People sure do forget that we have at least 1, if not 2 qbs who didn't get much playing time this season for one reason or another.
....and one had season ending knee surgery after just one real series of plays this season (Bryant). Barnes, well if is does not have better judgement on the field than he did off....nuff said IMO.

I think this might be our most needy position.

But one thing I got from the playoffs, on Friday and Saturday. Most of the teams playing and left did not have their "BEST" offensive player at QB. They were solid, made good decision, could run when necessary and were accurate.

I was thinking watching the EWU and SHSU QB's that a play first run second QB might be in our best interest!

So what was it that Barnes did that got him the boot? Was he dismissed from school, or just the team?

He is not off the team, just ineligible....and all I know is what the kids have said so that could be rumor....except that they all say the same thing!.....I'll just let him come back eligible and play and not make the same mistake again!

does anyone else think we need to recruit some guys that can get to the qb with some pressure. Have we sacked anybodyon third down since merrell and hunter? Seems like even the bad quarterbacks can stand back there and be great against us.

If you go strictly by the criteria Cobb outlined on 730 radio last week and the resumes of these guys Horton is the clear choice. I realize Scott is the sentimental frvorite but I eonder if he has the personality to be a head coach. We all know he can call plays and he is probably a good recruiter, but does he have what it takes to make the tough decisions personel wise. It is obvious Jones needs to go but will Scott put his former business partner on the street? I have watched Scott at alumni functions and he isn't the most outgoing guy in the room. He is not the type of person to walk up to a stranger, ask their name and how they are doing. Scott has been at the FCS level all but three of his years as a coach. Horton has been at the FBS level for 15 years and 6 of those in the toughest conference at the BCS level. He brings perspective from Air Force - probably knows how to stop that blasted triple option - Kansas State and Arkansas. If we can snare him it would be a steal for ASU. IMO it's a no brainer.

Can one of you explain to me what is wrong with Dale Jones as DC? Last year many on here were pleased with the effort given the injuries on that side of the ball. This year we have had numerous injuries which have forced guys into situations that they may not have been ready for. Why is this years results less tolerable?

I'm betting Satterfield will be announced tomorrow.

That NEEDS to happen. The sooner we get a new HC officially hired, the sooner we can start the new era and get some of this unpleasantness behind us. Also for the recruiting aspect, this does not need dragging out.

I'd rather it drag out and get the right guy than Cobb hire quickly and get a Capel.

Satterfield is NO Capel! How can you even make that comparison?

We need you on the selection committee! I really like your logic. I do agree, however, that Satterfield is the likely choice.

I also expect that Satterfield is the likely choice. However, my vote would go to Horton based on his experience, character and ASU ties. Of course, I don't have a vote!

If it's down to Satterfield and Horton, I gotta go with the experience of Horton--with a big pay raise to keep Satterfield as OC.

If the info posted is correct, Galloway received an interview because of his wife's and in-laws' CLOSE ties to ASU and his status as a minority candidate. O'Cain because of his close ties to Cobb. Shoop because someone like John Swofford went to bat for him.

Like hapapp said, it's a no-brainer!

Well, you guys can just move on from the Horton pick. Football Scoop is reporting he has been retained at Arkansas. Guess he was just trying to have a backup plan in case he was sent packing. Which makes me wonder how long he would have hung around here.

Horton has wanted this job for 10 years. If he's offered, it could get real interesting to see it he wants small town life and northwestern NC or northwestern AK. :?:

1a. Satterfield
1b. Horton
3. Galloway
4. O'Cain
5. Shoop

Just because Horton is being retained doesn't mean he wouldn't leave if given the head coaching job. Just means he's guaranteed a job.

Qualifications: 1. Thick skin... 2. The ability to turn his head 180 degrees and watch his own back
3. Somebody who understands pride only comes in a bottle or spray can... 4. Somebody who has an iron arrse and can therefore withstand the kick .... OK OK enough already this should be sent to the "collective" thread. TRUTH IS NOT BLIND, THIS THREAD IS PRETTY MUCH USELESS... SS IS THE HC. THE REST IS JUST MAGIC MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL ... LEGAL STUFF TO MAKE PEOPLE THINK THERE REALLY IS AND OPENING. NO OPENING. NEW COACH IS SCOTT SATTERFIELD PERIOD END OF STORY.

I don't think anyone would/will be surprised if Scott is named the HC. I just stated my preference. However, I will not be disappointed if Scott is given the job. I would just prefer Horton.
