that we just have a ferocious defense that is making some decent offenses look really bad. Taylor makes mistakes but he also wins games. Opinions and observations are great but it's almost like folks are looking for stuff to tear apart. Go Apps!!AppAlum1 wrote:3 Horrible offenses? Just as a little perspective Ga Sou was averaging 419 yds and 29 pts per game until last night. Yes they stunk it up but as a defensive player I think at least some of their sucking last night had a little bit to do with our D. But that's just my opinion.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Ga State, Idaho and LaLa and GUS are all bottom 6 SBC offenses, with GaSt being DFL. and Gus is best of the worst. and that mainly comes from the Sav. state game as well as facing league worst NMSU. I do think our D is good, but have not faced the top 3 O's on cour schedule. I agree our D is good, just cant have those bad games. We do seem to be getting better and we are going to need that!AppAlum1 wrote:3 Horrible offenses? I completely disagree. Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
GS has scored 31 points on a ranked Western Michigan team, 26 on Arkansas State, and 24 on Georgia Tech. Nobody has shut them down like we did on Thursday. It's true that their passing QB was injured, but the young Freshman they are breaking in has some potential. Our D played lights out against Tennessee and other than that first TD Run, we shut down the run against Miami. I think the pass coverage has come a long way since Akron.
The game with Troy should be a great one. They are a very good team. I still believe that, if both teams play their A game, App wins. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.
Great win against Georgia Southern! Go Apps!

We have always had trouble with a big O line (reference Miami) and we can not win against Troy unless we get pressure on their QB. Offensively we won't run much on the inside zone read but we should ne able to hit the corners and and Hopkins on the jet sweep will be big...imo

You had One Job segment on ESPN College Gameday lead off with the field goal muff snap scoop six . . . . no mention of the outcome of the game . . . all agreed that was on the snapper not the holder.
No press is bad press?
No press is bad press?
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”
