Apparently the team was talking about it yesterday before the game. They knew the fans wouldn't stick it out much past half time.

Parent's weekend is always a different game day experience.SpeedkingATL wrote:On a positive not, the band was much more engaged yesterday and the people playing the stadium music did a much better job of not interrupting our team when App's offense was on the field. But let's not forget, this was a sell-out! That's always a good thing.

Perhaps if the canned music was stopped, there would be more fan interaction. If there was more fan interaction, fewer would leave. Granted, the game was a blow-out.ASUchipman wrote:Does anyone know where the fire happened yesterday at Kidd Brewer Stadium? I never saw the fire trucks but there must have been one. Everyone poured out of the stadium at halftime like the place was on fire. This is the best defense I have ever seen at App. The team is winning and is in contention for a conference championship. How do the "fans" show their appreciation, they pour out of the stadium like water through a sieve. I'm sure all of the prospects sitting a few sections from us noticed the 3/4 empty stadium in the 4th quarter. Also to the angry midget in 111 who keeps yelling about the offense and who's calling the plays; we scored 35 points yesterday. You wouldn't know that because you left at halftime too. True fans stay whether we win or lose. Rant over.
I heard the App-State chant exactly once. Don't know nuthing bout angry midgets.

If you don't want fans leaving, we should probably prohibit the parents of students from coming to the game on parents weekend. How dare those assholes leave the game early!
Fans leaving early in blowouts has been going on since the late 90's and it's not going to change, especially on homecoming and parents weekend where you have the highest portion of casual fans attending. You want fans to stay the whole game? Start serving alcohol at the games til end of the 3rd quarter.

Some get so bent out of shape over this. Yes it sucks that people file out at halftime but it is entirely understandable. Most people, myself included, have to drive great distances to cheer on our mountaineers. This is not state, who also has a problem with getting people to come back in after halftime, where people can drive 10 min after a game and be back home. Most of our fans have AT A MINIMUM an hour drive to get back home. Or in my case you have a 3 hr. drive. That means for a 3:30 kick, even if you leave late third quarter you are getting home until 10:30-11. Sometimes its simply not feasible for everyone to sit and watch a blow out win until the final buzzer, even if we would like it to be. But you don't know how much they are contributing to the YC or how long they've had tickets. They may doing more for the program than you know.
Side bar, like the previous poster pointed two weeks ago the same people were complaining about attendance in general and now we had 28K + at a Texas State game where our opponent had 2 wins. Some people will never be happy.

Re: Fire at Kidd Brewer?
I thought the canned music was a bit more under control this weekend. I don't think there was ANY played during the first quarter at all and it was a blessed relief. Then all of a sudden it started again midway through the second. Look, its a good sign of where our program is that we can spend time complaining about things like canned music, cups and ice, etc. and not about our product on the field.
I still say we should NEVER pipe in the music when our team has the ball. EVER. And they did that less this weekend but still it happened a few times. The band needs to step up their game a bit too, though. It was great in the first qtr when there was no canned stuff and the band played their little hits, but they played the same thing over and over. In the past they had several standards that they would play (Ironman, etc).
I was listening to the Georgia game on my drive back home after the game and the announcers were blasting the canned music the Kentucky stadium was playing. Loudest they've ever heard and playing it while UGA was at the line, etc. It was really loud, you could hear it easily on the broadcast. The funniest thing was as GA won on a last second FG, right at the end of his excited call, he added "and now, Kentucky can take its scoreboard and its obnoxious canned music and stick them where the sun don't shine!"

I want to hear Bugler's Dream and the Imperial March. Those have always been my favorite. I don't remember hearing either on Saturday.
Re: Fire at Kidd Brewer?
Is Bugler's Dream aka the Olympic's song? If so, I heard it once for a kickoff Saturday (3rd quarter, perhaps).NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:I want to hear Bugler's Dream and the Imperial March. Those have always been my favorite. I don't remember hearing either on Saturday.

The subduedness was likely a product of it being Parents weekend.

IMO, it has been that way all year, save Miami. Ga St. was like a funeral in there, as was IdahoAppDawg wrote:Agreed on all points.SpeedkingATL wrote:On a positive not, the band was much more engaged yesterday and the people playing the stadium music did a much better job of not interrupting our team when App's offense was on the field.
