I know penalties killed some drives for us and got some big plays called back, but I feel like we weren’t aggressive enough on the second half. The first 2-3 offensive possessions of the second half were flat.
I know our defense is solid and obviously it worked out, but playing conservatively with a small lead and assuming your defense will pick up the slack is dangerous. If Troy had scored once more, the momentum shift would have been big and put a lot of pressure on us.
I would like to see us play to win instead of playing to outlast .
I’m not saying our coaches suck or I know more than them and again, it obviously worked out this time, but I would hate to lose a game we were in control of because we took our foot off the gas and assume our defense can make stops all night

Re: Milking The Clock
Satt is a good play caller. We wanted to score more but Troy is no pushover. We weren't milking the clock. I agree we could have let the play clock run down to single digits on a few plays before snapping the ball in the 4th quarter. But...When you put up 21 unanswered points in the first half on a 9-2 team you can expect that team is going to make some significant changes on defense to get back in the game...When Vic Johnson, your best pass blocker is unable to go at LT (blind side) after halftime...When we had to move o-line players around to cover for Vic...When we had more unforeseen penalties than normal...When Troy was like 33-0 if they have a lead going into the 4th quarter....There was no way we were going to call plays that risk a turnover from a QB sack or a pick 6 on a 50/50 deep ball... Given how our D was playing...Turnovers were the only, I mean only way, Troy was going to get back in the game. Satt coached well and our offense still moved the ball and the Defense was lights out for 4 quarters. We got the Dub....That is all that matters... Let's focus on UL. I'm more concerned about their running attack on a rainy day.The Rock wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 1:13 pmI know penalties killed some drives for us and got some big plays called back, but I feel like we weren’t aggressive enough on the second half. Re: Milking The Clock
I wasn’t taking anything away from Troy, I knew they were going to make adjustments and clamp down defensively, and I also wasn’t suggesting we throw bombs all second half; but with Johnson being out and the reconfigured line probably not run blocking as well as usual, I think opening with a run up the middle every series didn’t help us get out of our own way. Mixing in a little misdirection or reverse, or a short throw over the middle to a TE or slot for a 4-5 yard gain may have kept them from stacking the box and completely shutting us down like they did in the 3rd quarter.
It was only a 10 point lead, us throwing a pick 6 wasn’t the only way to get them back in the game.
Any score changes the way Troy approaches the last couple drives they had.
Even with as good as our defense has been playing and was playing that night doesn’t mean they can’t give up a score to a really good team

I think Vic Johnson's absence on the left side had a lot to do with how conservative we got in our play calling.
