Re: Playoff attendance
someone please correct me if i am wrong, but I was under the impression that tickets scanned is the standard for fcs subdivision. anybody have any insight?appfanz wrote:I think one thing that needs to be considered is that all season tickets are counted during the regular season for attendance but they may not be all used during the plalyoffs. I, for one, have 4 season tickets but only bought 3 for last week's game. The people in front of me have 8 and only bought 4 because of prior obligations with some of their group. And I'm sure you have many corporate season tickets that weren't purchased for the playoffs.
But with the crowd last week I know our die hard fan base is growing. Where in the past we were lucky to get 10,000 we are now getting upwards of 17,000 for the early rounds. I'll take last week's crowd any day. But this may all be a moot point if, as David Jackson said at the end of his broadcast Saturday, we have played our last FCS playoff game.

I remember David Jackson announcing on one broadcast that the attendance was _ _, _ _ _ tickets sold. So I think we measure it based on tickets sold.

They have no business being there and will be run by 50. After next years BCS overhaul it will also never happen again.ASUPATCH wrote:Yeah just like that non AQ NIU. Well they do have business being there, they met the requirement. You're right that they'll probably get run. They will, however, have a bit of an excuse since their head coach will not be with them. That's a tough spot for them to be in. Florida State would run a bunch of teams by 50. Michigan should have run us by 50 and that is why I'll be pulling hard for the Huskies. That's why the games are played.

Re: Playoff attendance
Boise State didnt belong on the field with Oklahoma and we didnt belong on the field with Michigan either. But wait....thats why they play the games. NIU lost one game all year so yes they do have bussiness being there. They also have a stud of a QB that will give FSU fits. Just 4 years ago the almighty sec and almighty Alabama led by Saban at the time not only lost to Utah but got there you know whats handed to them.Appersrule wrote:They have no business being there and will be run by 50. No, the system is flawed. They shouldn't be in a BCS Bowl over a 2 loss Georgia or LSU team who would wipe the field with them or FSU. FSU lost to NC State, and State was mediocre this year. Can we please give up comparing everyone to Boise State, they are an exception to the rule and had multiple NFL players. Btw- without looking it up can anyone on here name a player from NIU?

QB Jordan Lynch as he is the record holder for the most Rushing yards in a season by a QB in NCAA history.

Read up on the kid he should have been in the Heisman race. There is good football played outside of the SEC. You may want to broden your horizons.

Re: Playoff attendance
Tell them to play an SEC school and we will see how good of football they play, this is a team that lost to a bad IOWA team, who finished almost last in the Big Ten. Thats why Johnny Manziels stats are so impressive. They came against SEC defenses. The SEC's 5th team (South Carolina) shut Tahj Boyd and Clemsons amazing offense down. Heck, Clemson struggled to beat Auburn.

Re: Playoff attendance
They lost by 1 point to an Iowa team that startes 4-2 before struggling. Auburn went to OT with a Sunbelt school. Is the SEC the stringest conference? Yes. Are they the end all be all and no one else plays good football? No. Ask mighty alabama if there is good football played in the WAC. Utah would certainly have something to say about it.Appersrule wrote:Tell them to play an SEC school and we will see how good of football they play, this is a team that lost to a bad IOWA team, who finished almost last in the Big Ten. Re: Playoff attendance
When Alabama becomes the SEC's 7th straight National Champion they could care less what happened against a WAC team in a bowl after they lost to Florida in the SEC title game and gave up on the 200(and whatever season).

Re: Playoff attendance
And it looks as if they are going to take a huge financial bath on their Orange Bowl trip. They had to purchase 17,000 Orange Bowl tickets. That is considered to be part of their payout, with the catch that they have to sell them all to keep the cash. They only averaged 15,000 in attendance this year, so their chances of selling 17,000 are slim. It's going to be nice exposure for them, but I wonder if they can financially survive all their good fortune.ASUPATCH wrote:Yeah just like that non AQ NIU. And those tickets range between 75 and 250 dollars each. And weren't some App fans complaining this year at the single game ticket prices?

Im sure a handful of alumni will make sure selling their allotment isnt an issue.appst89 wrote:And it looks as if they are going to take a huge financial bath on their Orange Bowl trip. Re: Playoff attendance
NIU is giving their students free tickets to the game. While they may take a financial bath, I guess they believe it is good for the school to be on such a big stage.appst89 wrote:And it looks as if they are going to take a huge financial bath on their Orange Bowl trip. Re: Playoff attendance
Here's another question, how many fans do you think App would bring to an Orange Bowl? Im guessing around 10,000. We wouldn't sell out our allotment either.

Not sure where you got those numbers from but Ill back my numbers up with evidence. You can get tickets to the Orange Bowl all day long for under 10$. Thats less than half the price of FCS playoff tickets. I know it doesn't support your arguement. But its factual.

I would bet my house we would surely bring more to Miami than we would to Frisco. I know it hurts your case to stay FCS but its true.Appersrule wrote:Here's another question, how many fans do you think App would bring to an Orange Bowl? Im guessing around 10,000. Re: Playoff attendance
But those are not the tickets the schools are forced to buy, and that is a big part of the problem. Fans of these schools are buying tickets on the Internet rather than through their school's ticket office and the school is taking a bath. Va. Tech lost several million dollars on its last BC$ bowl trip. VT probably has the financial wherewithal to withstand a hit like that. I'm not sure NIU does.ASUPATCH wrote:Appersrule wrote:And those tickets range between 75 and 250 dollars each. And weren't some App fans complaining this year at the single game ticket prices?
