Coach Drink (Head coach) was satisfied with the win but (OC) wasn't really pleased with the offensive performance. Anyone who watched the game understands why. Zac definitely took a while to get going....was off in the first quarter. I was wondering whether an 11:00 am kick-off and the heavy rain before the game had really messed up with the warm-up routines. Just a theory but it makes sense to me. He definitely looked sharper as the game progressed.

The USA Defense was definitely keying on DE and made it hard for him to get much production, but this is what happens to teams that do that. We're not one dimensional....another weapon will burn you. I loved seeing Williams, Anderson and Virgil getting some big plays.

Georgia Southern played another monsoon game. I watched some of it but it is really hard to tell anything from a game like that. I don't think they are a real risk this year unless we help them....a lot! NMSU is a bad team that relies on the passing game which was taken away by the rain.

NMSU needs to rely on their opponent's bus breaking down and having to forfeit the game because they can't get there. That or schedule a game against New Mexico High School - they might, just might pull off the upset.

Coach speaks often of his Id and Ego on his shoulders. How long before Coach gives up OC so his conscience isn't torn in that way? Being HC at this level of CFB is a tough job. There will come a time when he will have to choose. When he leaves us it might just be for an OC job at a P5 and not be HC. I can see this stepping stone in his career really helping decide what he truly loves. I hope its at least three years before he moves on (unless we crumble before then, but that has virtually no chance of happening with our culture), but if he finds he is happy with only OC responsibilities he might even make the jump to the NFL for the money.

I know it seemed like the offense sucked... but 30 points and 481 yards of O and no turnovers..... I’ll take suckege any Saturday.
Agreed. You can’t win every game going away. It’s like coach said, “a lot of teams lost today”.

I agree. Yesterday was just crappy- the weather, start time, empty stadium, playing down to the opponent. It was one of those games where you still knew we would win easily but it looked off. The defense was unbelievable in their dominance. The last three games we give up 7/7 and 3.

ULL is a much better team than USA though. We moved the ball good enough yesterday , just couldn’t convert that into TDS

Add that we faltered on some third and short conversions.

Coach Drink might name an OC at some point. He might not. I think many of us were concerned that a first year coach was doing double duty, but he does seem to be getting it done. His candor in press conferences isn't really something I would turn against time, not that I'm implying that's your intent. I don't think there is really any question about his true love. Coach Drink likes being head coach and he is a good one. I don't see him leaving for an OC position. He's been there and done that. There is a very real consideration though...BUDGET. Drink was given a total of $1,350,000 to hire his staff and he wanted to bring in experience on D. He also hired a dedicated special teams coach, a move which seems to be paying dividends. If he decides to name an OC, we will have to come up with some more budget money.

I am not sure he lets go of being OC for some time, if ever. Remember, he was brought up in the Gus Malzahn coaching tree and Gus himself just reclaimed the OC job this year and admits it was a mistake to ever relinquish it. He seems to really like the play calling aspect of it and so far I have no complaints.

If he hires an OC then he has to eliminate the ST Coach. Correct?

He just came to us from being a OC at a P5, why would he go right back to that?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!! Pure and simple. We can't pay him as HC what he can make as OC at some schools. There is a point where setting your family up for life trumps a title.

South Alabama had 139 total yards, 113 of those were on two drives that ended with a blocked field goal and their only 3 points. The other 12 drives got them 26 yards or just over 2 yards per drive.

Our D-linewalk-ons and former walk-ons progress have made all the difference. I love how hard these guys work.

Does Coach seem slightly bored at some of the questions or does he seem to know what they are going to ask? He looks away as they start a question.
I figure a) he's not happy with offensive performance; b) the weather was miserable; c) he wants to get the heck out of dodge and back to Boone and that new baby girl!
And I'll add that he looks tired. Hope he can get some rest.

The South Allie O looked awful , as in really bad. I hope that was due to us more than them. We were not on our game offensively.Drink was frustrated and irritated due to that as I read him.

Defense ruled the game. Offensively we were slow to start, but things fell into place. Wish we could have put up more against USA. As another user stated, I would find it hard to get hype in front of a crowd of 500.
