I guess that's why playoff attendance has been so low...no one expects us to win.

(FTR-I was not in attendance for the game last weekend, but it was an excused absence.)
Give 'em hell!

A little more to do within a two hour drive of Boone than Missoula or Fargo...Plus 16 K for a home playoff game in a town of 200K is not a number I would scream about!

Not for me....I am there regardless!....but if the only game in town was a playoff football game in Fargo...I'd say we/they should have more than 16k.

Heck the day of the playoff game in Boone, there was a 5-K, and a parade, and we still had the largest crowd in a while.

Go APPS!

**And the organizers of the 5K needed a clue....for early arrivals the course held up traffic forever!
Go APPS!

That is very wishful thinking. If we get around .500 17k will be a nice crowd.

The only way we will draw 17k is if we have a Tuesday night game........... It will never happen on a Saturday...........

bcoach while your predicting the future, can you tell us what the FCS will look like in 10 years? If your crystal ball is like mine you'll understand why a move is necessary.

No F'in way, man.

Playing FBS opponents at home will make attendance skyrocket. People expect the transition to yield some .500 level seasons.

I really don't think we are capable of averaging less than 25,000 barring 3-4 seasons in a row of sub .500 seasons. People don't just come to App games to see a winning team, they come for this:

No argument for a year or two. Years 3 and 4 at around .500 and I think you are going to see well below that25,000. The good news is that if I am wrong about that I will be very happy

Here's my take on attendance in FBS:

We will have some games where the attendance is through the roof; if we can get Wake or Duke or ECU or maybe a Mississippi St. type $EC program to Boone, we will see as many as the stadium can hold.

We will maintain our current level of attendance against other opponents for a few years as long as we are playing on Saturday. With our fanbase being as widely dispersed as it is, we will see tremendous dropoff if we play a Tuesday or Wednesday game. We won't get more than 15,000-17,000 for those games, if we are lucky. If we start consistently losing, in FBS or FCS, we will see a significant dropoff in attendance.

I think it would take several poor seasons for our attendance to drop close to that level. I also believe we could consistently put a winning product on the field at the FBS level.

We had over-capacity crowds for every regular season home game after The Citadel put 52 on us. As much as we (myself included) like to complain about all the folks who come to tailgate and leave early, game day in Boone has become a big social event. People will show up for the party, even more so if we start putting recognizable names on the schedule.

Just for the record I am not talking about FBS. I think the same would happen in FCS, but again I hope I am wrong, or better yet I hope we will never know.

I agree. If we start putting a mediocre product on the field, attendance will certainly suffer after a couple years regardless of FCS/FBS. We have our die-hard core of 17K-18K that will be there come hell or high water. With an administration that is committed to football, I am not overly worried about having a long string of futility. As we've seen, sub-par performance will result in changes.
