I think Mack Brown is going to be a better hire for UNC than most people think.
Better than most people think could still be not very good.

The thing about the Mack Brown hire is that it was made to stabilize the program. He wasn't hired specifically to take UNC to a National Championship game but rather to rework the foundation of the program and create a culture that doesn't exist there now.

The problem with the App job is there is very little room for improvement and a long way to go down. The pro is the talent is all there to at least maintain the success.

ECU on the other hand if they have a 6 win season the guy will be hailed as a miracle worker. So that coaching hire could end up looking like an A+ while App barely makes a bowl game and it looks like an F-.
There is a lot of room for improvement. Winning the OT games against P5 teams, showing well at home. Improving recruiting, raising the profile of the program, making NY6 to complete the Boise State re-enactment. If 10-2 is good enough for you, which I believe it is the sign of a good season for most, then there isn't much to improve upon. However I think Drink has higher goals than that. The Sun Belt has the statistics to back being the 3rd G5 conference and one that will be competing with the MWC on a regular basis now.

Part of me hopes that with Drink, DG will have an in with Boise State and Harsin to get a home and home scheduled.

But even most ECU people wouldn't consider a 6 win season a sign of a miracle. A 6 win season for most would still be considered a disappointment actually because the talent is there to compete for the AAC title now. It has been. Montgomery was just that bad of a coach; a lot worse than people make it seem. Excuses were made for him and blame laid on Ruff but most of it simply isn't true.

Mac Brown was hired to stop players from kicking the opponent when they get into a fight. They kicked them. I was embarrassed for the Heels when they did that to State players, and I hate the heels. Hate them.
