I'm with you. Say we lose by double digits to Miami, which I sadly expect, we should be in good position when it matters as long as ULL, Marshall, and CCU play strong. We would be ranked at 5-1 or 6-1. It is so early though that we just need to go 1-0 each week and we will definitely be where we want to be.t4pizza wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 11:04 amI don't think we deserve a ranking at this point in the season and probably won't until we continue to win and beat Marshall, Louisiana and Coastal. After that we would be 6-1 at worst and perhaps 7-0 with some good wins on the resume. That belief is based on the fact that those 3 teams should all win their games from now until they play us.

Simply put, if we lose this weekend by 14-20 then we don't deserve to be in the top 25 and probably should not later in the season short of Miami cleaning everybody's clock for the remainder of their schedule. A 20 point loss to #24 would just be bad any way you slice it.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 12:33 pmI'm with you on all of this and honestly I don't think we deserve any votes unless we beat Miami. I expect to lose by 14-20 this weekend to Miami but wins over Marshall, ULL, and CCU (assuming they keep winning) will help us get in there closer to when it matters. Nobody remembers who was ranked in September. I just hope the league does well in OOC play and ECU, Miami, and Marshall do well in their leagues to give those games more credibility for us.moonshine wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 10:49 amSome voters should lose their "right to vote" as there is no rational explanation for how some voted. I have no problem with App getting a single vote but it is an issue when App has the same amount of votes as Arizona who is on a 13 game losing streak and has not registered a W since 2019. Obviously the voter meant the Sun Devils but still, voting is not that difficult.
The USCar guy is a clown. Under no circumstance should Wisconsin be ahead of Penn St. after the Nittany Lions beat the Badgers. To top it off, Wisconsin was ranked 12th and he put them at 10th this week. Same for UNC ahead of VT which was done by multiple voters. I understand once there is a "body of work" to go off of but not after week 1. If you lose in week 1, you should not be ahead of the team that just beat you.
CCU got a nice, albeit undeserved, bump up in the polls after mauling el Cid but good for the Chants and the SBC. As a conference, we need to keep teams in the top 25. There doesn't appear to be a lot of opportunity for App to creep in to the top 25 after this weekend, even with a win against the U as there are only 2 top 25 match-ups this week: #12 Oregon v #3 tOSU and #10 Iowa v #9 Iowa St. It's doubtful a loss by any of the 4 will result in them dropping from the top 25.
Removing #22 Miami, I don't see anyone ranked #17 - #25 losing sans maybe #21 Utah to BYU but if that happens, BYU would likely replace them in the poll. With that said, if App were to win this weekend, fans should not feel slighted next week if App isn't ranked without some wild upsets. I'd prefer App continue flying under the radar for a couple of more weeks.
We should all be Pirate and Panthers fans this weekend as they take on USCar/UNC-ch respectively. The SBC needs CCU to keep putting Rock Chalk Jayhawk in their place, GS needs to find their footing against FAU and big time game for the conference is stAte v Memphis Saturday night.
I'm definitely pulling for ECU to beat South Carolina. I hope they win by 14+ so it is not in doubt.

Ranking will come if it comes. Wont change any bowl opportunities unless we go undefeated and play several ranked opponents. Beat Miami!

If they are truly #24 then yes I agree but my assumption is that Alabama would destroy anyone they play and Miami is actually a top 15 team. A big reason I fear we lose by double digits for sure is the fact that they are coming off a bad loss to the best team and should be very mad. You never want to face a really good team when they are mad. I think Miami comes in to our game very mad.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 1:44 pmSimply put, if we lose this weekend by 14-20 then we don't deserve to be in the top 25 and probably should not later in the season short of Miami cleaning everybody's clock for the remainder of their schedule. I expect Miami to win 10 games this year so if our only loss is a 17 point loss to a top 15 team then I think we would definitely deserve to be in the 20-25 range. I would say this. If Miami struggles heavily with us then either they aren't that good or we are the real deal.

Re: Week 2 AP Rankings- Keep the Chip
Exactly. The debate on whether it is more important to be 23 or 15 does not matter unless we go undefeated and get help from a good season by Miami, ULL, CCU, and even Marshall if we want a shot at a NY6. The good news is that if that happens we have a great shot. It does not matter if we don't win this weekend though and if we just finish the year 23 or 22 after a Miami loss it won't matter. The only thing that would matter is if we finish top 25 for recruiting and marketing purposes.

We are one game into the season.
If we look back at the end of the season, having won the conference and a bowl game, none of this will even matter.
