Re: Make App State's Student Section Great Again!
It was played on several kickoffs but not all. The student section did not point with the beat but instead held up hands with waving fingers. Whatever we do for kickoffs needs to be uniform and done by everyone in the stands.

Re: Make App State's Student Section Great Again!
I never heard it once. A lot of the people around me were commenting on that also. We had a ton of kickoffs yesterday, obviously, and it was not played. That and the lack of fireworks during the team's entrance was missed terribly. Come to think of it, the band has been pretty much increasingly marginalized lately. The canned music has taken away muck of their job during play, now no "Bugler's Dream" on kickoffs.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 11:01 amI was there and don't remember hearing it but then again my ears were ringing from the PA system.mountaineerman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2017 8:34 pmI'm pretty sure I heard buglers dream a couple times today? They're on their phones. The modern college student, particularly the modern female college student, is more concerned with getting their picture taken at an event than the actual event. They watch entire concerts on their phone screens as the experience passes them by.
I'm more concerned with the student tailgate though. The student section is packed and when we need to be loud they've been loud the past few seasons. They're just not getting to Raley Lot until like lunch time. A decade ago we were there in full swing by 10 for a 3:30 game.

I understood that chant to have a comma. That's a very important comma. I don't think our students were being that specific.

Re: Make App State's Student Section Great Again!
In full fairness, here's my take on yesterday's student section:
Yeah, they didn't get the APP>>>STATE chant down right, but then again, the STATE side didn't initiate, either. You can't really blame the students either, as the new speakers made it almost impossible to hear the other side doing anything. That's not anyone in particular's fault. It just is what it is. Additionally, you had 4000 new students in the stands yesterday. Of course they won't know the chants by heart, so the returning students are pulling more weight. This happens at every first game of the year.
The reason why there wasn't as much tailgating from students yesterday is because sorority recruitment is currently taking place, so none of the sorority women were there, meaning the fraternities had no reason to be out there, either. That won't be the case for the WF game. I expect to be a booming student crowd there at that game.
For the marching band, I don't know who is to blame. Does the stadium play more piped in music because the band director isn't initiating more performances during the game itself? Does the band director not initiate more performances because there is so much piped in music? I really don't know. I don't think the students are to blame on that end, though. They can only play when they're directed to play...

Re: Make App State's Student Section Great Again!
This article reeks of "Muh glory days."
The average student isn't going to make a spreadsheet with the names of every mother of a New Mexico State player. I'm not entirely sure those players would even hear it considering the visitor bench is on the opposite side of the field and we have a huge new sound system.
I am certain that suggesting you "dated" someone's mother last night is just as disrespectful as saying "You suck, asshole" and neither one should be coming from our student section.
Some realistic goals:
- Teach the alma mater
Nobody knows it anymore. Students only hear it at 6 games a year and graduation. The words are finally back on the videoboard but that isn't enough. Chapel-Hill grads all know Hark The Sound so it can obviously be done.
Incentivize staying until 0:00
Students who stay until 0:00 could be entered into a raffle of some kind each week. Perhaps give out tailgate spots or field passes.
Quiet on Offense
A simple scoreboard/ribbon board graphic would be effective in letting the crowd know to shut up when we have the ball.

Not playing Bugler's Dream every time we kickoff is inexcusable. That has been a tradition for 40+ years. I'm not against playing some music on the PA, but there are some aspects of our game day that shouldn't be touched.

Seemed to me like the first couple of series there wasn't much piped in music. I even mentiond it to my wife how mice it sounded between plays and then boom it started. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it.

We keep wanting to be like the big boys. Do the big boys blast all that canned stuff at you? Last reference would be GA and the answer is no.

1. Move the band and mic them.
2. Band needs to take ownership and dictate music
3. Return to playing the kickoff theme music and crowd points
4. Find some students to take ownership of cheers and timing
5. Coordinate that with the video board
6. Find a human Yosef with a long rifle
7. Put half of the cheerleaders in the stands.
8. Fireworks at team entrance AND after scores
9. Find hairy guy with the A shaved in his back.

I'm not opposed to purchasing a GA ticket to show these students how we used to get "lit". Have about 99 other people with me and we can get it rocking again.

Just a few facts on the band:
1. While in the stands the band is 100% at the mercy of the athletic marketing department.
2. The director is given a script (literally) that spells out exactly when and for how long it is allowed to play. This includes kick-offs (i.e. Bugler's Dream).
3. It has been this way for at least 10 years. The script became less band-friendly in the Sun Belt.
4. Every college band is dictated when to play, not just ours. It's up to the Marketing Director (not the band director) to determine playing time.
5. The band members and director would love to be right in the middle of the student section, not so far removed from the game that its impact in the stands is almost futile.

Re: Make App State's Student Section Great Again!
I want to see more touchdown "push ups." I only spotted two groups doing them on Saturday and they burned out once we started scoring in the 30's.
It's not that hard, it's a shitton (yes, actual unit of fun) of fun, and it gets everyone around you involved in cheering on the team.

Fellow MMB'ers. I've written DG before and it's time for us to write him again. Given the comments by the person above we need to change the narrrative and push our BOD. I will be writing as soon as I post this reply.

I was one of the few who didn't want to move them to those crappy seats in the end zone. Bring em back to the West Side.BODFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:21 amJust a few facts on the band:
